This can lead to various medical conditions, including acute pancreatitis. In cases of recurrence, it may progress to chronic pancreatitis. Cupping therapy, a traditional treatment practiced in numerous cultures worldwide, is utilized to address various medical conditions. This case report presents a 34-year-old male diagnosed with familial hypertriglyceridemia, subsequently developing chronic pancreatitis. During his last presentation with acute-on-chronic pancreatitis, his lipid profile revealed a notable reduction in serum triglycerides. Interestingly, this reduction coincided with the introduction of cupping therapy into his treatment regimen. Remarkably, following the initiation of cupping therapy, his hospital admissions for acute pancreatitis notably decreased. This case report highlights the potential impact of cupping therapy on familial hypertriglyceridemia, potentially mitigating the risk of acute pancreatitis. \u0000Keywords: Hyperlipidemia; Hypertriglyceridemia; Pancreatitis.

There are multiple techniques varying from transverse to longitudinal skin incision, from open to minimally invasive approach. Despite the preferred technique, it seems that there is a reported learning curve as with the majority of surgical procedures. The present technical note makes an effort to present a straightforward harvesting method of quadriceps tendon autograft with the use of a simple vaginal speculum and direct visualization with the scope. Our technique is minimally invasive, easily reproducible from every surgeon despite the level of experience, with short learning curve, requiring no additional cost or technical support during the procedure, while creating a stable working space with freedom of manipulation of the surgical instruments and arthroscope. \u0000Keywords: Anterior Cruciate Ligament; Knee; Arthroscopic Surgery; Quadriceps Muscle; Autografting.

This study aimed to determine the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of adult Omani patients with SCD attending a single tertiary center. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among patients with SCD from June to October 2022 at the Sultan Qaboos University Hospital. A validated Arabic version of the 36-Item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36) was used to assess HRQoL over eight domains. Results: A total of 235 patients with SCD participated in the study, of which the majority were female (74.9%) and 18–35 years of age (64.6%). The lowest HRQoL was reported for the domain of role limitations due to physical health (median score: 25.0; interquartile range [IQR]: 35.0), while the highest was seen for role limitations due to emotional problems (median score: 66.7, IQR: 100.0). Frequent SCD-related emergency department visits/hospital admissions and the adverse effect of SCD on patients’ social lives had a significant negative impact on SF-36 scores for all eight HRQoL domains (p ≤0.05). In addition, the impact of SCD on academic performance and a history of having been bullied due to SCD had a significant negative impact on SF-36 scores for several domains (p ≤0.05). Conclusion: Omani adult patients with SCD reported relatively poor HRQoL in several domains, with various factors found to have significant associations with poorer HRQoL. Healthcare providers and policy-makers should consider offering additional clinical, educational, and financial support to patients to enhance their HRQoL. \u0000Keywords: Sickle Cell Disease; Health-Related Quality of Life; Adults; Oman

Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted at the Sultan Qaboos University Hospital (SQUH) from August to October 2022. An electronic, self-administered questionnaire was used to gather data from 400 physicians across various SQUH departments. Results: A total of 89 physicians completed the questionnaire (response rate: 22.3%). Most (96.6%) recognised the need for additional training in the delivery of unpleasant health updates, with 78.7% expressing their willingness to undertake such training. However, 32.6% reported negative experiences due to improper delivery of bad news, with an equal proportion admitting to disclosing unpleasant updates to the patient’s family without their consent. The majority (86.5%) demonstrated a high level of overall adherence to the SPIKES protocol, with 59.6–85.4%, 12.4–34.8%, and 1.1–11.2% of physicians reported usually, sometimes, and never following specific steps of the protocol, respectively. Marital status (P = 0.015) and qualifications (P = 0.032) were the only variables to correlate with adherence level, with married physicians and those with board or fellowship certificates reporting significantly better adherence compared to their counterparts. Conclusion: Physicians in Oman encountered challenges in delivering unpleasant health updates, underscoring the interplay of cultural influences, training, and adherence to protocols. To address these challenges, targeted and frequent training programs are recommended, starting from undergraduate medical education and extending to continuous opportunities for physicians at various career levels. \u0000Keywords: Physician-Patient Relations; Truth Disclosure; Clinical Protocols; Communication; Empathy; Oman.

The present study compared the effects of Cuminum cyminum and nettle oral drops on the indicators of breast milk adequacy in lactating mothers. Methods: A triple-blind, randomized, controlled clinical trial was conducted on 117 lactating mothers with healthy 10-15 days infants who received cumin oral drops (n = 39), nettle oral drops (n = 39), or placebo (n = 39) from August 2020 to March 2021. Three study groups received 15 drops three times a day for four weeks. Infant weight, breastfeeding frequency, number of wet diapers, diaper weight and frequency of infant defecation were evaluated before and after the intervention. ANOVA and chi-square tests were carried out with SPSS software version 22. Results: At the beginning of the trial, there were no statistically significant differences between the three groups in infant weight (p = 0.891) breastfeeding frequency (p = 0.921), number of wet diapers (p = 0.783), diaper weight (p = 0.841) and frequency of infant defecation (p = 0.898) However, following the intervention, the mean scores of all the indicators were significantly more in the experimental groups than the placebo (p <0.001). In addition, all the indicators in the cumin group increased significantly compared to the nettle group (p <0.001). Several reconstructive materials have been thoroughly explored in the search for the optimal solution for cranioplasty. Methods: A retrospective analysis was carried out on all cranioplasty procedures performed at Khoula Hospital from 2012 to 2022. This study encompassed a total of 47 patients. The data collection process involved gathering demographic information, the characteristics of the cranial defect, and any complications that occurred post-operatively. Results: The most common cause of cranial defects is craniectomy following traumatic head injury (70.2%), along with excision of fibrous dysplasia (10.6%). The most frequently utilized material for cranial repair was autologous bone graft (n=28), followed by PEEK (n=14). Interestingly, the replacement of bone graft from previous craniectomy showed a notably high resorption rate (71.4%), in contrast to split calvarial grafts (0%) and other types of bone grafts (14.3%). Additionally, delayed graft infection was observed in 3.6% of the bone graft group and 7.1% of the PEEK group. Conclusion: Patient-specific alloplastic implants such as PEEK, have gained popularity for large and complex cranioplasty, as they provide excellent aesthetic outcomes and leave no donor site morbidity.
