Fetters—a giant in the world of mixed methods research, an exceptional researcher and scholar, a professor of family medicine, a caring and beloved family physician, a lifelong learner, a colleague, a mentor, a steadfast advocate, a son, a sibling, a husband, a father, and, above all, a dear friend to everyone who knew him. Inspired by Professor Fetters’s innovation, we offer an expanded definition of autoethnography through the formal introduction of the 10 dimensions of autoethnography, as well as the debut of mixed methods autoethnography and of integrated mixed methods autoethnography. An autoethnographic narrative writing style honors both the research genre and the mixed methods researchers’ voices.","PeriodicalId":508708,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Mixed Methods Research","volume":" 25","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141372436","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To demonstrate the inherently mixed data collection within Q methodology (Q-technique), we start by generating a concourse of subjective statements with ChatGPT. A structured Q-sample is selected from the concourse using Fisher’s Design of Experiments which came from agricultural research and involves small sample theory and variance design. The process of the Q-sort involves each participant placing the Q-sample’s numbered subjective items into a continuum (grid) of Most Like to Most Unlike their view on the topic. Thus, the participants transform the subjective statements into a qualitative–quantitative hybrid representation of their inner subjectivity. The contribution to MMR is continuing the dialogue for integrated data collection via a specific example.","PeriodicalId":508708,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Mixed Methods Research","volume":"80 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141378111","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article describes novel refining strategies that enhance the linkage between qualitative and quantitative dimensions of a mixed methods healthcare delivery research study. Leveraging our study experiences, this paper demonstrates several refining strategies: (1) using mediated allocation concealment to facilitate qualitative sampling; (2) informing qualitative inquiry through quantitative analytics; and (3) training and immersing multidisciplinary researchers in qualitative data collection and analysis. Developing and implementing strategies in mixed methods healthcare delivery research could advance methodological rigor and strengthen multidisciplinary collaboration.","PeriodicalId":508708,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Mixed Methods Research","volume":"16 17","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141378999","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While mixed methods show great potential in understanding the active nature of children’s interaction, only a few studies have developed mixed methods for video-based interaction research. This paper presents a mixed methods embodied interaction model appropriate for studying complex embodied interaction and draws on methodological insights from a mixed methods project to capture changes in children’s interaction with touchscreen technologies. The paper details how integrated mixed methods analysis was needed to fully explain the results and how mono-method studies would provide misleading results. The theoretical advancements generated during the project illustrate how mixed methods for video-based studies have valuable properties for understanding complex interactional phenomena, such as learning.","PeriodicalId":508708,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Mixed Methods Research","volume":"5 24","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139148681","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It follows a three-phased sequential mixed methods design to identify disparities between testimonies of former detainees and interrogators and to examine how different methods complement each other for a comprehensive perspective on witness accounts. This includes training a natural language processing (NLP) model, sentiment analysis (SA), and qualitative content analysis (QCA). The qualitative and NLP-based analyses showed apparent differences between witness groups; a significant difference in sentiment values could not be detected. This study presents the first mixed methods approach based on court transcripts in genocide research. Its digital approach contributes to mixed methods research (MMR) by showing how NLP and data transformation can contribute to integration.","PeriodicalId":508708,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Mixed Methods Research","volume":"191 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139210806","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
