Mining areas are the most endangered and particularly highly exposed to the pollution. A good example of such area is a copper smelter plant „Legnica”. Therefore, the aim of the presented studies was to evaluate the toxicity within the area of smelter and, thus its impact on living organisms. The research hypothesis assumes that a copper smelter plant could have an adverse impact on the environment quality in the studied area. The studies were performed with ecotoxicological tests on plants and microorganisms. A potential susceptibility of the soil for the cultivation of crop plants was assessed as well. In our studies, a significant decrease in dehydrogenases activity was observed at the studied sites, although the permissible concentrations of copper were exceeded only at one site. The toxic effect on the length and development of examined plants was also recorded. Results show that heavy metals deriving from the copper smelter plant can still considerably influence the soil quality and living organisms.","PeriodicalId":53324,"journal":{"name":"Inzynieria Ekologiczna","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66192982","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the operation of such a system can potentially cause the accumulation of small -molecule micropollutants in the pool water treatment system. The aim of this work is to confirm or reject this argument. As part of preliminary tests, the content of organic and inorganic substances in swimming pool water was analyzed based on general indicators such as TOC, UV254 absorbance and conductivity. In the main stage of the research, pool water samples collected from four different points of the swimming pool installation were subjected to chromatographic analysis to determine the small-molecule micropollutants. The tap water used to fill the basin and regular replenishment of volume losses was also tested. This study was intended to exclude the tap water as a potential source of contamination in the pool water. Preliminary studies have shown almost a two-fold increase in the total organic carbon content and absorbance UV254 at the turn of six months, which undoubtedly indicates the accumulation of organic pollutants in pool water circulation systems. It was not observed in the case of inorganic compounds. As a result of the chromatographic analyzes of the pool water, the content of pharmaceuticals and personal care product was determined. It was found that the compensation tank is the place of the highest accumulation of the tested pharmaceuticals in the pool water treatment system , while the cosmetics component accumulated in the pool basin to the greatest degree. It was affected by the duration of the filter cycle.","PeriodicalId":53324,"journal":{"name":"Inzynieria Ekologiczna","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47602079","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The methods of recycling concrete debris used in the world along with their subjective assessment are presented in the paper. The legal regulations on concrete recycling defined by the European Union and Polish law are briefly characterized. The use of an appropriately effective method of recycling concrete debris allows obtaining a high quality secondary aggregate, which can be reused for the production of new concrete and reduces the consumption of natural aggregates.","PeriodicalId":53324,"journal":{"name":"Inzynieria Ekologiczna","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48062169","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Municipalities and cities undertake various activities and allocate significant resources to counteract the problem related to air and soil pollution, which is growing continuously. The specialists in the field of ecology have stated that an ideal solution would be to increase the amount of plants in the neighbourhood of residents. Such actions have been undertaken for many years, but clear positive effects have not been observed yet. In these urban areas, the declining conditions of mature plants can be observed, and the longevity of newly planted trees is becoming shorter due to the poor growth conditions. In order to improve the current situation, it has become necessary to develop package/s of solutions allowing for new plantings in cities and rural areas, as well as supporting plants which already exist. The latest scientific trends have showed that one of the most important and promising elements of these solutions could be the use of a structural substrates (a rock and soil mixture prepared according to a special recipe) that can be used as an alternative growth medium for trees instead of the standard up-to-date used soils. In our research, the experimental plot was designed using this type of substrate. The carried out capacity tests showed that the structural substrate has a definite advantage over the substrates presently used in urban areas. The use of structural substrates also enhanced the physiological conditions of the tested trees. Our results allowed us to confirm that structural substrates can be successfully used in the urban and rural areas, which would significantly improve the environmental conditions.","PeriodicalId":53324,"journal":{"name":"Inzynieria Ekologiczna","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66191887","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this work was to determine a simple and economically justified method of monitoring the effects of eutrophication of water in the agricultural area and linking the results of monitoring physicochemical parameters of water with chlorophyll fluorescence as a potential health risk on the basis of established alarm levels. The research was conducted in water reservoirs located in the rural area, differing in the intensity of exploitation of adjacent areas: located in the vicinity of intensively cultivated areas and in the protected area of the nature reserve. The work determined the efficiency of the photosynthetic apparatus of algae and physicochemical properties of water. The studies have shown that the increase in the chlorophyll fluorescence intensity is associated with an raised biogenic load and an increased occurrence of chlorophyll-containing micro-fractions. The results indicate the possibility of using chlorophyll fluorescence measurements to assess the degree of water eutrophication. The presented method can be used for a non-invasive, quick and precise assessment of the physiological status of water ecosystems in rural areas, particularly vulnerable to the eutrophication processes.","PeriodicalId":53324,"journal":{"name":"Inzynieria Ekologiczna","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66191922","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
