{"title":"Early–middle Jurassic source to sink evolution and its tectonic significance in the northeastern Sichuan Basin","authors":"Haitao Hong, Chunyu Qin, Shaomin Zhang, Zhijie Zhang, XiaoJuan Wang, Nan Li, Dawei Cheng, Wenbin Tang","doi":"10.3389/feart.2023.1231694","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.3389/feart.2023.1231694","url":null,"abstract":"This paper discusses the sedimentary environment and source supply in the sedimentary area and their coupling relationship through a detailed description of the deposits from the Ziliujing Formation to Shaximiao Formation of the Lower–Middle Jurassic on the Tieshan section in the Dazhou City, northeastern Sichuan Province, through sedimentary characterization, determination of the paleocurrent direction, analysis of heavy minerals, and detrital zircon U–Pb dating. The results show that the Zhenzhuchong Member is sufficiently supplied with detrital sediments and is dominantly composed of fluvial-delta deposits. The Dongyuemiao Member—the first member of the Lianggaoshan Formation—is dominated by lacustrine deposits, with the detrital supply increased initially in the early Lianggaoshan. The second member of the Lianggaoshan Formation suggests a significant increase in detrital supply, with shrunken lake basin and changed paleocurrent direction. The Shaximiao Formation reveals a complete disappearance of the lake basin in the northern Sichuan Basin. The comprehensive analysis on source supply indicates that the change in source property is apparently coupled with the change in the sedimentary environment, both controlled by orogenesis around the basin. Carey Thomas. I confess at once that any award for work in science must awake a certain sense of timidity; for one can never be sure that research will stand. How often have the supposed facts and theories of the very ablest been reversed by new evidence I In the case of my own work, I can see with great clarity how far it is from reaching its goal. But why does ar. honor from Bryn Mawr touch so deep a sense of gratification4 It is because of the traditions of this l$ace and all that they have meant for scholarship r.nd for women. I remember so vividly getting thB essential quality of this spirit on the occasion, now thirteen years ago, when Miss Thomas retired fr:om the presidency of the college. There was not a person who spoke at that time, former member5 of the fatuity and former students alike, who did not bring out that the influence of Miss Thomas had been in a quite unique manner toward fostering high standards of work. This is what she has hequeathed to the college. What a gratification it must be to her, President Park, that you have the same feeling for 5choIarship and that you have carried on and extended the high traditions of Bryn Mawr.
