The formula is based on the Epstein layer and depends on the O and H scale heights and the OH transition level. Both scale heights have a ratio 1:16 reduced by a factor representing the change from magnetic field line direction to vertical direction. The bottom-side part of TEC (calculated by using foF2, M3000F2 and foE measurements) is subtracted from the GPSderived TEC at the same location. The topside TEC, together with the empirically obtained O-H transition level, are then used to deduce the unknown scale heights. The method is demonstrated on actual data covering low and high solar activity conditions.","PeriodicalId":50900,"journal":{"name":"Acta Geodaetica et Geophysica Hungarica","volume":"37 1","pages":"171-181"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2002-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67074989","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The test measurements were carried out on the Mokattam plateau at Cairo (Egypt). Direction, length of the layout and the profile length all were very limited, since the measurements had to be carried out within a narrow (2-10 m wide) stripe, between a built-in area and a cleft rim. Interpretation of field measurements was supported by (1) analogue model experiments, and (2) parameter sensitivity maps. As it was found from laboratory experiments, fissures are indicated by potential-difference maximums along profiles measured by using three-electrode array (if the reference point is between the potential electrodes). The mean distance between two neighbouring maximums throughout the whole profile was found to be about 3-4 m, corresponding to the distance between the most visible fissures on the cleft wall. The Schlumberger null-array has been found to be an appropria...","PeriodicalId":50900,"journal":{"name":"Acta Geodaetica et Geophysica Hungarica","volume":"36 1","pages":"285-296"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2001-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67074583","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
