{"title":"Pulmonary aspergillosis: pathologic and pathogenetic features.","authors":"R S Fraser","doi":"","DOIUrl":"","url":null,"abstract":"<p><p>Pulmonary aspergillosis is a relatively common fungal infection in individuals who are immunocompromised or have intrinsic lung disease. Clinical, radiological, and pathologic manifestations are quite varied and depend to a large extent on the type and severity of local or systemic host defense abnormalities. In individuals with only structural lung damage, saprophytic growth alone is the rule. Patients with atopy or other hypersensitivity state typically develop allergic disease, most often allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis. Individuals with other immunologic abnormalities, particularly immunodeficiency, and with granulocytopenia characteristically develop invasive disease, which may take several morphological forms. Identification of Aspergillus as the cause of all these disease variants is usually not a problem. {"title":"The histiocytoid hemangiomas and other controversies.","authors":"P W Allen,&nbsp;B Ramakrishna,&nbsp;L B MacCormac","doi":"","DOIUrl":"","url":null,"abstract":"<p><p>We have reviewed the clinicopathologic features of Kimura's disease, angiolymphoid hyperplasia with eosinophilia, epithelioid hemangioma of the testis, epithelioid hemangioendothelioma, spindle cell hemangioendothelioma, malignant endovascular papillary angioendothelioma of childhood (Dabska's tumor), epithelioid angiosarcoma, angioblastoma of Nakagawa, bacillary angiomatosis, verruga peruana, and other inflammatory angiomatoses. On the basis of our experience and reading of the literature, we conclude that angiolymphoid hyperplasia with eosinophilia, histiocytoid hemangioma of the testis, epithelioid hemangioendothelioma, and probably spindle cell hemangioendothelioma, constitute a group of related conditions best called the histiocytoid hemangiomas. Kimura's disease, Dabska's angioendothelioma, epithelioid angiosarcoma, and the inflammatory angiomatoses are not histiocytoid hemangiomas.
