Accommodating natural development, social changes and needs, Islam has left no aspect of human endeavours unregulated, including human cloning. However, emerging issues about human cloning signal little or no proper understanding of the concept by the Muslims leading to flagrant Islamic disavowal; hence, the need to re-examine the concept from Muslim’s perspectives. Drawing from Maqāṣid Sharīʿah principles, including the rule of necessity for self-preservation and respect for human beings, this paper seeks to assess permissibility or otherwise of human cloning through the ethical lens of Islamic jurists. The paper argues that if human cloning could not be prohibited as such, it could still be opposed because it engenders various harmful consequences, which include family disorder, chaos in the clone's family relationships, physical and mental diseases for clones and suffering of egg donors and surrogate mothers. However, human cloning for biomedical research and exploitation of stem cells from cloned embryos at the blastocyst stage for therapeutic purposes would be acceptable. The paper concludes that there is no ethical impediment to taking adventure in human cloning, whose probable benefit outweighs possible harm.","PeriodicalId":517447,"journal":{"name":"Middle East Journal of Islamic Studies and Culture","volume":"31 5","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140396177","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Studies into feminism and its counterparts have mostly been conducted in Western individualistic cultures where women are comparatively better in status as compared to women belonging to collectivistic cultures. The current study intended to portray a well-documented feministic picture of the status of educated Pakistani women. The study used both qualitative and quantitative approaches and involved 1321 women from Pakistan. The findings revealed that Pakistani women perceive feminism in align with the essence of the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women. They are satisfactorily aware of the dire need to change the culture in their favor and are desirous to be actively involved in the pursuit of development. The study forecasts a rapid and progressive cultural change for women empowerment in Pakistan, by the women themselves, in the coming decade.","PeriodicalId":517447,"journal":{"name":"Middle East Journal of Islamic Studies and Culture","volume":"24 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140286174","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Lime and Organic amendments can contribute to correct soil acidity and soil degradation. The combined application of lime and VC onwheat has not been investigated in the area, in which wheat and barley was one of the potential cereal crops in the area. A field experiment was conducted on acidic nitisols of west shewa zone of two districts (Jibat and Ilfata) in two locations at 2020 cropping season to evaluate the role of integrated soil acidity management, including applications of lime and Vermicompost on food barley and wheat growth and grain yield integrated with the use of inorganic fertilizer alone. The treatments were arranged in a randomized complete block design. Growth, yield and yield components result showed a significant effect (p<0.05) on plant height, spike length, number of seed per plant, above ground biomass of wheat and barley. Most of treatment receive amendments were statistically equal, however the combined application of lime at 50% + 50% VC and 50% RSSF ha-1 gave the highest growth and other yield and yield components parameters equally with full dose application whereas the lowest was from control plots for both test crops. Generally, integrated use of properly managed lime, organic (VC) and inorganic/mineral fertilizer could be used for soil acidity management and crop production in acid soil of the study area.","PeriodicalId":517447,"journal":{"name":"Middle East Journal of Islamic Studies and Culture","volume":"33 9","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140463917","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
