Significant changes in the directions of globalization development as well as the transformations and disruptions of existing raw-material supply chains and changes in their structure call for verification of and changes in regulations on raw-material management in individual countries, not only in the Ue. the article examines the current eU regulations and their amendments in Poland. the article presents problems that have arisen during works on the necessary regulatory reform of the following policies: development, spatial (land-use), raw material, geology and mining, environmental protection, and waste and water management. the article shows that strategies, policies, and regulations prepared simultaneously, which were to be correlated with the horizontally integrated National Development Concept, are not. This should effectively enhance the country’s raw-material security. {"title":"Analysis of the properties of coal sludge in the context of the possibility of using it in biological reclamation","authors":"M. Śliwka, W. Kępys, M. Pawul","doi":"10.24425/gsm.2022.143629","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.24425/gsm.2022.143629","url":null,"abstract":"The mining industry, including hard-coal mining, has a significant and multifaceted impact on all components of the environment. One of the factors is the production of various types of waste which, due to their physico-chemical and ecotoxic properties, do not always pose a threat to the environment and can be used in various ways. Such treatment of waste perfectly fits into the concept of the circular economy through the protection of natural resources and the maximum re-use of waste. One of the wastes generated by hard-coal mines is coal sludge from the purification of underground water in surface settling tanks. The article presents the results of research on the physico-chemical and phytotoxic properties of carbon sludges from two settling tanks with regard to assessing the possibility of their re-use in the reclamation of degraded areas. These sludges contain mainly sand fractions. An analysis of their chemical composition revealed the presence of heavy metals. leachability studies have shown that despite the high concentrations of metals, a small quantity of these metals passes into the solution. In this respect, therefore, they do not pose a threat to the environment. However, a threat may result from the presence of chlorides and sulphates, the amounts of which are influenced by, among other factors, the time of waste storage in the settling tank. Phytotoxicity tests performed on garden cress (Lepidium sativum) did not show a toxic effect at any concentration of the water extract. In addition, for one of the sludges, water extracts with concentrations starting from 12.5 and 50% stimulated the growth of the plant’s shoots and roots, respectively. The results show that the tested coal sludges may be used in appropriate doses for reclamation work, for example, when establishing a plant cover. {"title":"Extraction of titanium from Ti-doped seaside magnetite concentrate in HCl media","authors":"Elife Kart, MüMIn KIRMan","doi":"10.24425/gsm.2021.139736","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.24425/gsm.2021.139736","url":null,"abstract":"The purpose of the present study was to extract high added value titanium from Ti-doped Seasi - de Magnetite Concentrated (Ti-SMC), which has a high potential reserve for Ti-fe with 4–6% Ti, 50–52% fe, 1–2% al, and 1–2% Mg content by applying innovative, economical, environmentally friendly methods. agitaion HCl leaching was applied to the Ti-SMC sample at different leaching temperatures (25–50–75–90°C), at acid concentrations (8–10–12 n), and leaching times (30–60– –120–240 min) in atmospheric conditions. after the leaching experiments under the indicated con - ditions, the optimization of the leaching experiments was determined with Ti% recovery that dis - soluted by elemental analysis, and the titanium recovery values reached the maximum value with increased leaching time at 50°C and 10 n HCl acid concentration; and 65% Ti was recovered in 30 minutes, 67% in 60 minutes, 74% in 120 minutes, and 82% Ti in 240 minutes. for Ti-SMC, le - aching was carried out at 50°C leaching temperature and at 10 n acid concentration for 480 minutes, and a 92% Ti extraction value was achieved. according to the extraction results of all leaching expe - riments, the leaching temperature of 50°C, the acid concentration of 10 n, and the leaching time of 480 minutes were determined as the optimum conditions. Szlugaj","doi":"10.24425/gsm.2022.140613","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.24425/gsm.2022.140613","url":null,"abstract":"The lithium market has experienced an unprecedented boom in recent years like a “golden age” and is one of the fastest growing raw material markets in the world. The fast growing demand for lithium is mainly related to the increase in the production of lithium-ion batteries used in electric or hybrid vehicles and portable electronic equipment, and to a lesser extent, in other strategic fields (military, nuclear technologies). This was reflected in a significant change in the structure of consumption, an increase in international trade and in the price of lithium raw materials. Moreover, in 2018 lithium was listed as a critical element for the national security and economy of the united States, and in 2020 it was also listed as a critical raw material for the European union economy. It is also a time of increased exploration for new deposits, as well as mining processing and recycling. As a result, global lithium reserves have doubled in the last six years. All this prompted the authors to prepare an article in which the sources of lithium minerals and their resources, the basic factors determining the economic situation on the market, their prices and the possibilities of recycling and substitution are presented and assessed. Attention is also paid to the role of companies operating in Poland as significant partners on the European market of lithium-ion batteries. lithium oxide and hydroxide and lithium carbonate are the main lithium raw materials used in Poland. Hycnar","doi":"10.24425/118639","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.24425/118639","url":null,"abstract":"The results of studies on the sorption properties of limestone with respect to SO 2 under fluidized bed conditions are presented. it has been confirmed that the structural and textural characteristics of limestones (which, contrary to the common belief, are shaping the course of the sulphation process rather than the cacO 3 content) have a decisive influence on the effectiveness of SO 2 capture. The impact of the porosity of limestones on the SO 2 sorption process has been shown. Limestone parameters, which should be assessed at the stage of qualification of raw material for raw material production, have also been determined. The research methods, which can be used to predict the reactivity of sorbent in industrial conditions at the stage of laboratory analysis, have been presented.
