Monthly samples were collected from September 2008 to September 2009. The parameters recorded included total length, total weight, and gonad weight of each organism; the gonad was processed using a histological technique, and the gonadal index and length at first maturity (L50) were estimated. C. virgulatus displays partial spawning with a reproductive peak in summer and autumn (July to December). The frequency of ripe organisms was associated with rises in SST (30.6 oC), AT (29.9 oC), and TC (68 cm, high tidal), while photoperiod (longer days) regulated the frequency of developing organisms. The length at first maturity was 29.7 mm. Su captura se realiza durante casi todo el ano, solo se suspende en los meses de su veda y al inicio de la temporada de pesca del camaron. La pesqueria se realiza en diferentes zonas del estado y representa una gran fuente de ingresos en el sector de pesca riberena, por ello la estimacion de parametros como la biomasa en el maximo rendimiento sostenible (BMRS) y el maximo rendimiento sostenible (MRS) son fundamentales para su manejo sustentable. En la presente investigacion, se utilizo la serie de captura oficial de 1993-2012 para 7 zonas de Sinaloa, Mexico, con la finalidad de detectar posibles problemas de sobre-explotacion del recurso. Los valores de tasa de incremento poblacional (r) calculados por el metodo de captura-MRS variaron entre 0,89 y 1,4, con una capacidad de carga (k) entre 390 y 14.814 t y un MRS de 131 a 3.302 t para las diversas zonas analizadas, mientras que en el analisis para todo el estado se estimo una r de 0,97, k de 32.550 t y un MRS de 7.895 t. Aggregation areas, such as Guadalupe Island, Mexico, that have been related to feeding events, are of special interest for this species conservation. The aim of this study was to describe the fatty acid profile of C. carcharias ' muscle for the first time on Guadalupe Island, using non-lethal biopsy methods to determine ontogenetic and sex differences in relation to diet and habitat use. Fatty acid profiles and biomarkers from different individuals are explored as a source of integrated information of their diet. Analysis of the fatty acid composition of individuals with varying total lengths (2.3-5.0 m) suggested a dietary shift between juveniles and adults occurring at aproximately 3 m. Fatty acid biomarkers indicated a higher degree of carnivorism in adults than in juveniles. Additionally, these ecological tracers suggested that juveniles feed in shallow waters close to the coast, while adults feed in deep waters along inshore and offshore areas. This study represents a first step towards using fatty acid composition as a relevant tool for further understanding dietary shifts and habitat use throughout the ontogeny of C. carcharias . En este trabajo se investigo la actividad de bacterias marinas provenientes de zonas costeras de la provincia de Arauco, Chile para ser usadas como potencial biocontrolador en sistemas artificiales de cultivo. Se realizo el muestreo de diferentes matrices comunmente asociadas a moluscos bivalvos en su estado natural y se procedio al aislamiento de bacterias marinas. Se evaluo la capacidad de estas bacterias para inhibir 3 bacterias patogenas asociadas normalmente al cultivo de moluscos bivalvos, Vibrio anguillarum , Vibrio splendidus y Vibrio parahaemolyticus . Ademas, se realizo una caracterizacion fenotipica de las cepas con actividad inhibitoria, considerando sus propiedades de inocuidad y crecimiento, para la utilizacion practica de estas cepas en sistemas de cultivo. De las 70 bacterias aisladas, 3 cepas fueron capaces de inhibir al menos un patogeno bacteriano, logrando crecer en agua marina. La caracterizacion fenotipica de estas 3 cepas permitio catalogarlas como pertenecientes a los generos Vibrio y Pseudomonas. Una cepa marina fue totalmente inocua segun las caracteristicas evaluadas in vitro . {"title":"Caracterización del sustrato bentónico del arrecife Tuxpan, Veracruz, México, con énfasis en la comunidad de corales escleractinios","authors":"Carlos González-Gándara, José de Jesús Salas-Pérez","doi":"10.22370/rbmo.2019.54.3.2009","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.22370/rbmo.2019.54.3.2009","url":null,"abstract":"Se caracteriza el sustrato bentonico del arrecife Tuxpan, Veracruz, Mexico con enfasis en la comunidad de corales escleractinios para definir el patron de riqueza y cobertura coralina de las formaciones tipo plataforma de Veracruz.117 fototransectos, fueron distribuidos en 4 zonas y 16 ambientes arrecifales durante 2015. Se tomaron un total de 2.920 fotografias sobre transectos de 25 m para estimar la cobertura con el programa Coral Point Count. La riqueza y cobertura coralina fueron comparadas para determinar su semejanza entre zonas y ambientes arrecifales, a partir de los grupos morfo funcionales (GMF), usando pruebas estadisticas o ecologicas. 36 especies componen la comunidad de corales escleractinios y la riqueza coralina mostro diferencias entre zonas, siendo mayor en las pendientes. De acuerdo con el analisis de escalamiento multidimensional no metrico (NMDS) y ANOSIM, los GMF y la cobertura especifica de corales caracterizaron 4 zonas arrecifales: planicie, cresta, pendiente de barlovento y pendiente de sotavento. La cobertura coralina en sotavento, es inversamente proporcional a la profundidad, donde los valores mas altos fueron observados entre 3 y 15 m. En barlovento, no se evidencio una relacion de la cobertura coralina con la profundidad y los valores mas altos se registraron entre 10 y 20 m. In-situ measurements of natural fluorescence and photosynthetically available radiation (PAR) enabled the subsequent calculation of the incident irradiance ( E 0 ), the light extinction coefficient ( k ), compensation depth ( Z c ) and critical depth ( Z cr ). Afectaciones al habitat de especies marinas han sido senaladas como consecuencia de factores naturales y antropicos. El objetivo fue determinar variaciones espacio-temporales significativas en la hidrologia del GB en diferentes periodos y situaciones ambientales. Para ello se analizo la variabilidad de la lluvia y la temperatura del aire en 1975-1995 y 1996-2015 periodos de baja y alta actividad ciclonica, las caracteristicas termohalinas del GB anterior (1959-1970) y posterior (2006-2016) al represamiento fluvial, y el efecto de dos huracanes casi simultaneaos en 2008 (“Gustav” e “Ike”). Diferencias significativas en la variabilidad interanual de parametros meteorologicos entre el norte y el sur del GB respondieron a caracteristicas locales, y ocurrieron cambios en la distribucion de los meses de maximas precipitaciones. El represamiento fluvial, sumado a deficits de precipitacion en primavera, verano e invierno, provocaron aumentos termohalinos en 2006-2016, con incremento de 0,7 °C en la temperatura del agua y de 2,3 en la salinidad promedio del GB, respecto a 1959-1970. La salinidad mostro una ampliacion en la distribucion de valores hipersalinos, y media > 36 en meses de altas precipitaciones, con promedio general de 35,4 en 1959-1970 y 37,7 en 2006-2016, esto sugiere que el represamiento ha sido un factor principal en las variaciones de salinidad. Due to its importance as fishery resource, were evaluated lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), mercury (Hg) and Total Volatile Base Nitrogen (TVBN) in the muscle tissue of 25 specimens, captured in the southern zone of Peruvian sea. These analytes were compared with current regulations and were determined its relationship with sex and total length (TL). We obtained ranges between 0.04-0.25, 0.01-0.04 and 0.09-0.50 mg kg -1 for Pb, Cd and Hg, respectively. TVBN values were between 38.50-94.60 mg TVBN 100 g -1 . Analytes did not have differences with TL and gender. Pb was positive correlation with TL, while the Cd, Hg and TVBN did not. Stomach content analyses were performed on 114 organisms caught from August 2004 to March 2005, and Levin's index was applied. The most important prey species were benthic fishes: Eucinostomus currani, Opisthonema libertate, Synodus lucioceps and Paralichthys californicus. The first cartilaginous structures appeared 10 days (4.2 mm NL) after hatching and by day 28 (14.9 mm TL) most of the bone elements had already formed.
