The present study investigates the proximate chemical composition of two invasive species (Siganus rivulatus and Siganus luridus) and the native Sciaena umbra along the western coast of Tobruk, Libya. Fifteen samples were analyzed for moisture, protein, lipid, ash, and carbohydrate content. The results showed significant interspecific variability, with S. umbra with the highest protein (17.67%) and ash (1.11%) and the lowest carbohydrate (2.72%), which are reflective of its carnivorous/omnivorous feeding. S. rivulatus and S. luridus, on the other hand, had higher carbohydrate (5.14–5.54%) and comparatively higher fat, which are reflective of their herbivorous feeding. Discriminant function analysis (DFA) correctly assigned 93.3% of species as native or invasive. These findings highlight the invasive species' trophic impacts and provide baseline data for biodiversity conservation and fisheries management in the eastern Mediterranean.","PeriodicalId":511303,"journal":{"name":"AlQalam Journal of Medical and Applied Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":"1872-1878"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://journal.utripoli.edu.ly/index.php/Alqalam/article/download/1084/893","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147910762","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Its pH ranges between (9.45 - 10.31 pH), meaning that the lake water is alkaline. Total dissolved salts (TDC) were estimated at (90.59-115.28 mg/L), which made dissolved oxygen relatively low (5.08 - 6.88 mg/L). The results also showed that the lake water contained a high concentration of SiO3 (3.46-6.91 mg/L), as well as nutrients. The concentration of NO3 (316.67 – 408.33 mg/L) and PO4 (17.83 – 72 mg/L) was. The study also recorded the presence of a very weak plant diversity, represented by the presence of the reed swamp plant, Phragmite australis, which is considered the most dominant species around the lake, which gives a clear indication of its presence in the reed swamp stage. As for the Cyperus Laevigatus plant, its presence indicates the presence of the sedgem eadow stage of ecological succession, while the presence of the tamarisk plant, Tamarix aphylla, indicates the presence of the shrubby stage of ecological succession. It is clear from the results of a study that the continued increase in plant growth creates an environmental habitat that allows the emergence of biodiversity for different animal species, such as insects, spiders, and birds. Human activities also have an impact on the development of the succession process in the lake. All of these indicators indicate the development and continuation of the ecological succession process in the lake and contribute to its extinction.","PeriodicalId":511303,"journal":{"name":"AlQalam Journal of Medical and Applied Sciences","volume":"46 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-08-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141927064","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Also, this could be due to the emergence of Multidrug resistance (MDR) Extended Spectrum Beta Lactamase (ESBL) and carbapenemase-producing strains. This study's main goals were to evaluate the prevalence of resistance demonstrated by K. pneumoniae strains found in clinical samples from Benghazi Medical Center and AL-jalaa Hospital and to find evidence of ESBL strains and their resistance to certain antibiotic. During the study period, K. pneumoniae was isolated from 320 clinical samples (urine, sputum, blood and wound). The procedure for processing of samples, identification, susceptibility toward antimicrobials and evidence of ESBL, MBL strains were carried out according to the recommended standards. PCR was used to detect β-Lactamase and carbapenemase resistance genes. From a total K. pneumoniae isolates, 120 (37.5%) were isolated from hospital patients. The isolates exhibited high resistance to all used antibiotics. Forty-eight (40%) of the isolates were ESBL producers. MDR and XDR were identified in 89% and 56% of isolates respectively. ESBL-CTX-M-15 gene and OXA-48 were detected in all isolates. Moreover, SHV and NDM were identified in four isolates. In this study shows the high rate of MDR in clinical K. pneumoniae isolates in hospitals. There is an urgent need to implement an antibiotic resistance surveillance system to regulate and continuously monitor the emergence of antimicrobial resistance.","PeriodicalId":511303,"journal":{"name":"AlQalam Journal of Medical and Applied Sciences","volume":"9 10","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141804372","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We used various physical and spectroscopic methods to characterize the compound and its metal complexes, including molar conductivity measurements, melting point analysis, elemental analysis, electronic absorption spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, magnetic resonance spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis. The octahedral geometry of all prepared complexes has been confirmed. To assess the antimicrobial activity, we examined two types of bacterial strains and two types of fungal strains. The antimicrobial activity of the prepared compounds was observed, and the higher increase was observed in the copper complex. The compounds were studied computationally after optimizing the angles, lengths, and bonds using the basic set 6-31G(d,p)/LANL2DZ. The molecular docking study of the compounds with the Alzheimer's disease protein 4BDT showed significant activity in binding to the amino acids of HL, C1, C2, C3, C4, and C5 compounds, with affinity energies of -6.4, -6.9, -6.9, -6.7, and -7.2 kcal.mol-1 for the compounds, respectively. To evaluate the safety of the prepared compounds in different drug designs, we employed the ADMET study, reducing the risk of failure in advanced drug design stages. The results of the ADMET showed a relative decrease in the toxicity and carcinogenicity factor. However, there are indications of metabolic risk and cellular uptake, requiring further study.","PeriodicalId":511303,"journal":{"name":"AlQalam Journal of Medical and Applied Sciences","volume":"99 13","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141818675","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Despite an increasing body of evidence about the effects of chromium exposure on human health, there is still a lack of agreement regarding semen quality. The incredibly lively and stimulating moringaoleifer (MO) is one of the first extensively dispersed species of the Moringaceae family. Due to its many health benefits, it has been highly respected since ancient times. Every portion of the tree has high alimentary properties, making it suitable for use in both commercial and nutritional contexts. This study's goal was to ascertain how feeding moringa oléifera leaves 'MO' to rabbits under heat stress could lessen the toxicity of potassium dichromate Cr'VI' and improve their ability to reproduce. The animals were divided into 4 groups: 400 mg 'MO'/kg bw, 5 mg Cr'VI'l/kg bw, 400 mg 'MO'/kg bw, and Cr'VI' (5 mg/kg bw) plus 'MO' (400 mg/kg bw). Results demonstrated that Cr'VI' treatment reduced (P<0.05) sperm motility index, sperm concentration, ejaculate volume, and semen beginning fructose content. There was a dose-dependent negative relationship between Cr'VI' and semen characteristics. Treatment with Cr'VI' led to a dose-dependent increase (P<0.05) in the number of aberrant and dead sperm. During treatment, treatment with, moringa oleifera 'MO' reduced the adverse effects of Cr'VI'. The outcomes showed that MO had a positive impact on mitigating the detrimental effects of Cr'VI' on male rabbit fertility and productivity. These results provide credence to the possibility of using moringa oleifera as a natural dietary supplement to improve reproductive health in stressed-out rabbits kept These findings support the use of moringa oleifera as a natural dietary supplement to enhance reproductive health in anxious rabbits housed in harsh conditions or near pollutants.","PeriodicalId":511303,"journal":{"name":"AlQalam Journal of Medical and Applied Sciences","volume":"36 12","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141819470","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The majority of patients worry about a root canal because they don't know much about it and believe the procedure will is painful. The aim of this study was to assess the knowledge and awareness of patients in a sample of Tripoli Libya’s patients regarding root canal treatment. A Questionnaire comprised 19 questions was distributed in hard copies to 134 patients in public and private dental centers in Tripoli, Libya. The data were then subjected to statistical analysis using Chi square test and Fisher exact test, and P < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. The survey found that 79.9% of patients were familiar with root canal treatment and a significant proportion of patients (80.6%) thought the therapy was necessary for treating tooth pain. There have been statistically significant results linking endodontic professionals' experiences with different age groups. Similarly, a significant connection has been shown between patient' knowledge about root endodontic therapy and their level of education. Additionally, women's decisions to receive treatment are significantly influenced by the cost of treatment. According to our study, it was clear that most of the people had good knowledge and awareness regarding root canal treatment, but they felt it was costly. A general dentist was the first choice for the majority of patients. The cost associated with treatment was a serious barrier to obtaining treatment, especially among women.","PeriodicalId":511303,"journal":{"name":"AlQalam Journal of Medical and Applied Sciences","volume":" 9","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141822938","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
