The yields of rice production cannot be separated from the role of agricultural extension workers. Agricultural extension workers certainly play an important role in encouraging changes in the behavior of farmers in order to improve their welfare. This study aimed to determine farmers' perceptions of the agricultural extension workers' role as a dynamic actor, facilitators, and motivators. This research was conducted in Maluhu Village, Tenggarong Subdistrict, Kutai Kartanegara Regency. The data collected is in the form of primary and secondary data. Data was collected through library research, observation, and interviews with the help of questionnaires. The farmer population comes from advanced-class farmer groups totaling 248 people. The number of samples used was determined using the Slovin formula, which consisted of 38 people—aimed at wet rice farmers who were members of the advanced class farmer groups. Selected respondents were determined using the purposive sampling method. The analysis used in this research is a descriptive analysis. The results of this study indicate that farmers' perceptions of the agricultural extension workers' role as a dynamic actor were relatively good. Farmers' perceptions of the role of agricultural extension workers as facilitators and farmers' perceptions of the role of agricultural extension workers as motivators were in a good category. Farmers' perceptions of the role of agricultural extension workers were classified as good, predominantly farmers aged between 50 and 59 years, at elementary school education level, and the size of the land they owned was between 0.25 and 0.5 ha. The analysis showed that farmers' age, education, and land tenure were not correlated with farmers' perceptions of the role of agricultural extension workers as dynamicator, facilitators, and motivators. However, farmer education was significantly correlated, at a 10% error level, to perceptions of the role of extension workers' roles as motivators.","PeriodicalId":53109,"journal":{"name":"Agric","volume":"84 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141841406","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research was conducted at Celeban Teaching Factory of Agricultural Development Polytechnic Yogyakarta-Magelang campus, Yogyakarta, Indonesia from February to June 2023. The research object consisted of two cucumber varieties as parental and two first derivatives or First Offspring lines from reciprocal crosses of two parental lines. The research method used a single-plant experiment by planting and observing each plant of the cross. The crossing was carried out by the double-cross method reciprocally to obtain two numbers of derivative plants, for each number planted as many as 80 plants so that there was a population of 160 derived plants and eight parental plants for each parental strain as a comparison. The parameters in this study included the intensity of green leaf color, the basic color of the fruit skin, the intensity degree of the basic color of the fruit skin, the tip shape of the fruit, the base form of the fruit and the cut of the crosscut fruit. The research’s results from the observed population obtained a diversity of fruit skin colors classified into 4 clusters of the candidate lines, namely bright yellow, bright green, medium green, and dark green fruit skin clusters.","PeriodicalId":53109,"journal":{"name":"Agric","volume":"26 5","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141847508","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Harvester Combine Machine (HCM) use in rice farming can eliminate harvesting labor. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the impact of HCM use to the rice farming laborers in Durian Seginim Village, and to analyze the adaptation actions taken by the laborers because of the impact of using HCM. The research was conducted in October 2022. The number of respondents was 100 and the data was taken randomly from 192 rice farmers who use HCM. The data analysis method used is descriptive qualitative analysis. The results showed that the use of HCM in rice farming provides benefits for farm owners in savings in harvesting costs of 23.99 percent. However, the use of HCM reduced employment opportunities by 58.72- time allocation of labor/Ha (36.78% of the total farming workforce). Specifically for harvesting workers, labor absorption decreased by 42.70 time allocation of labor/Ha (25.91%) which was dominated by female workers from outside the family. Female workers experienced a decline in their income and contribution to household income by 46.99 percent. The three adaptation actions most frequently carried out by harvesting workers are working in the on-farm agricultural sector outside rice farming (21%), working on land that does not use HCM (17%), and selling large or small of rice stock, user savings, etc. (13%)","PeriodicalId":53109,"journal":{"name":"Agric","volume":"23 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141853584","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research compares the livelihood capital of corn farmer households in the transmigration areas of Gorontalo and Boalemo districts, Gorontalo, Indonesia, and examines its impact on their livelihood strategy selection. The study involved 240 poor corn farmer households. Data analysis was conducted by computing the livelihood capital index through entropy weighting analysis, followed by multinomial logistic regression analysis to examine the influence of livelihood capital on livelihood strategies. Findings indicate a higher level of livelihood capital in Boalemo Regency than in Gorontalo Regency, with Boalemo District outperforming in physical and human capital. In contrast, the Gorontalo district excels in natural and social capital. However, the financial capital of corn farmer households in both regions still needs to be improved. Natural and human capital significantly influences the likelihood of corn farming households opting for on-farm strategies over a combination of on-farm and off-farm strategies. In the case of on-farm and off-farm strategies, natural capital substantially enhances the probability of corn farmer households selecting both on-farm and off-farm strategies rather than solely on-farm and non-farm strategies. Conversely, physical capital diminishes the likelihood of corn farmer households adopting both on-farm and off-farm strategies compared to the combination of on-farm and non-farm strategies.","PeriodicalId":53109,"journal":{"name":"Agric","volume":"6 11","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141845341","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Intercropping potatoes with faba beans is being explored to control pest infestations in tropical areas. This study aims to provide insights into pest dynamics and improve pestmanagement strategies for sustainable potato cultivation. The research evaluates five cropping systems, each replicated across seven beds: potato monoculture, alternating growth of potatoes and faba beans at a 2:1 ratio, planting faba beans between the rows of potatoes at a 1:1 ratio, growing faba beans between two beds of potatoes, and cultivating solely faba beans. The study looked at various factors such as the type and intensity of pest attacks on potatoes. It found that planting faba beans alongside potatoes can help reduce aphid (Homoptera: Aphididae) and mirid bug (Hemipetra: Miridae) attacks, but may not affect grasshopper (Orthoptera: Acrididaeand Pyrgomorphidae) attacks. The distance between potato beds and the population of faba bean plants can also influence pest interactions. Understanding these dynamics offers important information for sustainable pest management practices in intercropping systems.","PeriodicalId":53109,"journal":{"name":"Agric","volume":"24 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141845794","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Merril) is a food and industrial crop and a base for agricultural production. Adding organic material can increase plant growth and produce high yields. One of the organic materials that can be used is palm oil mill solid waste, specifically solid decanter cake (DC). However, the results showed that DC could only substitute 50 per cent of chemical fertilisers. DC must be combined with other materials, specifically Plant Growth plant-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR), to maximise its benefits. PGPR is a group of bacteria that live in the plant rhizosphere and actively function as biofertilisers, biostimulants, and bioprotectants. Combining DC and PGPR is necessary because they have a mutually beneficial relationship, as DC is an organic material that can provide the nutrients PGPR bacteria need. This research will evaluate whether the collaboration of DC and PGPR can increase soybean growth and yield in ultisols using a Randomized Block Design. Combining decanter cake (DC) with a PGPR concentration can enhance soybean growth and yield. Soybean plants treated with 15-ton ha-1 + 50% PGPR DC tend to have the highest number of leaves, plant height, and number of branches, but DC 10-ton, ha-1 + 30% PGPR, has an equivalent effect. The treatment of 10 tons per hectare of decanter cake with 30% PGPR concentration tended to have the highest number of pods and yield.","PeriodicalId":53109,"journal":{"name":"Agric","volume":"22 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141842026","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
