P. Baltalon at the 2nd All-Russian Congress of Pedagogical Psychology in St. Petersburg in 1909. In the published paper, the author presented himself as a researcher of school psychology. This study was focused on the school student’s reading interests. The study was conducted using a survey among 1600 respondents of different ages and different types of schools. It allowed the author to draw a conclusion about school students’ reading preferences and correlate them with the content of educational chrestomathies for classroom (program) reading. This study allowed the author to conclude that the composition of school chrestomathy neither in content nor in genres of the proposed texts does not meet the reader’s interests of the school students. Baltalon proposed to replace the chrestomathy with pamphlets of artistic and popular science content, reading and in-depth study of which should make classroom reading an interesting activity for school students. In order for this to take place, teachers and publishers need to work together. The purpose of the article is to present the concept of educational reading by Ts. P. Baltalon and briefly describe its main provisions.","PeriodicalId":517205,"journal":{"name":"Book. Reading. The index of media activities for reading on paper continues to decline steadily. The formation processes of a technogenic society in the country as well as digitalization and convergence of media industry, including publishing, bookselling and library complex and mass media in the early 21st century brought a powerful contradiction. On the one hand, serious threats to the existence of books and reading have arisen, but on the other hand, new opportunities for maintaining and enhancing book culture have appeared. Under these conditions, the professional community has taken effective measures to stimulate public interest in books, reading and libraries. It involved interested organizations in this process; developed special programs and projects for the promotion and development of book culture; created special centers at libraries and universities dedicated to the study of modern reading; provided scientific, methodological and practical assistance to libraries. The professional community also organized the largest professional forums and campaigns to attract the public to reading. The purpose of the article is to show how various institutions, centers, government structures and creative unions in Russia support, promote and popularize the reading. This article allow us to get acquainted with the most successful experience of existing and/or newly created organizations and public associations carried out educational, informational and research activities in the field of books and reading. ","PeriodicalId":517205,"journal":{"name":"Book. The place of reading in its structure also has changed. The article discusses the similarities between reading books and magazines as a process itself and sociocultural practice. The author suggests that book, magazine and news media consumption is in a relationship of mutual support and mutual influence. The author argues that the habit of such \"long\" reading is being influenced by crisis phenomena in the periodical segment: a sharp decline in readership, a decline in print circulation and difficulty in accessing. In recent years, the focus on electronic formats of publications has been the main direction in the transformation of reader practices. If e-books are considered as the same \"long” reading practice, the similarity with media consumption practices on the Internet, especially in social networks, is doubtful. Despite the fact that in the Internet and social networks the audience also \"reads\", the intellectual ethic of consuming quick unrelated pieces of information from a variety of sources is changing this sociocultural practice itself. Soon, book reading, quite possibly, will depend on the accumulated practices of Internet surfing, Internet reading and the ability of people to deal with long texts.","PeriodicalId":517205,"journal":{"name":"Book. Kolomiets","doi":"10.20913/brm-1-1-2","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.20913/brm-1-1-2","url":null,"abstract":"The article implements the idea of mediatization as a process of transformation of mass communication industry. Nowadays, the current system of mass communication is under the pressure of digital transit, which is transgressive in nature. It breaks traditional business patterns; requires business administration to make mental changes in thinking and management practices; creates the highest level of tension among media managers. The article attempts to conceptualize (through the analysis of industrial ‘points of tension’: between television and online video – players of the cross-media measurement) some aspects of the digital transformation of the media industry and industrial management practices. The conflict between the digital environment generated by the relatively free development of the Internet and the purposefully organized and institutionalized state-controlled media lies at the core of this transformation.","PeriodicalId":517205,"journal":{"name":"Book.
