Fish feeding provides data for discussion of theoretical aspects serving purposes as the basic knowledge of the biology of a species by understanding the trophic organization in each environment. The objective was to analyze the food composition and morphology associated with the eating habits of Trachelyopterus galeatus (Linnaeus, 1766) and evaluates the dietary changes over time. The collections of individuals took place on a quarterly basis, during the months of February, May, August and November 2013, through gillnets with different meshes distributed in eight points in the Santa Cruz reservoir and five points in the Umari reservoir, both located in the Rio Grande do Norte. From the items identified in diets were obtained the frequencies of occurrence and volumetric, combined in the calculation of Alimentary Index (IAi). The volumes of the items were ordered in NMDS and their differences tested by PERMANOVA. The contribution of each food item and differences between reservoirs was assessed by SIMPER analysis. The analysis of stomach contents allowed the classification of the species as carnivorous, noting there are significant temporal changes in the species diet, with the morphological characteristics according to the consumption of food items.","PeriodicalId":56300,"journal":{"name":"Iheringia Serie Zoologia","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2017-11-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72787741","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"生物学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A total of 50 Myrmecophaga tridactyla and 178 of Tamandua tetradactyla skulls were analyzed in relation to 18 skull dimensions. The skulls were grouped into three level of suture closure: none suture closured (level 0), many sutures closured (level 1) and all the sutures closured (level 2). The results indicated that among the 18 variables measured, 17 showed significant differences (p ≤ 0.01) between immature and sub-adults skulls of T. tetradactyla ; as well as between immature and sub-adult, besides immature and adult skulls of M. tridactyla . Myrmecophaga tridactyla sub-adults and adults had no significant difference among any of the 18 dimensions. The foramen magnum height in both species showed no significant difference (p > 0.05) among any of sutures categories. In principle, suture closure level and cranial dimensions are important to estimate age group for both species of anteaters, and both T. tetradactyla and M. tridactyla immature individuals have the foramen magnum height similar to adult animals.","PeriodicalId":56300,"journal":{"name":"Iheringia Serie Zoologia","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2017-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88614427","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"生物学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Considerando Lontra longicaudis (Olfers, 1818) informacoes publicadas nao foram encontradas. Entao, o presente estudo objetivou determinar se os deslizamentos de terra ocorridos em marco de 2011 em parte das montanhas da Serra da Prata (Parana, Brasil) afetaram de alguma forma a ocorrencia da Lontra Neotropical. Com esse proposito, a area estudada compreendeu um rio afetado (Rio Santa Cruz - RSC) da face leste dessa serra que foi comparado com outro nao afetado (Rio das Pombas - RP), localizado na mesma face e com caracteristicas semelhantes as originais do RSC. A area de estudo esta situada no parque nacional de Saint-Hilaire/Lange (PNSHL). Foram realizadas sete campanhas a partir do limite altitudinal do PNSHL (60 m s.n.m) para montante entre 2012 e 2013. As campanhas consistiram de busca ativa por vestigios (fezes, pegadas, arranhados) e tocas de lontras ao longo de 3 km de margens. Registros de outros mamiferos tambem foram observados. Cada evidencia foi anotada em caderneta de campo, fotografada e georreferenciada. As tocas foram monitoradas ao longo das campanhas. Considerando as lontras, foram registrados 113 vestigios (11 arranhados, 19 pegadas e 83 fezes) e 17 tocas no rio nao afetado (RP); e o rio afetado (RSC) apresentou apenas quatro vestigios (tres pegadas, uma amostra fecal) e uma toca. Registros de outros mamiferos denotaram a presenca de 9 taxons no RP e 14 taxons no RSC. As diferencas conspicuas entre a quantidade de vestigios da presenca das lontras mostram que o desastre natural afetou severamente a populacao de lontras do RSC e mesmo dois anos apos os desastres as lontras retornaram apenas discretamente ao rio afetado. Por outro lado, outras especies de mamiferos como Cuniculus paca (Linnaeus, 1758), reocuparam as margens abundantemente.","PeriodicalId":56300,"journal":{"name":"Iheringia Serie Zoologia","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2017-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80539833","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"生物学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A predominance of binucleated cells in D1 and D2 and mononucleated in D3 was observed, with bulky and polyploidy nuclei. ATPase activity was detected, specifically, in euchromatin and nucleolus, where this enzyme probably acts in the transcription process. ATPase reaction was also evidenced in the nuclear membrane, which was associated with nuclear-cytoplasmatic transport. These characteristics indicate a high metabolism and protein synthesis, which must be essential to saliva production and in maintaining the hematophagy of triatomines.","PeriodicalId":56300,"journal":{"name":"Iheringia Serie Zoologia","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2017-10-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74257042","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"生物学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
