The aim of the work was to identify the causes of accidents that nursing professionals are involved in due to the inadequate disposal of sharps. The methodological path was based on an integrative review, with a search in the Virtual Health Library over the last 5 years. Accidents with sharps are currently high-risk devices for the nursing team and the main factors for accidents are: long working hours, distraction during the work shift and frequent handling of sharps. It was concluded that the majority of accidents with sharps occur in the nursing team, with a prevalence among females, in the emergency room, medical and surgical clinic, ICU, CME and surgical center sectors and problems in the institution's infrastructure as well as underreporting by injured professionals.","PeriodicalId":510700,"journal":{"name":"Revista Científica Faesa","volume":"17 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141795251","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Studies on the use of laser have gained more evidence. This study aims to describe, through a bibliographic survey, the method of removing laminates and veneers, presenting the method using the laser. In addition to highlighting its indications, mechanisms and pointing out advantages and disadvantages. For this, articles in the PubMed database were consulted. Some factors such as fracture, dissatisfaction with the color, marginal failure and aesthetic reasons make it necessary to change these patient's ceramics. Although the more conventional method of removal is highly successful, rotary instruments can cause scratching and overheating of the enamel, or a high level of wear. An important result is that the use of laser is considered the most conservative method due to the fact of its good absorption of water and OH groups in hydroxyapatite, this laser is useful in the removal of dental hard tissues. With this, the tooth structure is preserved, in addition to better comfort for the patient and being a less time-consuming procedure.","PeriodicalId":510700,"journal":{"name":"Revista Científica Faesa","volume":"14 10","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141795474","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

From this, the different materials that will be used if there is a need to place a pin comes into debate, and it is necessary to evaluate several factors such as the amount of coronary remnant. In this review, direct and indirect retainer techniques will be discussed with the main focus on the most used ones, which are fiberglass posts. One of the treatment stages, endodontic access involves removing carious tissue to reach the pulp cavity and prepare the root canals. The emerging approach of minimally invasive endodontics aims to preserve dentin to the maximum extent, including different types of accesses such as traditional, conservative, and ultraconservative. The traditional approach causes more dental wear, as it involves removing the roof of the pulp chamber, while the minimally invasive approach faces challenges such as canal visualization and disinfection, often requiring microscopes, ultrasound, or other technologies. The study aimed to review the literature to clarify the challenges and technological dependence of minimally invasive accesses, utilizing articles from databases such as PubMed, Bireme, and SciELO from the last 13 years (2010-2023). Inclusion criteria comprised literature reviews, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, in vitro studies, case studies, master's dissertations, and doctoral theses, while exclusion criteria included articles outside the temporal range, undergraduate theses, monographs, articles not available in full, and those not related to the theme. The comparison between minimally invasive and traditional access cavities reveals conflicting results. Some studies suggest that minimally invasive accesses do not increase fracture resistance, while others indicate benefits. The detection of root canals is challenging in the use of minimally invasive access, and the use of auxiliary technologies can improve the effectiveness of the conservative approach.","PeriodicalId":510700,"journal":{"name":"Revista Científica Faesa","volume":"24 6","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141795349","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In parallel, apical periodontitis (AP) is a progressive condition affecting the tissues around the root of the tooth, primarily triggered by bacterial infections of the pulp tissue. Twenty-four of the most cited articles between 2013 and 2023 were selected through searches on Web of Science and PubMed, addressing the bidirectional association between periodontitis and diabetes, encompassing all types of studies, with at least 15 citations discussing different aspects of this relationship and providing evidence. Chronic inflammation in DM can compromise tissue repair and increase the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, contributing to the progression of AP. Additionally, AP can influence serum levels of triglycerides and creatinine, increasing the risk of cardiovascular and renal diseases in DM patients. The dysregulated immune response observed in patients with DM and AP can exacerbate inflammation and tissue damage. In summary, DM influences AP by increasing levels of triglycerides, inflammatory cells, creatinine, and pro-inflammatory cytokines, while decreasing macrophage growth factors, resulting in compromised immune response and delayed wound healing. However, further research is needed to fully elucidate this complex interaction.","PeriodicalId":510700,"journal":{"name":"Revista Científica Faesa","volume":"9 5","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141795881","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Materials and methods: The searches took place in three databases: Cochrane, Scielo, and Pubmed. Three reviewers performed the selection, data extraction, and quality and risk of bias assessments independently. The initial search identified 7858 articles, of which 31 were initially included, following the inclusion and exclusion criteria. After reading these studies, 16 articles were excluded, totaling 15 articles included. Results: Most authors point out that digital flow reduced the clinical time compared to the conventional one, in addition to the fact that most of the included articles used scanning as a technology, emphasizing better recording of details. As a counterpoint, they consider the commercial value to be more expensive. In terms of the risk of bias, the factors that had the highest score were the absence of sample calculation and information on operator calibration. Conclusion: Such technologies improve the clinical routine of the dental surgeon; the main technologies reported were scanners, printers, and milling machines, indicating that this area is of great scientific and commercial interest; however, it is a very young area in dentistry that needs more research.","PeriodicalId":510700,"journal":{"name":"Revista Científica Faesa","volume":"20 12","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141795558","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
