This study aimed to evaluate the structure and functions of student councils in secondary schools in Kericho County, Kenya, based on the functionalism theory. The evaluation research design was employed, targeting students, teachers, and school principals, school boards of management, County director of education, and sub-county directors of education in Kericho County. A combination of probability and non-probability sampling techniques was used to select 568 respondents, including 384 students, 120 teachers, and various school administrators. Data was collected through questionnaires, interviews, and focus group discussions. Quantitative data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, presenting frequencies, percentages, mean, and standard deviation. Qualitative data was analyzed through data coding and narrative analysis, presented using graphs, charts, and tables. Results showed that 81% of respondents indicated the student council was elected by students, although the administration had significant input. Only 16% agreed that there was no administration interference in the council formation process. Most student councils (47%) comprised 21-40 prefects, with only a few (10%) having 1-20 students. Regarding effectiveness, 68% of respondents were comfortable with the council's performance, while 20% believed it was too large to be effective, and 12% considered it too small. In conclusion, the student council structure allows for effective discipline management and conflict resolution. However, the administration's influence in council formation affects its perceived efficacy, leading to student perception of loyalty to the administration. The study recommends government intervention to limit administrative interference in student council formation, fostering true democratic processes in school governance.","PeriodicalId":508465,"journal":{"name":"SCIENCE MUNDI","volume":"23 103","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140734792","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Deaths from EVD occur yearly but naturally peak during the dry season. The average EVD fatality rate is approximated at 50%. Studies done on the dynamics of EVD transmission have not captured the differential infectivity aspects of the disease. In this work, a nonlinear differential infectivity model with variation in infectiousness that captures the dynamics of EVD to assess the role of varied infectivity on EVD with possible intervention measures is formulated. Stability analysis of the model shows that the model is conditionally locally and globally stable. The model is also shown to exhibit hopf bifurcation, which shows that the transmission dynamics of the disease are periodic in nature. Numerical simulation results showed that intervention measures to control the disease is more efficient at the onset of the infection to reduce the spread of the disease. The findings are significant in designing intervention measures aimed at reducing infections.","PeriodicalId":508465,"journal":{"name":"SCIENCE MUNDI","volume":"194 12","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139205232","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study of n for which n = x2 +y2 + z2 is a very long-standing problem. Recent survey of sizeable literature shows that many researchers have made some progress to come up with algorithms of decomposing integers into sums of three squares. On the other hand, available results on integer representation as sums of three square is still very minimal. If a,b,c,d,k,m,n,u,v and w are any non-negative integers, this study determines the sum of three-square formula of the form abcd+ka2+ma+n = u2 +v2 +w2 and establishes its applications to various cases.","PeriodicalId":508465,"journal":{"name":"SCIENCE MUNDI","volume":"69 9","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139206852","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study adopted a mixed-methods research. The target population included 916 learners enrolled in bachelor of education programs, with a representative sample of 180 students selected. A structured survey questionnaire was utilized to collect data. Open-ended survey questions provided qualitative insights, enriching the data. The qualitative data were analyzed thematically. Descriptive statistics were employed to summarize the quantitative data, providing a clear overview of learners' perceptions and responses.  Hierarchical regression analysis was used to test this hypothesis. The findings suggest that learner diversity does not significantly alter the relationship between institutional readiness and learner engagement. While institutional readiness remains a robust predictor of participation (Model 1: β = 0.920, t = 31.226, p < 0.05), the introduction of the moderating variable in Model 2 leads to diminished individual significance for both institutional readiness and the moderating variable. However, Model 3 unveils a nuanced landscape, emphasizing the critical role of the interaction term. The substantial impact of the interaction term (β = -8.392, t = -12.019, p < 0.05) underscores the intricate interplay between institutional readiness and learner diversity. This study emphasizes the importance of prioritizing institutional readiness to enhance learner participation in distance learning, acknowledging the subtle yet influential role of learner diversity in shaping this relationship. Future research could delve deeper into the specific mechanisms through which learner diversity interacts with institutional readiness to influence participation. To enhance distance learning in Kenya, it is recommended to strengthen institutional readiness by investing in robust technological infrastructure. Continuous faculty training programs should be implemented to enhance digital teaching proficiency. Collaborative efforts among faculty members to improve online learning experiences should be encouraged. Equitable access to resources, particularly for diverse learners, must be ensured to promote inclusivity. Policymakers should prioritize these measures, emphasizing the significance of a well-prepared institutional environment for effective and equitable distance education in Kenya.","PeriodicalId":508465,"journal":{"name":"SCIENCE MUNDI","volume":"288 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139234970","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
