This period is often divided into three stages: immediate, early, and remote puerperium. Early puerperium, the first week after childbirth, is critical due to the heightened risk of complications, especially following cesarean sections (CS). \u0000Objective: This study aims to investigate the prevalence and types of early puerperal complications in women undergoing elective and emergency cesarean sections. \u0000Methods: A retrospective observational study was conducted in the Obstetrics and Gynecology department at Enam Medical College Hospital, Savar, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Hospital records from January 2015 to December 2015 were reviewed, including 100 women who had undergone cesarean sections. Data on demographic characteristics, antenatal care, risk factors, and types of early puerperal morbidities were collected and analyzed using SPSS version 20. \u0000Results: The study found that 55% of the participants were aged 21-30 years, 70% belonged to poor socioeconomic backgrounds, and 90% were housewives. A significant 70% of the women had not received any antenatal care. The most prevalent risk factors for early puerperal morbidities were obstructed labor (40%) and prolonged labor (30%). Common complications included wound infections (50%), endomyometritis (45%), and urinary tract infections (35%). \u0000Conclusion: Early puerperal complications are prevalent among women who undergo cesarean sections, particularly those from low socioeconomic backgrounds with inadequate antenatal care. Addressing these issues through improved prenatal and postnatal care and better access to skilled birth attendants can potentially reduce these complications and enhance maternal health outcomes. \u0000

This study aimed to assess the visual outcomes following occlusion therapy in children with anisometropic amblyopia, focusing on improvements in best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) over a six-month period. \u0000Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in Shaheed Monsur Ali Medical College Hospital, Dhaka, Bangladesh during the period from January 2015 to August 2015. Participants underwent occlusion therapy, where the better-seeing eye was covered for varying durations based on initial BCVA. Visual acuity was measured using the Snellen chart and converted to logMAR units at baseline, and after 1, 3, and 6 months of therapy. Statistical analysis was performed using Pearson’s correlation test. \u0000Results: The mean BCVA improved significantly from 0.88±0.28 at baseline to 0.55±0.21 after 1 month, 0.42±0.15 after 3 months, and 0.23±0.12 after 6 months (p < 0.001 for all comparisons). Among the participants, 68% had hypermetropia, 22% had astigmatism, and 10% had myopia. The majority of participants (68%) had anisometropic amblyopia in the right eye. The age distribution was 32% aged 5-7 years, 47% aged 8-9 years, and 21% aged 10-11 years, with a mean age of 8.64 years. Gender distribution was 64% male and 36% female. \u0000Conclusion: Occlusion therapy significantly improves visual acuity in children with anisometropic amblyopia, with early and consistent treatment yielding the best results. A total of 60 permanent teeth with periradicular pathosis were selected and randomly assigned into two groups. Group 1 (ZOE group) comprised 30 teeth treated with a ZOE sealer, while Group 2 (Sealapex group) included 30 teeth treated with a calcium hydroxide-containing sealer. Clinical evaluations were performed at 3 months and 12 months post-treatment, with patient complaints recorded and analyzed using SPSS version 22 and Microsoft Excel. \u0000Results: Group 2 had a higher proportion of younger participants (40.00% aged 11-20) compared to Group 1 (26.67%). Group 1 had more males (66.67%) compared to Group 2 (56.67%). Trauma was the leading etiological factor in both groups. Maxillary teeth were more frequently affected, with 56.67% in Group 1 and 63.33% in Group 2. Pre-operative pain was higher in Group 2 (90.00%) compared to Group 1 (76.67%). At the 3-month follow-up, percussion pain was more prevalent in Group 1 (76.67%) than in Group 2 (46.67%, p = 0.016). By the 12-month follow-up, percussion pain persisted in 13.33% of Group 1 but was absent in Group 2. The primary objective was to identify the prevalent antibiotic sensitivities in order to enhance the efficacy of treatment strategies for typhoid fever in children. Methods: Ninety-eight suspected cases of enteric fever, aged between 2 and 12 years, were selected from admissions to the above-mentioned hospital. Blood culture and sensitivity testing were performed for Salmonella typhi and paratyphi. Demographic information, pre-admission antibiotic usage, and sensitivity profiles to various antibiotics, including Ceftriaxone, Cefixime, Chloramphenicol, Ciprofloxacin, Azithromycin, Amoxicillin, Imipenem, Nalidixic acid, and Ampicillin, were analyzed. Results: The majority of patients (62.2%) were in the 5-9 years age group, and males constituted 61.22% of the study population. Blood cultures revealed 71.44% sensitivity for Salmonella typhi and 28.57% for paratyphi. Among the antibiotics tested, Ceftriaxone exhibited 100% sensitivity, followed by Cefixime (80.2%), Chloramphenicol (78.57%), Ciprofloxacin (65.20%), Azithromycin (60%), Amoxicillin (54.6%), Imipenem, Nalidixic acid (Intermediate sensitive, 56.3%), Ciprofloxacin (Intermediate sensitive, 25%), and Ampicillin (Intermediate sensitive, 18.8%). Nearly half of the patients (47.3%) received antibiotics before admission, and 43.8% of culture-positive patients had a history of pre-admission antibiotic use. Conclusion: The study concludes that understanding antibiotic sensitivity patterns is crucial for successful typhoid fever treatment in children. Ceftriaxone and Cefixime emerged as highly effective, while the unnecessary use of antibiotics prior to admission may influence sensitivity patterns. This information underscores the importance of judicious antibiotic prescribing practices to ensure optimal therapeutic outcomes in pediatric enteric fever cases. \u0000; , , \u0000
