An unknown and very rare individual variation is presented for the first time in Cicadetta montana (Scopoli, 1772). The habitus differs from the typical form of the species by the white coloring of several anatomical parts which are mainly little sclerified and usually tinged with orange. If the compound eyes keep their usual brownish coloring, the ocelli are completely white. The comparison between two aberrant mature specimens with specimens of the typical form was made from cicadas collected in the department of Haute-Savoie (France). The degree of maturity of the aberrant specimens was evaluated, in order to remove the doubt on the suspicion of an incomplete coloration such as it exists in freshly emerged individuals. To do this, the complete observation of the chromatogenesis of two specimens was carried out in their natural environment. An approach to chromatic aberrations in cicadas is delivered and an explanation of this phenomenon is proposed in the light of scientific data available in the literature.","PeriodicalId":55332,"journal":{"name":"Bulletin De La Societe Mathematique De France","volume":"154 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77694460","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"数学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The arthropods of Madagascar are among the most poorly known animal groups on the island. The principal objective of this study was to determine the diversity of this group at three different localities in lowland dry forests of western Madagascar. The three sites, all inventoried during the dry season in 2017, include: the Ankarafantsika National Park (16°18’S, annual rainfall: 867 mm) in the northwest; the forest of the Centre National de Formation, d’Études et de Recherches en Environnement et Forestier (CNFEREF) at Kirindy (20°04’S, annual rainfall: 555 mm) in the central west; and the Tsimanampesotse National Park (24°01’S, annual rainfall: 334 mm) in the extreme southwest. Malaise and pit-fall traps were used to capture arthropods and 24 orders belonging to 133 families were identified. The community at Ankarafantsika was the most diverse with 19 orders and 89 families with a more balanced taxonomic representation, while Tsimanampesotse had 18 orders and 69 families and Kirindy CNFEREF had 17 orders and 70 families. Calculated similarity between the different sites at the family level was relatively high, while that at the order level relatively low even given a certain level of homogeneity was noted between the three localities. The composition of arthropods in the dry forests of Madagascar varies according to local conditions, which include bioclimatic factors, and the characteristics of the vegetation at the three localities.","PeriodicalId":55332,"journal":{"name":"Bulletin De La Societe Mathematique De France","volume":"15 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81299644","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"数学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Rhithrogena delphinensis, described originally on the basis of four larvae from the Western Alps, south of the Arves Massif and from the northern flank of the Ecrins Massif, had not been captured again since 1986. Here, we report the discovery of a new population from river Arvan, whose drainage basin is located between the Grandes Rousses Massif and the northern flank of the Arves Massif. This newly discovered population seems abundant in numbers, and reveals the particular ecological requirements of the species as well as its dependence on glacier fed or nival streams. The morphological characteristics of the larvae are described in detail, and illustrated by photographs. The variability of some of the proposed identification criteria is discussed, and a key to the identification of the Rhithrogena species from the alpestris group of the Western Alps, to which R. delphinensis belongs, is provided. Finally, a portion of 658 base pairs of the COI gene of R. delphinensis is sequenced for the first time and compared to already existing data on the alpestris group in the Western Alps.","PeriodicalId":55332,"journal":{"name":"Bulletin De La Societe Mathematique De France","volume":"21 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2021-12-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78109937","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"数学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
