Transgender is someone who changes or switches gender from their original gender. This transgender phenomenon is considered deviant because it changes what God has created and violates His nature. The purpose of this paper is to find out the arguments and interpetations regarding this transgender phenomenon by using analysis of maqāṣidi interpretation studies initiates by Abdul Mustaqim and using library research by analyzing Al-Qur’an surat An-Nisa verse 119 and ar-Rum verse 30. There are many reasons for the prohibition of this transgender behavior, interpreters say that transgender phenomenon has violated human nature. By using maqāṣidi interpretation, the prohibition is not only based on the meaning if the text, but if reviewed from the maqashidi, the wisdom of this transgender phenomenon will be found, namely hifz al-din, hifz al-nasl, hifz al-nafs, hifz al-‘aql, dan hifz al-daulah.","PeriodicalId":508062,"journal":{"name":"QiST: Journal of Quran and Tafseer Studies","volume":" 97","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141128512","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Employing a hermeneutic approach to interpret Qur'anic verses, the study highlights the unique contributions of Islamic thought to the global discourse on consciousness. By juxtaposing Qur'anic teachings with contemporary philosophical and scientific theories of consciousness, this inquiry sheds light on the interplay between divine wisdom and human intellect in understanding the essence of consciousness. The research adopts a multidisciplinary methodology, integrating insights from Islamic theology, philosophy, psychology, and cognitive science to explore the Qur'anic conceptualization of consciousness. The analysis reveals that the Qur'an offers profound insights into the nature of consciousness, emphasizing its multifaceted dimensions, including self-awareness, perception, intentionality, and the soul's journey. Furthermore, the paper discusses the implications of the Qur'anic perspective on consciousness for ethical behavior, personal identity, and the pursuit of knowledge. It argues that the Qur'an advocates for a holistic understanding of consciousness that encompasses both physical and spiritual dimensions, encouraging a harmonious balance between material and transcendental aspects of human existence. The study concludes that exploring consciousness through the Qur'an enriches the philosophical inquiry into the nature of the mind and provides valuable ethical and spiritual insights. This interdisciplinary exploration contributes to bridging the gap between religious wisdom and contemporary scientific understanding, offering a nuanced perspective on one of human existence's most profound and complex phenomena.","PeriodicalId":508062,"journal":{"name":"QiST: Journal of Quran and Tafseer Studies","volume":"5 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141009001","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research reveals the history of Sufi interpretation and the essential differences between two styles of Sufi interpretation, namely nazharî and 'amalî Sufi interpretation by exploring the epistemology of Sufism in the interpretation process because the author highlights the inaccuracy of general understanding in detailing the fundamental differences between these two styles of Sufi interpretation. The aim of the research is to contribute to a deeper understanding of Sufi interpretation styles and help to detail fundamental differences in the context of Sufism epistemology. By using library research methods and a qualitative approach, the research results show that based on Sufism epistemology, the explanation of levels of meaning in Sufi interpretation is based on extracting meaning (the context of discovery) and explaining meaning (the context of justification). The distinction between the Sufi nazharî and 'amalî interpretation styles lies in the context of justification and the presence of esoteric and exoteric meanings. As for the context of discovery, both are based on mukâsyafah/sufi spiritual experience.","PeriodicalId":508062,"journal":{"name":"QiST: Journal of Quran and Tafseer Studies","volume":"72 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140225199","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Some commentaries demonstrate strong arguments, while others appear to be subjective and ambiguous. This article examines the thoughts of Quraish Shihab on the hijab verse and critically analyzes them. The research falls under the category of library research, utilizing a descriptive analysis method to explain research findings based on the study's focus with a critical analysis to produce objective results. The approach employed is content analysis. The primary sources for this research are the Tafsir Al-Mishbah and Jilbab Pakaian Wanita Muslimah. The research findings indicate: First, Quraish Shihab argues that wearing the hijab is not obligatory but merely a recommendation and is applicable only in the time of Prophet Muhammad. Scholars also do not agree on the limits of women's modesty, and the rules of the hijab are considered part of Arab cultural traditions, not applicable to other nations that do not wear the hijab. Second, Quraish Shihab's interpretation of the hijab verse lacks strong arguments in the context of Islamic studies. The wording of the command in the hijab verse is still regarded as an obligation and cannot be transformed into a recommendation due to the lack of supporting evidence. Scholars have unanimously agreed on the limits of women's modesty, from the top of the head to the tips of the toes, excluding the face and the palms of the hands. The law of the hijab remains in effect until the end of time, even though it was revealed under specific conditions and in specific regions, as Islam is considered a universal religion.","PeriodicalId":508062,"journal":{"name":"QiST: Journal of Quran and Tafseer Studies","volume":"26 31","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140225858","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The findings of the study showed that Aleudul العدول in the Qur'anic context is a phenomenon that reoccurs in many ayahs. The researcher selected one of the many: the Quranic Arabic Aleudul العدول in Ayah 33 of Surat al-Ahzab to explain the phenomenon and discuss it in detail. The study also showed that the Quranic Arabic Aleudul العدول came in the Qur'anic context to reveal the importance of the meaning to be explained in the context to which it is assigned. The foremost of the problems encountered by translators of the Holy Quran was the dearth of most exegesis relating to this recurring phenomenon in the Holy Qur'an. This is because exegesis is founded on the segmentation of the ayahs rather than a single ayah to determine their denotations and memorize the rulings from them only once.","PeriodicalId":508062,"journal":{"name":"QiST: Journal of Quran and Tafseer Studies","volume":"219 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140233490","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
