The IMW device was created as part of a project financed by the National Center for Research and Development, under Measure 4.1 of the Intelligent Development Operational Program 2014-2020 POIR.04.01.04-00-0157/17-00. The leader of the project is MobileMS, while the Railway Institute conducted various research works from 2019 to 2021 together with other institutions (consortium partners) i.e. STIPENDIUM Institute of Science and Technology and Kodegenix. The Automation and Telecommunications Laboratory of the Railway Institute realized part of the electromagnetic compatibility tests. The measurements were carried out in laboratory and field conditions in order to reduce as much as possible the level of generated interference from the IMW device. Tests were carried out on the IMW device mounted by means of metal clamps on the hydraulic distribution block of the WM-15A type motorized bogie. EMC and interference test specialists of the Railway Institute developed test templates according to which the planned measurements were carried out. This is especially true for low-bearing soil. The paper presents a quick and effective method of strengthening the subsoil intended for the construction of engineering structures used for civil or military air operations. It allows the use of wastelands, wetlands, swamps, etc. for the above-mentioned purposes, thus creating a dispersed network of landing sites increasing the security of the country and increasing the availability of air transport for large society groups. The author proves that the revitalization of railway stations and sidings can contribute to increasing the competitiveness of rail transport, especially in the area of competing with road freight carriers for transport orders as part of dispersed transport, as well as securing the transport system in Poland against the effects of increasing congestion in road transport. Unfortunately, in the Third Republic of Poland, the number of railway sidings has been systematically decreasing, and the problems of transporting goods by rail are exacerbated by the optimization of railway infrastructure in terms of fast passenger trains. The plans for renovation and expansion of the railway network take into account the needs of passenger traffic rather than freight, which is manifested, for example, in the elimination of the so-called train passing loops. The level of their differentiation in relation to bus and rail transport is a serious barrier to the tariff integration of these two means of transport. Hence, in the course of works on the amendment to the act on public collective transport, it seems advisable to attempt to standardize statutory concessions, as well as to include provisions relating to them to the indicated normative act. In the current legal state, the provisions regulating this issue have been included in at least a few acts. The adoption of the assumption assuming their unification should lead to simplification of the currently applicable system, and thus accelerate the process of ticket integration. The first part contains a brief overview of the development stages of the Polish railway network after World War II. On the other hand, in the second part, the declarations or intentions to build new conventional lines reported in government documents in the years 1990-2020 were analyzed. In this part, the project of building a new line Podłęże - Szczyrzyc - Tymbark, along with the modernization of the existing Chabówka - Nowy Sącz line, is discussed in more detail. The further part of the article indicates that a radical breakthrough in declaring the need to build new conventional railway lines took place in 2017 and in the following years, when a completely new concept for the construction of the Central Communication Port (CPK) in Baranów near Warsaw was published and preparations for this construction began. The total length of new, conventional sections of railway lines to be built as part of the STH construction project by 2035 is over 900 km. These sections have been specified with the emphasis on the fact that in the following years in-depth analyzes as to the legitimacy of their construction are necessary. {"title":"The moving chord method for determining the curvature of the track axis","authors":"W. Koc","doi":"10.35117/a_eng_22_04_05_03","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.35117/a_eng_22_04_05_03","url":null,"abstract":"Abstract: The paper adresses the issue of determining the curvature of the axis of the railway track in order to enable the determination of the geometrical characteristics of the measured route. A new concept of determining the curvature was used by the method of changing the angles of inclination of a moving (virtual) chord based on the knowlege of the Cartesian coordinates of a given region of the route. The verification of the proposed method, carried out on unambiguosly defined model geometric track layouts, showed the complete agreement of the obtained curvature diagrams with the diagrams constituting the basis for obtaining the corresponding geometric solution. The use of the moving chord method to determine the curvature of the operated railway track showed that the obtained curvature plots clearly differ from those for model layouts; they have a less regular, oscillating character, which results from the track deformation and measurement error. However, this does not prevent the possibility of estimating the basic geometrical parameters of the measured layout on this basis. This applies especially to railway networks, where it is necessary to eliminate the communication barrier of the Carpathians - to delineate new routes connecting the railway networks of the countries of the Three Seas Initiative. The subject of this paper is a proposal for the implementation of an investment that allows to create a route with the working name Rail Adriatica, which is an alternative variant (moved to the east) of the first TEN-T (Baltic- Adriatic) corridor; the variant including the so far omitted Hungary, Slovenia and Croatia. The aim of the investment is to create a new railway line with high operational parameters (construction of new sections along with the modernization and revitalization of the existing sections) which connects the Polish and Slovak railway networks in the Podhale and Orawa area - from the Polish Rabka to the Slovak Kralovan. It would be a natural extension of the already constructed “Podłęże-Piekiełko” line towards the south-west, giving the opportunity to delineate a new railway corridor with high operational parameters. The structural difference of tram frogs in relation to railway frogs is presented. The causes of the phenomenon of underestimating the need to monitor the wear of tram frogs were defined. National regulations governing the design, construction and maintenance of tram frogs have been reviewed and compared with the corresponding regulations for rail infrastructure. A review of the measurement methods and measuring devices used in the field of wear analysis of steel elements of rail surfaces was carried out, with particular emphasis on the latest technologies. Three selected examples of tests of tram frogs, differing in the measuring equipment used, are presented. In the summary, conclusions from the conducted research and analyzes were formulated.
