Participants were 244 university students who were asked about their educational, cultural, and family backgrounds; previous experiences and attitudes in purchasing (or otherwise obtaining) condoms; experience and knowledge about topics directly relevant to sexuality; personality traits; and parent-child sexual communication. Zero-order correlation and multiple regression analyses were used to identify predictors of emotional comfort in purchasing condoms. Regression results demonstrated that lower religiosity, more favourable attitudes toward birth control, lower neuroticism, and greater parent-child sexual communication predicted comfort in purchasing condoms. Qualitative analyses revealed that individuals who purchased condoms typically reported either feeling embarrassed and concerned about being exposed or that they had acted appropriately and responsibly. ...","PeriodicalId":51789,"journal":{"name":"Canadian Journal of Human Sexuality","volume":"22 1","pages":"86-94"},"PeriodicalIF":1.4,"publicationDate":"2013-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.3138/CJHS.2013.2201","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69892151","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A total of 296 undergraduate students from a French-Canadian university completed the PEESP scale in addition to measures of sexual and couple satisfaction. Exploratory factorial analyses revealed three factors underlying the perception of one's contribution to the couple's sex life: implication, expression of discomfort, and sharing. These subscales were replicated for the perception of the partner's contribution to the couple's sex life which allowed three scores to be computed assessing the perceived equality of the contributions to the couple's sex life. Correlations were found between the nine subscales and the levels of couple and sexual satisfaction, thus indicating convergent validity. Internal consistency and test-retest reliability over a two-week period were satisfactory for all subscales. The perception of sexual equity was also assessed by two global questions inspired by previou...","PeriodicalId":51789,"journal":{"name":"Canadian Journal of Human Sexuality","volume":"67 1","pages":"25-39"},"PeriodicalIF":1.4,"publicationDate":"2013-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.3138/CJHS.922","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69891967","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By examining the underlying justifications for existing and proposed criminal offences – child pornography and non-consensual distribution of intimate images – as well as the wrongs that undergird private law causes of action like \"publication of private facts\" and \"intentional infliction of emotional distress,\" the author aims to clarify what sorts of acts of sexting are or should be considered wrongful in a legal sense. Clarifying the wrongs at issue also serves to clarify the rights of victims at issue when sexting is used to inflict harm on another person: namely, that we all have a right to both protection from sexual victimization and from undue interference with sexual expression.","PeriodicalId":51789,"journal":{"name":"Canadian Journal of Human Sexuality","volume":"22 1","pages":"117-122"},"PeriodicalIF":1.4,"publicationDate":"2013-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.3138/CJHS.22.3.C01","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69892336","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Sanders","doi":"10.3138/CJHS.2316","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.3138/CJHS.2316","url":null,"abstract":"Young adult Canadians of university age are highly sexually active compared to other age groups and are at relatively high risk for sexually transmitted infections (STI). It is therefore important to comprehensively assess condom use in this age group. In this study, the prevalence and individual predictors of condom use at last penile vaginal intercourse (PVI) were assessed in a national sample of 653 Canadian university students (252 male, 401 female). Overall, less than half of students (47.2%) reported condom use at last PVI. Condom use was higher among men (55.4%) than women (42.3%). For both men and women, the most frequently cited main reason for having used a condom was birth control. In multivariate analyses, the strongest predictor of condom use at last PVI was a preference for condoms as a contraceptive method; specifically, men and women who stated condoms were their preferred method were 9 and 23 times, respectively, more likely to use condoms at last PVI than those who selected another method. Female students who reported that their most recent sexual encounter occurred with a more committed partner (e.g., committed dating versus a hook-up) had slightly lower odds of reporting condom use at last PVI. The results indicated that rates of condom use are low among Canadian university students and that many students are likely at high risk for STI. Interventions to raise awareness of STIs are needed on Canadian university campuses and educational programs should emphasize improving attitudes towards condoms in addition to developing sexual health knowledge and condom use skills.","PeriodicalId":51789,"journal":{"name":"Canadian Journal of Human Sexuality","volume":"22 1","pages":"142-151"},"PeriodicalIF":1.4,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.3138/CJHS.2316","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69892402","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
