The new genus is related to Zelotes in having an intercalary sclerite in the male palp, but is distinguished from the latter by the male palp with an embolar radix reduced, a long embolus arising ventrally and a curved ridge on the retrolateral side of the cymbium, and the female genitalia with internal ducts complexly winding. Three species previously assigned to Zelotes are transferred to the new genus: Aponetius gladius (Kamura 1999) n. comb., A. ryukyuensis (Kamura 1999) n. comb. and A. flexuosus (Kamura 1999) n. comb. Under a light-dark cycle, locomotion was initiated ca. 1 hour after the dark phase began and the peak activity period occurred in the first half of the dark phase. The locomotor activity persisted in continuous darkness and continuous light and was well-entrained to a skeleton photoperiod. In this paper, a new species, S. ryukyuensis sp. nov., is described and compared with S. kumadai, which is redescribed. The attacked host was an adult in contrast to the exclusive utilization of juveniles of the main host, Agelena silvatica. Both sexes of this species possess a bicolor body: prosoma reddish orange and opithosoma dark grey, which is useful for distinction from other congeners. The male palpal morphology of this species is similar to that of W. sinensis and W. muji , but can clearly be distinguished by the serrated edge on the posterior side of the median apophysis.
