Among the main purposes of the program, it seeks to encourage the advance of environmental habits in public officials through environmental education. [Objective]: To determine if the educational and communicational campaigns promoted by the program have generated changes in the environmental habits and behaviors of civil servants. [Methodology]: The combined method was used, and for this purpose a survey was designed, on a universe of 25 000 employees obtaining a sample of 270 cases, with a confidence level of 90 % and an error level of 5 %. In addition, 15 in-depth interviews were conducted. The results were analyzed separately and then a cross analysis was developed. [Results]: Officials recognize changes in habits favorable to environmental care in their institutions, although these are not generalized. [Conclusions]: While the Green State accreditation program does induce changes in habits and behaviors among public employees, it requires additional reinforcement in the promotion of its educational strategies and modifications in certain requirements to fully achieve its goal in non-formal environmental education. Furthermore, the findings may be useful for Latin American States to adopt pro-environmental actions in the administrative functioning of their public institutions..","PeriodicalId":513845,"journal":{"name":"Revista de Ciencias Ambientales","volume":"59 10","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141338872","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This relationship is crucial for conservation and sustainable development in Latin America, given the diversity of landscapes, from tropical forests to snow-capped mountains and deserts, which harbor a unique wealth of biodiversity and ecological functions. The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between LHI and ES. [Methodology]: Fourteen landscape heterogeneity indices and seven ecosystem services were calculated in Santa María Huatulco, Oaxaca, and related to the estimated ecosystem services for the same area. [Results]: The models showed a statistically significant relationship between LHI and ES, suggesting that certain LHI can influence the provision and distribution of ES. The Amazon was the focus of attention due to its global importance as the largest watershed and the most extensive and diverse tropical forest on the planet. The Summit highlighted the importance of strengthening OTCA as the only intergovernmental coordination mechanism to implement the agreed presidential agenda. The Belém Declaration established priorities for effective regional cooperation, including sustainability, environmental preservation, and inclusive development. The challenges to be faced include the efficient management of OTCA, the improvement of governance and positioning as a center for regional and international technical and political cooperation. In Costa Rica, the payment for environmental services (PSA) represents a mechanism to protect forests on private farms, but it lacks specific indicators on the state of biodiversity and forest conservation. [Objective]: To analyze the use of acoustic monitoring for ecosystem assessment at 11 sites in the Osa Peninsula, nine on private farms, and two sites within Corcovado National Park. [Methods]: Soundscapes were recorded from May 25 to June 1, 2021, using acoustic recorders. It was analyzed the behavior of six acoustic indices at each sampling site and applied an automated detection analysis of vocalizations of two representative bird species of the area. [Results]: It was found that the most fragmented sites presented higher activity, energy, and acoustic diversity, possibly due to edge effects and ecotones present, as well as a high forest component in the surrounding matrix. Automated vocalization detection indicated that the species Hylopezus perspicillatus turned out to be more sensitive to differences in the landscape than Trogon bairdii. [Conclusions]: The use of acoustic indices, although it associates features of the degree of conservation, was not a differentiating element of the quality of the ecosystem in the evaluated farms. The monitoring ofspecies through the detection of their vocalizations was promising.
