Therefore, identifying the factors that influence CSR in Chinese enterprises is an important topic for further investigation. Does the debt leverage ratio, ownership type, degree of internationalization (DOI), and auditing by the Big Four accounting firms have an impact on CSR? Based on a series of questions, our study aims to explore the influencing factors and relationships of CSR from multiple angles. Using data from 252 Chinese A-share listed enterprises from 2014 to 2019 and the CSR scores from the Hexun.com rating index, we constructed a panel dataset comprising 1,414 firm-year observations. After comparing models, the fixed effects method of panel data is ultimately used for empirical regression. The research results indicate a significant negative correlation between the leverage ratio and CSR. State-owned enterprises (SOEs) outperform non-state-owned enterprises (non-SOEs) in terms of CSR. There is a significant positive correlation between DOI and CSR. However, the contribution of audits by the Big Four accounting firms to CSR in Chinese enterprises is limited. While our study examines many aspects of the elements that affect corporate social responsibility (CSR) in Chinese companies, each firm must consider its circumstances and apply suitable strategies to improve its CSR practices.","PeriodicalId":504571,"journal":{"name":"Asian Economic and Financial Review","volume":"11 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140234401","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A quantitative survey was employed to collect data from 298 Malaysian specialists using questionnaires on a 289-5th point Likert scale. The study utilized Smart-PLS 4.0 and SEM-PLS for the analysis of the data. The analysis revealed that digital accounting adoption was found to significantly and positively influence corporate sustainability. Integration of digital Zakat was also shown to have a substantial positive impact on corporate sustainability, aligning philanthropy with sustainability goals and enhancing overall corporate sustainability outcomes. Moreover, financial transparency was confirmed to play a crucial moderating role in strengthening the relationships between digital practices and corporate sustainability. Financial transparency positively influences corporate sustainability efforts by providing stakeholders with clear insights into a company's financial commitment to sustainability initiatives. This paper offers practical insights into the interconnected dynamics of digital accounting adoption, financial transparency, corporate sustainability, and digital Zakat integration. The findings of this study offer valuable practical implications for both scholars and practitioners in the fields of digital accounting and corporate sustainability, enhanced corporate sustainability through digital accounting adoption, and integrating digital zakat for sustainable philanthropy. By heeding these implications, both scholars and practitioners can work towards more responsible and sustainable business practices, fostering a positive impact on society and the environment while also building trust and confidence among stakeholders.","PeriodicalId":504571,"journal":{"name":"Asian Economic and Financial Review","volume":"8 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140231823","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It also aims to assess the moderating role of management support (MS) in these relationships. The population of this study was 166 auditors from the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK-Badan Pemeriksa Keuangan) spread across the Papua region of Indonesia. The data were analyzed using Partial Least Square-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) analysis. The findings show that there is a significant influence of brainstorming and auditor ethics on audit opinion, but whistleblowers do not influence audit opinion. In addition, management support moderates the influence of auditor ethics but not brainstorming and whistleblowers. Management that supports auditor ethics strengthens the positive effect of auditor ethics on audit opinions, ensuring that auditors can operate independently and objectively. However, the findings demonstrate that management support is unable to control the impact of brainstorming and whistleblowing on audit opinion, which is a result of other factors that are more important in influencing audit results. This research suggests that effective organizational management is crucial for maintaining auditor ethics and enhancing auditor independence in delivering unbiased audit opinions. Therefore, organizations must pay more attention to the role and support of management in creating a culture that supports integrity and ethics in the audit process.","PeriodicalId":504571,"journal":{"name":"Asian Economic and Financial Review","volume":"5 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140234877","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Over the years, researchers have cited and conducted in-depth investigations into various psychological biases. Herding bias is extensively studied to understand how investors participate in investment and trading in the Indian stock market. The current study on herding provides an investigation into the existence of herd activity in the share market of India. The study attempts to identify herd activity during positive, negative, extreme positive, and extreme negative market conditions, as well as during structural breakpoints and trade volumes that are low as well as high. The researchers have used the modified CSAD (Cross Sectional Absolute Deviation) model to enhance its validity. The findings reveal the rationality of investors during the different market states. However, herding behaviour was evidenced during certain periods at the structural breakpoint. This implies that during positive as well as negative market conditions, herding behaviour is absent, except during certain structural breakpoints and high trading volumes.","PeriodicalId":504571,"journal":{"name":"Asian Economic and Financial Review","volume":"351 7","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140232925","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study used a newly proposed novel dynamic panel threshold technique. The results of the study found an institutional quality threshold value of 1.622. Below the threshold, foreign aid was found to positively and significantly influence income inequality. However, above the threshold, the coefficient of foreign aid was negative with statistical significance. This implies that foreign aid tends to diminish income inequality in the presence of quality institutions. The study also used the quantile regression method to check for robustness. It showed that the conclusion between aid and inequality is the same in most of the quantiles (0.1 and 0.2). The findings can be worthwhile for sketching proper aid policies to lessen inequality. Policymakers in Africa should prioritize establishing high-quality institutions and developing measures to improve existing ones. Thus, aid could potentially reduce income inequality. This study suggests that it is important to note that aid programs can be effective when tailored to the particular needs and circumstances of each beneficiary country, as one-size-fits-all methods may not produce the anticipated outcomes.","PeriodicalId":504571,"journal":{"name":"Asian Economic and Financial Review","volume":"224 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140233598","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We obtained secondary data from the annual reports of the Global Innovation Index (GII), Summary Innovation Index (SII), and Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI) for the years 2017 to 2021. Using structural equation modeling, the main concept was to develop a new variable, Innovation Performance (IP), which was created by combining the indices of the GII and SII dimensions within a new three-factor model. The modelling findings revealed that both indexes had a statistically significant impact on the variations in the IP value, with the SII exerting a greater influence compared to the GII. The IP variable in the modified model has a significant positive impact on the change in the score of the DESI. We found a positive impact for 10 dimensions (from 19) and a negative impact for firm investments. The highest positive impact was confirmed for research systems, information technologies, and human resources. Our findings also highlight real economic contexts and drivers for EU countries' strategies and policies in the progress of digital competitiveness.","PeriodicalId":504571,"journal":{"name":"Asian Economic and Financial Review","volume":"77 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140232529","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Unbalanced panel data from 1880 firms was obtained from the Department of Statistics Malaysia. We used stochastic frontier (SFA) analysis with the transcendental logarithmic approach to estimate the empirical analysis parametric. The maximum likelihood estimated regression of the SFA parameters revealed a high total average TE of 0.944%. Both the manufacturing sub-industries for communications equipment (MSIC 263) and irradiation, electromedical, and electrotherapeutic equipment (MSIC 266) demonstrated the highest average TE value and consistency (0.989%). The consumer electronics manufacturing sub-industry (MSIC 264) yielded a notably lower TE level (0.846%). Changes in TE for all industries were monitored via standard deviation analysis. The low standard deviation (SD) for MSIC 263, 271, and 275 indicated continuous progress and demands for these industries, while the higher SD for MSIC 264, 266, 272, and 273 pointed out major changes that happened within the period. The findings demonstrated that studies on the TE levels indicate that the E&E manufacturing industry has highly expended and continuous efforts to update technologies and human capital innovations. Therefore, the practical implication is to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 9 for sustainable industrialization and fostering innovation by 2030.","PeriodicalId":504571,"journal":{"name":"Asian Economic and Financial Review","volume":"8 7","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140240941","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a dependent variable, a sustainable productivity index is created to measure this productivity. Using the econometric method of panel data, the impact of employment, capital stock, and innovation on the sustainable productivity of the wood manufacturing industry is found. The variable capital stock (SC) is estimated using the Perpetual Inventory Method (PIM) and incorporating an adjustment factor for the absence of the first observation. The findings indicate that there is a significant relationship between the sustainable productivity index and the variables employment, innovation, and capital stock. The study's findings demonstrate that productivity exists when there is a balance in the use of resources or public goods. The contribution that is made to the literature is about authentic productivity that promotes the improvement of the quality of life of the population as well as the responsible use of finite resources. This research examines the practical implications of sustainable forest resource utilization, specifically focusing on sustainable productivity.","PeriodicalId":504571,"journal":{"name":"Asian Economic and Financial Review","volume":"121 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140238050","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study adopted a quantitative research strategy; a Likert scale questionnaire was used to collect data from 53 managers purposively and conveniently sampled in KwaZulu-Natal. Robustness analysis was performed using SPSS version 28 for descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings of the study revealed that all independent variables correlate between 1.000 and -.364.  This study provided practical and theoretical contributions in the field by deepening an understanding of the key variables identified by this research study, which has been justified by the most relevant literature that drives the financial literacy of NGOs and financial managers. The study further offered insight into constructs for measures of financial literacy in NGOs. This study added to the body of knowledge on the financial literacy of NGOs financial managers in South Africa. The study urgently recommends that NGOs, academia, policymakers, and other key players in the financial literacy field consider the urgent need for financial literacy training or short courses within this sector. These findings urgently call for the attention of the policymakers. This study offered a future research plan on the subject matter in the areas of the true extent of the practicality of financial literacy among financial non-government organisations’ managers that were not addressed in this article.","PeriodicalId":504571,"journal":{"name":"Asian Economic and Financial Review","volume":"29 5","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140240126","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Tax avoidance (TA) is an action taken by taxpayers to legally avoid taxes that does not violate tax regulations. Taxpayers use TA to reduce their tax liability by taking advantage of loopholes in the tax code. For example, reporting net income is smaller than it actually is. This study investigates the factors that influence tax avoidance. The factors are environmental, social, and governance (ESG) and earnings management (EM), with company size (CS) as a moderating variable. This study employed a quantitative methodology and used secondary data as the data type. The population of study is LQ45 Company for the years 2017-2021. The samples are selected based on some criteria. Based on those criteria, thirty companies were selected for the sample. Multiple linear analysis methods and moderate regression analysis are used in hypothesis testing. The statistical testing of the study found that EM had no impact on TA, while ESG had a considerable beneficial impact on TA. The impact of EM on TA can be both moderated and strengthened by CS, whereas the impact of ESG on TA cannot be. The management decisions made by the business are connected to the ESG activities the business is engaged in. The company's ESG efforts need to be carefully monitored to prevent increased TA tactics.","PeriodicalId":504571,"journal":{"name":"Asian Economic and Financial Review","volume":"4 31","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140241415","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
