Soft tissue harvested was histologically analyzed for cellularity, vascularity and other characteristics of the dental pulp. Results: This study included 15 teeth from nine neonates, of which seven erupted at birth, eight erupted within the first month of birth. All erupted in the mandibular anterior region. The demineralized ground section revealed enamel cracks, a straight dentinoenamel junction, and S-shaped dentinal tubules along with the enamel lamellae, and enamel spindle. None of the samples showed enamel tuft or cementum. Histology of soft tissue revealed enhanced cellularity, vascularity without any fibrosis, calcification and inflammation when compared with the young healthy pulp in permanent teeth. Conclusion: The prematurely erupted teeth in newborns were almost exclusively rootless and exhibited the characteristic anatomical findings pertaining to enamel, dentin, dentinoenamel junction and cementoenamel junction. The histology of their dental pulp was characterized by increased cellularity and vascularity compared.
","PeriodicalId":51605,"journal":{"name":"JOURNAL OF DENTISTRY FOR CHILDREN","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2023-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138832953","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For each tooth, scans were performed on both the affected and the non-affected areas, and their corresponding optical images were captured. Results: In the qualitative analyses, in most of the images bright lines were observed in relation to the enamel surface and a high level of photon scattering immediately below the enamel surface. This showed that the shading distribution can be identified as hypomineralized areas in which the scattering signal can be used as a diagnostic criterion. In the quantitative analyses, Tukey's test was performed to evaluate the means of the optical attenuation coefficient, which did not present significant differences. However, considering the correlation, homogeneity and contrast analyses, a statistically significant difference was observed between the groups. The group with severe MIH showed greater homogeneity and correlation, but less contrast. Conclusion: Currently, MIH has its severity measured by essentially clinical means. OCT processing techniques reveal advances in the diagnostic imaging of MIH, showing that image texture analysis can be a promising and useful method to aid in its diagnosis.
","PeriodicalId":51605,"journal":{"name":"JOURNAL OF DENTISTRY FOR CHILDREN","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2023-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138832874","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of this study was to assess pediatric dentists' interest in and concerns with the use of AAT and identify its challenges and limitations. A survey was sent to the membership of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, comprising questions about providers' practices and their views on the benefits of and concerns about implementing AAT. Ninety-two percent of the respondents felt that pet therapy would improve a patient's comfort; 67 percent indicated they expected a moderate or strong improvement, but only eight percent expected no improvement. Hygiene (26 percent) and liability (26 percent) were the main reservations about its use. This paper illustrates that the profession is open to AAT for behavior guidance and offers ways to incorporate it into practice.
","PeriodicalId":51605,"journal":{"name":"JOURNAL OF DENTISTRY FOR CHILDREN","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2023-05-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"10081473","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Clinical protocols have evolved in recent years, especially after the introduction of rigid internal fixation methods and the development of novel resorbable materials. The purpose of this report is to present the case of a three-year-old toddler who fell from a bunk bed at home, resulting in a unilateral fracture of the mandibular parasymphysis and a joint fracture on the left side. The patient was treated under general anesthesia with rigid internal fixation with biodegradable plates and screws. Pediatric patients can benefit from resorbable materials, especially their faster mobilization and avoidance of secondary removal operations. Self-reinforced fixation devices are safe and efficient for the treatment of pediatric mandible fractures. The purpose of this study was to evaluate pediatric dentists' current utilization of follow-up visits after GA and to evaluate pediatric dentists' and guardians' perceptions of their purpose and value. Methods: Three separate surveys were administered: (1) pediatric dentist survey, (2) guardian pre-appointment survey and (3) guardian post-appointment survey. The guardian surveys examined their perceptions of a follow-up visit before and after FMDR under GA. The pediatric dentist survey examined current utilization and perception of follow-up appointments. Results: Most clinicians (72 percent) reported scheduling a follow-up visit. Providers generally agreed that the post-operative appointments were important (69 percent).
