Ten mental health consumers attended 1–6 monthly FT sessions. Interviews were conducted to understand whether FT contributed to therapeutic change. We used a phenomenological framework and reflexive thematic analysis to understand the data. Three themes were developed that reflected 1) experiencing safety through the forest; 2) connecting with the forest, the present, and each other; and 3) lasting therapeutic impacts related to spirituality and symptomatology. This study provides initial insight toward the potential of FT in supporting a range of mental health presentations.","PeriodicalId":51916,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Spirituality in Mental Health","volume":"57 1","pages":"320 - 342"},"PeriodicalIF":1.5,"publicationDate":"2022-08-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74178895","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

First, several brief clarifying remarks concerning religion and spirituality, followed by similar but more extended remarks on guilt and shame. Second, consideration of religion’s negative influence on wellness and wholeness in mental health when religion contributes to excessive feelings of guilt and shame. Third, reflections on the potentially negative influence of such feelings on religion. Fourth, religion’s positive contribution to mental health when religion helps enable the healing of wounds arising due to the debilitating influence of inordinate feelings of guilt and shame.","PeriodicalId":51916,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Spirituality in Mental Health","volume":"167 1","pages":"261 - 276"},"PeriodicalIF":1.5,"publicationDate":"2022-08-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83112636","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article is an appreciative inquiry into theological and spiritual resources that respond to the emerging understanding of military moral injury. It discusses how Scriptural hermeneutics and experience of moral injury inform one another, how leadership fosters a nurturing community, how liturgy can aid spiritual healing and other implications of the retreats. Participants’ experience of Warrior Welcome Home demonstrates the therapeutic character of the Christian scriptures, community and liturgy in ways that are relevant to understanding and responding to moral injury with efficacious spiritual care.","PeriodicalId":51916,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Spirituality in Mental Health","volume":"138 1","pages":"177 - 197"},"PeriodicalIF":1.5,"publicationDate":"2022-07-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76617713","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nurses see controversial issues and face different complications that lead to work-life conflicts and compromise patient safety. Finding volunteer nurses is a fantastic adventure in such a situation. This study attempted to analyze volunteer nurses’ experiences and factors influencing care in the COVID-19 pandemic situation. A qualitative descriptive study was applied from Jun to May 2021 in four different hospitals in Iran. Data was collected by Semi-structured interviews (N:13) with an open-ended question until data saturation. Data were analyzed using qualitative content analysis. The study was approved by the ethics committee of Birjand University medical and science and was conducted in achievement of the moral standards in terms of voluntary participation, the confidentiality of data, anonymity, and verbal informed consent. Two main themes obtained were “A faith-based approach” and “Care, an opportunity for spiritual transcendence.” Five categories are “Belief in a divine destiny,” “Transformation of life meaning”, “spiritual hedonism”, “Wise self-sacrifice”, and “Sacred Defense” and ten subcategories were extracted that indicated volunteer nurses’ perspectives during the COVID-19 outbreak. Cultural and individual factors lead to making decisions in nurses. Themes indicate that spiritual perspectives, ethical issues, and religious points of view are factors that can influence willingness, commitment, and function of nurses. Spiritual transcendence is one of the most valuable humanistic situations that manifest for nurses than normal circumstances. It is pivotal for senior educational and clinical managers to identify, develop, and strengthen the capacity of nurses with such a vision to recruit them in high-responsibility departments, and know-how to transfer these perspectives to the next generation of nurses.","PeriodicalId":51916,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Spirituality in Mental Health","volume":"1 1","pages":"243 - 260"},"PeriodicalIF":1.5,"publicationDate":"2022-07-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83337159","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We first review the three Principles and use their logic to explain why these two typically unrecognized ingredients can improve and sustain treatment outcomes for people experiencing traumatic memories. Then, we use the logic of the Principles to speculate why the prevailing “gold standard” interventions for resolving traumatic memories – cognitive-behavior therapy, and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing – are effective to the degree they are.","PeriodicalId":51916,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Spirituality in Mental Health","volume":"17 1","pages":"160 - 176"},"PeriodicalIF":1.5,"publicationDate":"2022-06-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88904787","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Limited studies have examined its applicability within secular Western contexts. Two-hundred and fourteen New Zealand university students completed a questionnaire measuring their spiritual intelligence, resilience, and several aspects of wellbeing. Results revealed that spiritual intelligence was significantly associated with increased resilience and reduced feelings of depression and stress, but not anxiety. However, the relationship between spiritual intelligence scores and combined depression, anxiety, and stress scores was fully mediated by resilience scores, suggesting that spiritual intelligence per se may not directly affect wellbeing.","PeriodicalId":51916,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Spirituality in Mental Health","volume":"143 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.5,"publicationDate":"2022-06-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80449186","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The central tenets of Buddhist psychology are explored in the Abhidharma, a collection of psychological works from the traditional canon. The Abhidharma includes detailed expositions of the structure of consciousness; the natures of active cognitive processes and passive states; the relationships between material and mental phenomena, conditionality, and “dependent arising”; and the practice of meditation. These concepts are increasingly relevant owing to the continued emergence of psychotherapeutic practices (e.g., mindfulness) with significant roots in Buddhism.","PeriodicalId":51916,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Spirituality in Mental Health","volume":"43 1","pages":"71 - 82"},"PeriodicalIF":1.5,"publicationDate":"2022-05-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78616714","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, preliminary evidence has shown that when also a cognitive component is included, the direction of this relationship seems to emerge more clearly. Specifically, the differential pathways linking specific positive self-transcendent (ST) experiences and religiosity/spirituality is still an open issue. In this study, we explored the cognitive pathways linking general ST to spirituality and religiosity, via basic beliefs. The results obtained were partially in line with the existing literature. Notably, being a believer or not did not affect the emotional side but only the cognitive one.","PeriodicalId":51916,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Spirituality in Mental Health","volume":"25 1","pages":"104 - 127"},"PeriodicalIF":1.5,"publicationDate":"2022-05-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83173893","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Ibn Qayyim had rightly identified the relation between the physical and spiritual ailments. He has contributed both in the fields of spiritual and physical health.
