Case Studies from the Viadrina Collection Held in the Music Department at University of Warsaw Library","authors":"Antonio Chemotti","doi":"10.36744/m.2697","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.36744/m.2697","url":null,"abstract":"The Music Department at University of Warsaw Library houses a corpus of musical sources originating from the library of Viadrina University in Frankfurt an der Oder, predominantly comprising musical prints from the late sixteenth to early seventeenth century. The present article offers an overview and inventory of this corpus. Furthermore, it delves into four case studies, examining sources with annotations containing personal names. These annotations provide insights into the social context surrounding these sources, contributing both to the study of the musical culture of early modern Central European universities, and to the investigation of annotations in music books.","PeriodicalId":511716,"journal":{"name":"Muzyka","volume":" 10","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141833506","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The characteristics of this collection – to which external sources such as period newspapers are added – prompt reflections on the different roles played by the Grimani as a collector, without however neglecting the investigation of the fortune and historicization of certain authors and specific opera pieces.","PeriodicalId":511716,"journal":{"name":"Muzyka","volume":" 21","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141832663","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, archives also contain much information about music in places that were geographically or administratively less central. Such places often render valuable information about musical education. The chapters in the book reviewed here present case-studies in musical education from the late Middle Ages until the early modern period. Many focus on the city and province of Padua, while others examine music education in German universities, Parisian parish schools, and French riding academies.","PeriodicalId":511716,"journal":{"name":"Muzyka","volume":" 13","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141833094","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Also destroyed was the manuscript of keyboard tablature from the Holy Spirit Monastery in Kraków (TKD). Access to its content was only possible through microfilm at Harvard Library. As a result of my query at the Staatliches Institut für Musikforschung Preußischer Kulturbesitz in Berlin, it was found that a copy of TKD was also made in this institution. These are photographs that significantly supplement the existing information about its musical and provenance contents, including its belonging to the Aleksander Poliński collection.","PeriodicalId":511716,"journal":{"name":"Muzyka","volume":"140 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141834505","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Zgadzając się z tą konstatacją, wyjaśniam powody, dla których podtrzymuję wcześniejszą tezę (Muzyka 2023 nr 3), że utworu tego nie napisał Michał Kleofas Ogiński. Jednym z argumentów przeciwko jego autorstwu jest to, że polonez a-moll odbiega pod względem struktury od innych kompozycji tego gatunku przezeń napisanych.","PeriodicalId":511716,"journal":{"name":"Muzyka","volume":"171 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141834488","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

W artykule zwrócono uwagę na kilka wątków, które pojawiły się w relacji, naświetlając pokrótce tło, które może dodatkowo pomóc podczas ich lektury. Both the project itself (which aims to reach a general audience) and the stories it tells (of émigré artists who left Poland during the turbulent twentieth century) represent the movement of culture across borders. The conveners seek to reintroduce oft-omitted émigré artists into the canons of Polish national music history. In so doing, the volume serves as a successful and useful tool, introducing readers to new repertoire and inviting them to pose complex questions about the various motivations and effects of artists’ cultural mobility.","PeriodicalId":511716,"journal":{"name":"Muzyka","volume":"84 s1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141834537","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
