The pattern of glomerulonephritisis said to be different from other parts of the world which can be attributed to the prevalence of APOL1 gene in the blackpopulation and prevalence of tropical diseases. Treating glomerulonephritis in Nigeria can be challenging due to poorawareness and understanding of the disease, limited access to health care facility and lack of trained nephrologist. Possiblesolutions to this problems include creating awareness and education of the populace, partnering with NGOs to subsidizetreatment and training of Nephrologist.","PeriodicalId":506647,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal Of Clinical Practice","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140219352","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Preterm is defined as babies born before 37 weeks ofpregnancy. The rapidity of feed volume increments involves controversies like faster weight gain, shorter hospital stays, therisk of necrotizing enterocolitis and vice versa. Methods: The present study was a randomized controlled trial conducted fromJune 1, 2018 to October 31, 2019. All infants in the study were randomized to slow and rapid feeding protocols by a stratifiedblock randomization sequence of 2, 4, 6 blocks. Group 1 or the slow advancement group included 64 newborns babies andGroup 2 or the rapid advancement group included 69 newborns babies. Results: The average weight gain in Group 1 was4.41 ± 0.9 g and in Group 2 it was 6.33 ± 1.3 g, the difference was statistically significant (p < 0.02). Sixty out of 64 newbornsregained birth weight within 16.87 ± 0.9 days in Group 1, while 64 out of 69 newborns regained birth weight within 13.63 ±0.9 days in Group 2. The difference was statistically significant. Increment in the mean occipitofrontal circumference perweek was 0.29 ± 0.27 cm Group 1, while in Group 2 it was 0.42 ± 0.05 cm; the difference was statistically significant. Meanaverage length increment per week was found to be 0.55 ± 0.04 cm and 0.69 ± 0.05 cm in Group 1 and Group 2, respectively,the difference was statistically significant (p < 0.005). The mean duration of hospital stay was 27.47 ± 3.33 days in Group 1while in Group 2, the duration of stay was 23.15 ± 2.22 days, the difference was statistically significant. Conclusion: Ourstudy supports enteral nutrition by rapid enteral feeding regimen in stable preterm neonates with very low birth weight","PeriodicalId":506647,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal Of Clinical Practice","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140215561","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While the incidence of GDM is rising, its implications extend beyond pregnancy, affecting both maternaland fetal health. Notably, diabetic retinopathy (DR) presents a substantial risk, particularly in women with pre-existingdiabetes. However, there remains a dearth of data on retinal vascular changes in pregnant women with GDM managed withmedication, particularly in the South Indian population. This study aims to address this gap by evaluating retinal vascularchanges in pregnant women with GDM managed with medication, focusing specifically on GDM type A2. We conducted acomprehensive assessment of retinopathy prevalence and associated factors in this population, employing various imagingmodalities including fundus photography, optical coherence tomography angiography and Doppler sonography","PeriodicalId":506647,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal Of Clinical Practice","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140221016","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

OIs continue to cause morbidity and mortality in HIV/AIDS patients even after highly-active antiretroviral therapy (HAART); hence, attainment of the goals on health care programs,particularly in resource-poor countries, is hard to achieve. The prevalence of specific OIs varies in different countries and evenin different areas within the same country. Little information is available about the prevalence of OI in HIV patients fromdeveloping countries, especially India. Early diagnosis and prompt treatment contribute to increased life expectancy amonginfected patients delaying progression to AIDS. Hence, the present study was carried out to elucidate current frequencies andspectrum of OIs in HIV seropositive adult patients in Haryana and to evaluate the associated risk factors for OIs. Materialsand methods: This was a cross-sectional study carried out at the Dept. of General Medicine in a tertiary care hospital in NorthIndia. Basic demographic details, anthropometric measurements, symptoms of HIV/OI, clinical examination, biochemicalinvestigations and treatment details were recorded. Patients aged 18 to 70 years and HIV seropositive subjects were includedin the study. Results: The study found that about 53.21% of HIV/AIDS patients on ART had one or more OIs. Tuberculosis(TB) was the predominant OI identified, with a prevalence of 25.71%. Candidiasis and herpes zoster were the second and thethird most prevalent OIs at 13.8% (101/731) and 7.25% (53/731), respectively. Age (43.4 ± 10.7 years), low income, illiteracy,low socioeconomic status, initial 4 months since initiation of ART, CD4 count <200/mm3, body mass index of <18.5 kg/m², poorART adherence, hemoglobin, albumin were strongly associated with OIs. Conclusion: The present study shows that TB is thecommonest OI in adults and the overall population of people living with HIV (PLHIV) in Haryana and proves that OIs acrossdifferent patient groups vary significantly. Various factors like adherence to HAART, socioeconomic and education status ofpatients can influence the occurrence and outcome of these deadly infections.","PeriodicalId":506647,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal Of Clinical Practice","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140454474","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
