However, few studies address the planting system of the species, especially its spatial arrangement. Thus, this study proposes to evaluate chia cultivation under different spatial arrangements, aiming at its agronomic performance. The experimental design was randomized in blocks in a 3×2 factorial scheme, with three inter-row spacings (0.30, 0.45, and 0.60 m), two plant densities per linear meter (7.5 and 15 plants m−1), and four replications. Plant height, stem diameter, leaf area index, dry matter, chlorophyll index, leaf nitrogen content, panicle size, harvest index, and yield were evaluated. The evaluated spatial arrangements did not influence plant height, stem diameter, dry matter, leaf nitrogen content, panicle size, and harvest index. However, the spatial arrangement with the narrowest spacing and the highest population density was more suitable for obtaining a higher leaf area index and yield, with values of 5.96 and 2,507.44 kg ha−1, respectively. Therefore, a higher leaf area index and chia seed yield are obtained with an inter-row of 0.30 m and a population density of 15 plants m−1, that is, 500 thousand plants ha−1.","PeriodicalId":55957,"journal":{"name":"Revista de Agricultura Neotropical","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2022-10-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43066781","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of this study was to improve the techniques and methods of cultivating onions using new generation preparations against the background of N180P60K60 in a drip irrigation method. To achieve the objective of this study, field surveys, observations and measurements were carried out using generally accepted methods. The experimental data obtained from the studies were processed using analysis of variance in Excel, which is part of the Microsoft Office installation package. Field experience included both background application of mineral fertilizers, as well as integrated nutrition of plants with Aminofol Plus and Novosil bulb onion growth stimulants and its biological protection with drugs Gaitang, KE, Akzifor, KE and with Monarch, VDG preparations. According to the results of tests carried out in the 3rd soil-climatic zone, they positively influenced the growth processes and yield of the cultivated crop. The use of this scheme gave a significant increase in the number of commercial bulbs and the weight of commercial bulbs relative to the control version, which significantly affected the yield, which was 121.8 tons/ha (commercial yield). Based on the results of the obtained experimental data, the following was identified, the difference in yield is due to the effect of drugs that have a positive effect on the variety and hybrid of onions, which are under study.","PeriodicalId":55957,"journal":{"name":"Revista de Agricultura Neotropical","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2022-10-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41593008","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study was carried out in Eldorado, MS, in a reference area of Native Forest (NF) and three managed areas: Permanent Pasture (PP), Direct Sowing b(DS), and an area of Private Natural Heritage Reserve (PNHR) in the process of natural regeneration. Soil samples from the 0.0-0.05, 0.05-0.10, and 0.10-0.20 m layers were collected to assess soil density (Sd), TOC contents, with subsequent calculations of the stratification index (SI), carbon stock (StockC), and variation of the total organic carbon stock (∆StockC), in addition to the determination of daily emission and calculation of total C-CO2 accumulation. The NF area had the highest levels and stocks of TOC, reaching 16.42 g kg-1 and 20.90 Mg ha-1, respectively. On the other hand, the PP and PNHR areas had the lowest content and StockC. The areas of PP, DS, PNHR, and NF presented SI values of 1.08, 1.13, 1.32, and 1.61, respectively. The NF area showed higher peaks and a higher total accumulation of C-CO2, inferring the highest biological activity in this area. By multivariate analysis, none of the managed areas was close to the NF in quality. The worst results considering the evaluated attributes were observed in the areas of PP and PNHR due to the stage of degradation of these areas as a result of exploration and land use history.","PeriodicalId":55957,"journal":{"name":"Revista de Agricultura Neotropical","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2022-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49362087","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This crop has great economic importance in Brazil, especially in the North and Southeast regions. However, the variability in quality between cultivars is high. The objective of this study was to characterize black pepper from northeastern Pará available on the market and obtain an overview of its quality parameters. A total of 23 samples from black pepper cultivars/clones were evaluated for impurities and foreign matter, empty grains, density, moisture and ether extract, as established by Brazilian legislation. Additionally, the contents of total ash, protein, crude fiber and piperine were determined. Among the samples, one was outside the standard for density. The moisture contents were below the maximum limit required by the legislation, demonstrating that the drying and storage of the grains were adequate. Regarding the ether extract, 52% of the samples did not meet the commercialization standards. Concerning piperine, the Equador and Panny clones had levels greater than 5%. It was found that the nutritional composition of black pepper is influenced by the technological level of the production system. In summary, black pepper produced in northeastern Pará has variable quality.","PeriodicalId":55957,"journal":{"name":"Revista de Agricultura Neotropical","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2022-09-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47441099","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Brassinosteroids, including 24-epibrassinolide (EBL), have multiple actions in essential processes in plants. Thus, this research's objective was to evaluate the effects of EBL on tomato seeds' physiological conditioning on germination, growth, and production of dry seedling mass under salinity conditions. The experiment was carried out in a 2x5 factorial scheme, as follows: two concentrations of EBL (0 and 10-6 M) and five levels of salinity (0.5 control; 1.5; 3.0; 4.5 and 6.0 dS m-1), consisting of ten treatments, with four replications of 50 seeds. In isolation, the salt stress reduced the percentage of germination and germination speed index from four to 14 days, besides all the plants' growth traits. In turn, the EBL increased the percentage of germination, germination speed index, seedling length, and radicle dry matter. The application of 10-6 M of EBL in seed immersion no effect on the seed germination of IPA 6 tomato cultivar under salt stress but increases the root length and the dry matter of the seedlings.","PeriodicalId":55957,"journal":{"name":"Revista de Agricultura Neotropical","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2022-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43407493","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The use of techniques and resources that make production possible under unfavorable conditions can be decisive for agriculture. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the isolated and joint effects of liming and thiamine application on the development of bell pepper plants. The treatments consisted of three different soil base saturation (36, 60, and 80%), combined with foliar application of thiamine (with and without) at a concentration of 100 mg L-1. It was found that thiamine mitigates the effects of low base saturation on the physiological traits of bell pepper plants. The increments related to the water use efficiency and instantaneous carboxylation efficiency allowed greater development of plants treated with thiamine. In addition, the application of thiamine is advantageous in cases where planting is carried out under conditions of low base saturation, followed by an adequate supply of nutrients or systems in which there is a partial or total correction of the soil chemical characteristics, promoting the development of plants and increased physiological activity.","PeriodicalId":55957,"journal":{"name":"Revista de Agricultura Neotropical","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2022-09-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45665809","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Tests were carried out under field conditions using the Avenger hybrid. The experimental design adopted was randomized blocks with four treatments and four replications per treatment. Four spacings between rows were tested: 0.6 m, 0.7 m, 0.8 m, and 1.0 m. The spacing between plants in the rows was 0.6 m in all treatments. The number of leaves (NL), plant height (PHT), fresh leaf mass (FLM), stem fresh mass (SFM), inflorescence fresh mass (IFM), inflorescence longitudinal diameter (ILD), and estimated yield (YLD) were evaluated. Data were submitted to analysis of variance (ANOVA) and regression analysis (p<0.05). Spacing variations did not influence PHT and SFM. There was a linear increase in NL and FLM according to the increase in the spacing between rows. A quadratic effect of spacing was observed on ILD, IFM, and YLD. The spacing between the rows of 0.85 m ensured greater yield (6.97 Mg ha-1) and the production of inflorescences with characteristics compatible with those required by the consumer market (ILD = 9.83 cm; MFI = 347.15 g). It is concluded that the production of single-head broccoli under the conditions of Seropédica-RJ is possible, and the population density influences the development and yield of plants.","PeriodicalId":55957,"journal":{"name":"Revista de Agricultura Neotropical","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2022-09-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41843499","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The characterization of plant species contained in the collections has been carried out with the help of tables of botanical, morphological, and agronomic descriptors, which are mainly used without parameters referring to their effective contribution to variability, causing an increase in time and labor in the characterization of plants. This study aimed to evaluate the relative importance of the morphoagronomic traits in 85 low-growing tomato accessions from the collection of the Federal University of Goiás and estimate the descriptors that most help in the dissimilarity of the accessions and thus remove the redundant descriptors. The experimental design consisted of three complete randomized blocks, 85 plots (each plot corresponding to a different accession), and 12 plants per plot. The evaluations used adapted morphological descriptors described in the MAPA guidelines for distinguishability, homogeneity, and stability trials. 56.4% of the selected morphoagronomic descriptors are essential in the characterization study since they significantly contribute to the discrimination of genetic divergence between low-growing tomato accessions. Discarding 43.6% of the descriptors does not cause loss of information, reduces costs, and streamlines the management of the classification of the collection.","PeriodicalId":55957,"journal":{"name":"Revista de Agricultura Neotropical","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2022-08-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46550153","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
