Originally from Poznan in present-day Poland, Jolowicz had gained his initial professional experience in the German Empire before serving as a neurologist at the Western Front during the First World War. After the war, he opened a private psychotherapeutic practice in Leipzig, published numerous scientific papers and was involved in the General Medical Society for Psychotherapy. In his writings, Jolowicz appeared as an undogmatic adherent of suggestive techniques and came up with his own methods for a patient-centered, psychagogic psychotherapy. In addition, he wrote numerous cultural and social scientific essays showing a wide range of interest. Shortly after the seizure of power by the National Socialists, he emigrated to Paris and supported the anti-fascist resistance in a Strasbourg radio station. After the occupation of France, Jolowicz fled to the United States in 1941 and gained a foothold there once more before he died of a heart disease in New York City in 1958.
","PeriodicalId":509563,"journal":{"name":"Fortschritte der Neurologie · Psychiatrie","volume":" ","pages":"580-588"},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2022-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"39389190","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Particularly, patients with central neurological diseases (e. g., Parkinson's disease, cerebellar disorders) fall more often and more severe compared to patients with peripheral neurological disorders (e. g., peripheral neuropathy, bilateral vestibulopathy). Falls can lead to severe injuries with prolonged hospital treatment with subsequently impaired mobility, reduced quality of life and fear of falling. This article depicts general, clinical and mobility-based fall risk factors in neurogeriatric patients and gives an overview how to identify patients with a high risk of falling. Furthermore, a multimodal fall risk assessment is illustrated, which expands the diagnostic approach utilising clinical, instrument-based and mobile motion analysis.
","PeriodicalId":509563,"journal":{"name":"Fortschritte der Neurologie · Psychiatrie","volume":" ","pages":"589-599"},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2022-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"40559017","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Basic data on this are lacking so far. The problem is discussed against the background of a current expert opinion case. Meta analyses show significant relationships between traumatic experiences in childhood and psychotic disorders. Patients with schizophrenia as well as those with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are characterized by brain morphological changes (mygdala und Hippocampus). In these two patient groups, neuroendocrinological disturbances (cortisol und α-amylase) as well as a worse clinical outcome could be additionally found. In the psychodynamic theoretical discussion, there are only few approaches concerning trauma and psychosis. Specifically here, the name of Frieda Fromm-Reichmann should be noted, who already pointed out the great meaning of child traumatization (especially physical and sexual abuse) for the later manifestation of schizophrenia. She also developed first principles of analytic psychosis therapy with the working on the deep life anxiety caused by the trauma in the here and now of the transference situation. It is assumed that schizophrenic disorders and PTSD have to be understood as trauma consequence diseases, which occur in comorbidty in a so far unknown extent.
","PeriodicalId":509563,"journal":{"name":"Fortschritte der Neurologie · Psychiatrie","volume":" ","pages":"512-522"},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2022-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"39308163","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The course of the disease is progressive, the phenotype varies within a disease continuum and is mainly determined by the SMN2 copy number. So far, three disease modifying treatments (Nusinersen/Spinraza, Onasemnogene abeparvovec/Zolgensma, Risdiplam/Evrysdi) have been approved; however, gene replacement therapy with Onasemnogen abeparvovec is mainly applied from birth to toddler age. SMA treatment requires a multidisciplinary management in specialized neuromuscular centers. Since October 2021, SMA is part of the newborn screening in Germany. When SMA is clinically suspected, timely genetic diagnostics is crucial for a rapid start of treatment, since \"time is motor neuron\". The different therapeutic options must be discussed with patients and families, and patient expectations must be managed.
