Their bulk mineral composition with dominant K-feldspar (40%), plagioclase (30%), quartz (25%) and mica (≤ 5%) is complemented by (REE+Y)-bearing association of primary and secondary accessories. Zircon, monazite, xenotime, scarce apatite and noticeable amount of garnet are among the pegmatite primary minerals. The cm-sized almandine-spessartine crystals contain numerous fractures which host secondary (REE+Y)-bearing phosphate (xenotime, cheralite) and silicate minerals (e.g. REE-epidote). Formation of the late-stage REE-mineralization in garnet is due to its hydrothermal alteration and redistribution of REE+Y in the secondary phases.","PeriodicalId":509487,"journal":{"name":"Review of the Bulgarian Geological Society","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139188885","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The station is operating in the Faculty of Physics since September 2023. The equipment consists of a seismometer Geophone 4.5 Hz and a digitiser PSN-ADC24. A portable computer is used for data recording and archiving. During the month of station operation several earthquakes in Bulgaria and neighbouring countries were analysed. The spectrum of the seismic noise from the station was analysed for different periods. The characteristics of the terrain of station installation were also determined using the method H/V. Although the equipment has modest capabilities, it allows students and young scientists to work directly with the seismic equipment and to do scientific investigations. The possibility of scientific research will be expanded renewing the equipment (purchased in October 2023).","PeriodicalId":509487,"journal":{"name":"Review of the Bulgarian Geological Society","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139190729","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Various methodologies, including field analysis, remote sensing, and GIS tools, were employed to analyze the disaster’s causes and field conditions. Active sediment sources, deposition patterns, and mapping techniques were used to document the disaster’s impact. The results showed that the disaster resulted from the formation of numerous landslides, and rapid hydrological response led to riverine flooding, high-speed flows, and sediment deposition. An important contribution of this study is the generated landslide inventory map, that can be used for mountain road reconstruction and the planning of mitigation measures.","PeriodicalId":509487,"journal":{"name":"Review of the Bulgarian Geological Society","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139190875","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Mercury data on geologic materials are important for characterizing the main sources and sinks of Hg, for tracking volcanic activity in the geology past, for refining regional and global stratigraphic correlations, and for minimizing anthropogenic mercury emissions. Newly obtained Hg and CHNS analyzers available at the Geological Institute at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, facilitate new geologic and environmental research in Bulgaria. Here we show initial results for the accuracy and precision of our Hg analyses based on repeated measurements of certified reference material NIST 2702 and identify avenues for further analytical improvements. The encouraging results allow for the initiation of diverse geological and ecological studies that are needed, but currently lacking in Bulgaria.","PeriodicalId":509487,"journal":{"name":"Review of the Bulgarian Geological Society","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139194282","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Their formation is due to the oxidation of arsenopyrite, which is abundant in the samples. The composition of the picropharmacolite from Mareshnitsa differs from the picropharmacolite from other deposits around the world. It is characterized by relatively few impurities and excess of Mg, which substitute part of Ca. This is resulting in smaller a parameter of the unit cell. The presence of these two new arsenic minerals sheds additional light on the behaviour of arsenic in the area.","PeriodicalId":509487,"journal":{"name":"Review of the Bulgarian Geological Society","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139191339","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The resulting photographs and movies contribute to solving problems related to the study and assessment of the condition of water supply wells, as well as to obtain a clear picture on the assessment of rock massifs for their suitability for various types of construction. Borehole cameras on the territory of our country are more widely used in the field of hydrogeology compared to engineering geology. The purpose of this article is to present the possible applications of this technology, which has been improved over the years, for the study of rock massifs in their study for various infrastructure objects. Also. to shed light on the benefits of using boreholes in surveying the various water sources.","PeriodicalId":509487,"journal":{"name":"Review of the Bulgarian Geological Society","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139191350","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
