We conducted several computer experiments\u0000on 107 primary electrons with an energy of 25 MeV. The analysis of the obtained data showed that the graphite neutron reflector is also an effective reflector of low-energy gamma quanta (Eγ < 1 MeV), its presence increased the flow of gamma quanta of these energies at the small detector by 30%. At the same time, lead protection reduced the\u0000gamma background on the samples and in the bunker by more than 20 times. The performed calculations proved that lead shielding with a thickness of 5 cm is sufficiently effective for conducting experiments on neutron programs at primary electron energies of 25 MeV.","PeriodicalId":510408,"journal":{"name":"Problems of Atomic Science and Technology","volume":" 8","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141363837","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Free electron lasers and particle colliders, using plasma wakefield accelerators, require high efficiency and beams with low energy spread. In this paper, we investigated by numerical simulation the focusing of Gaussiankind bunches by a passive plasma lens depending on their length. We have shown that for a homogeneous focusing field and to prevent loss of energy from bunches, the presence of an electron bunch-precursor is necessary. This plasma lens decreases the energy spread of bunches, since the first front of the bunch, which is of more energy, is in decelerating field, and its back front, which is of smaller energy, is in accelerating field. In addition, we investigated the evolution of the bunches with time to visually demonstrate the effect of the plasma lens in the wakefield accelerator.","PeriodicalId":510408,"journal":{"name":"Problems of Atomic Science and Technology","volume":"114 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141362770","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
