Often the damping of these resonating systems cannot be defined in the same simplified way as the other parameters due to the complexity of the physical effects. The purpose of this paper is to develop a mathematically stable approach for damping resonances in nonlinear ODE systems. Design/methodology/approach Modifying the original ODE using the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of a linearized state leads to satisfying results. Findings An iterative approach is presented, how to modify the original ODE, to achieve a well-damped solution. Practical implications The method can be applied for every physical resonating system, where the model complexity prevents the determination of the damping. Originality/value The iterative algorithm to modify the original ODE is novel. It can be used on different fields of the physics, where a second-order ODE is describing the problem, which has only measured or empirical damping.","PeriodicalId":55233,"journal":{"name":"Compel-The International Journal for Computation and Mathematics in Electrical and Electronic Engineering","volume":"143 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135476836","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper aims to overcome the need to use a very small time step when high frequencies are present. High-frequency signals abound in communication circuits when modulated signals are involved. Design/methodology/approach The method involves an asymptotic expansion of the solution and each term in the expansion can be determined either from NDDE without oscillatory inputs or recursive equations. Such an approach leads to an efficient algorithm with a performance that improves as the input frequency increases. Findings An example shall indicate the salient features of the method. Its improved performance shall be shown when the input frequency increases. The example is chosen as it is similar to that in literature concerned with partial element equivalent circuit (PEEC) circuits (Bellen et al. , 1999). Its structure shall also be shown to enable insights into the behaviour of the system governed by the differential equation. Originality/value The method is novel in its application to NDDE as arises in engineering applications such as those involving PEEC circuits. In addition, the focus of the method is on a technique suitable for high-frequency signals.","PeriodicalId":55233,"journal":{"name":"Compel-The International Journal for Computation and Mathematics in Electrical and Electronic Engineering","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135354032","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Design/methodology/approach Proportional integral (PI) plus PI controller and the proposed PDF plus PDFF controller are designed, stability analysis is performed using the extended root locus method, and the effect of the damping coefficient is also extensively studied to validate the robustness of the proposed controller. Findings When compared to a cascaded PI plus PI controller, the proposed control approach has a much shorter settling time for the entire system and a 50% reduction in overshoot in stator current under extensive variations in speed with load disturbance. Originality/value The proposed controller is programmed into an FPGA Altera Cyclone II and applied to a 1.5 kW laboratory prototype PMSM drive. In those apparatus, reduction of core losses is achieved by using a multipart open-type core that is created by merging a larger number of leaner cores. Design/methodology/approach 3D FEM approach for calculation of eddy current losses in open-type cores based on a weak AλA formulation is presented. Method in which redundant degrees of freedom are eliminated is shown. This enables faster convergence of the simulation. The results are benchmarked using simulations with standard AVA formulation. Findings Results using weak AλA formulation with elimination of redundant degrees of freedom are in agreement with both simulation using only weak AλA formulation and with simulation based on AVA formulation. Research limitations/implications The presented methodology is valid in linear cases, whereas the nonlinear case will be part of future work. Practical implications Presented procedure can be used for the optimization when designing the open-type core of apparatus like power voltage transformers. Originality/value The presented method is specifically adapted for calculating eddy currents in the open-type core. The method is based on a weak formulation for the magnetic vector potential A and the current vector potential λ , incorporating numerical homogenization and a straightforward elimination of redundant degrees of freedom, resulting in faster convergence of the simulation.","PeriodicalId":55233,"journal":{"name":"Compel-The International Journal for Computation and Mathematics in Electrical and Electronic Engineering","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134990438","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most machine control strategies require parameter values, and some circumstances in the industrial sector only require offline identification. This paper aims to present a new offline method for estimating induction motor parameters based on least squares and a salp swarm algorithm (SSA). Design/methodology/approach The central concept is to use the classic least squares (LS) method to acquire the majority of induction machine (IM) constant parameters, followed by the SSA method to obtain all parameters and minimize errors. Findings The obtained results showed that the LS method gives good results in simulation based on the assumption that the measurements are noise-free. However, unlike in simulations, the LS method is unable to accurately identify the machine’s parameters during the experimental test. On the contrary, the SSA method proves higher efficiency and more precision for IM parameter estimation in both simulations and experimental tests. Originality/value After performing a primary identification using the technique of least squares, the initial intention of this study was to apply the SSA for the purpose of identifying all of the machine’s parameters and minimizing errors. These two approaches use the same measurement from a simple running test of an IM, and they offer a quick processing time. Therefore, this combined offline strategy provides a reliable model based on the identified parameters.","PeriodicalId":55233,"journal":{"name":"Compel-The International Journal for Computation and Mathematics in Electrical and Electronic Engineering","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135824546","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By combining the armature and excitation circuits with the electrical circuit created for the mechanical part, the extended equivalent circuit model of the compound DC motor is obtained.
