Using a descriptive research survey design with purposive sampling of one hundred respondents, the following were the major findings: Overall, incorporating technology into higher education pedagogy was rated very highly. Younger faculty, compared to older ones, were found to be more technology user-friendly in pedagogical delivery. Years of teaching experience and workload strongly impacted faculty use of digital technologies, while institutional-related factors such as availability of professional development, accessibility to technology, and technical and leadership support were rated as leading factors affecting faculty’s perception of the use of technology. Even though the majority considered a significant relationship between the digitalization of pedagogy in Higher Education and the development of a better society, the connection was not perceived to be automatic. While acknowledging the impact of digital pedagogy in Higher Institutions to leverage business and economic output, there was also the need for conscious crafting of technology development and national digital transformation towards a more inclusive and sustainable direction from both Higher Education and Government.","PeriodicalId":503832,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Education and Pedagogy","volume":" 1025","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141823268","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Women leaders, particularly in schools, remain determined to drive prescribed agenda towards improvement. Success in overcoming any impediments relies on the provision of support and consideration of leaders’ wellbeing. An interpretivist approach was employed to explain the voices of women leaders in determining support given amid challenging school environments. In-depth interviews were conducted with five women leaders in Tshwane South District, Gauteng province. Results show that women leaders are determined to show resilience by delivering on the core business of their work. They also face unique challenges in difficult environments whilst lacking the kind of support that promotes their wellness. Hence, the recommendation for the DBE is to offer them structured support.","PeriodicalId":503832,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Education and Pedagogy","volume":" 10","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141832259","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This quasi-experimental study aims to determine the effect of the 2D flat diagrams and 3D graphic animations as instructional materials on Marine Engineering students’ familiarization with auxiliary engine machinery. The participants were second-year students taking up BS Marine Engineering for the second semester of the school year 2021–2022. Two instruments were used. The first was a 30-item multiple-choice questionnaire focusing on Marine Refrigeration systems and Air Conditioning systems. The questions relate to the components of each system, its functions, and its operation. The second instrument was the assessments at the end of the CBTs. Mean, Standard Deviation, Paired t-test, and T-test for independent samples were used to analyze the data. The finding showed that using 2D flat diagrams and 3D graphic animations is essential for the Marine Engineering students’ familiarization with auxiliary engine machinery. Students exposed to the Refrigeration System and Air Conditioning System CBTs with 3D graphic animation have a higher level of familiarization than students exposed to the use of a 2D flat diagram. Moreover, simultaneously, students’ performance increases when they are exposed to the Refrigeration System and Air Conditioning System CBTs with 3D graphic animation. This study recommends upgrading the CBTs used by the school from 2D or flat diagrams to more sophisticated CBTs with 3D graphic animations.","PeriodicalId":503832,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Education and Pedagogy","volume":"31 9","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141360200","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study investigated the impact of Wordwall-assisted Problem-based learning (PBL) models with HOTS problems on students’ critical thinking and problem-solving skills in mathematics. This type of qualitative analysis uses descriptive methods. The subjects of this research were 31 grade 8 junior high school students in Batu, consisting of 22 male and 9 female students. Data collection methods are through questionnaires and test methods. Data analysis related to the validation of responses from 31 students was obtained from questionnaire results based on the ratio of student responses to the media, and data analysis was related to tests of students’ critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. Established on the results of data analysis through research instruments in the form of data collected from student response questionnaires about the use of knowledge media, HOTS test questions discussed by SPLDV related to students’ critical thinking abilities and problem-solving abilities. Students’ critical thinking and mathematical problem-solving skills are very high, with achievements of 80.27% and 80.20%, respectively. It is expected that teachers can use the PBL method and Wordlwall learning media so that student compatibility becomes better.","PeriodicalId":503832,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Education and Pedagogy","volume":"112 7","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141363003","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The type of case study analyzed in this paper is the manual or the computerized “project” case study. Students are given a set of real-world transactions to process either in a manual accounting information system (AIS) or a computerized AIS. The most popular computerized AIS in the United States is QuickBooks. In Germany, the market standard is DATEV, allowing extensible solutions from “pure” bookkeeping up to complete ERP systems. A manual project is popular in AIS courses to ensure students are exposed to all the steps and integration necessary for a fully functioning system. One famous manual case study in the US is the Systems Understanding Aid Case Study from Armond Dalton Publishers. I tried to find examples of a full-blown (15 to 20 hours) manual case study in Germany but was unsuccessful.\u0000How the students used the DATEV case study and its integration with tax software for corporate and individual taxes became the direction that my research took as I spent time with German colleagues. I sought to answer questions like–how long does the project take students? Do they work together or independently? How much of the project is completed during classroom hours/settings with guidance from the instructor? Does the project represent a significant portion of their grade?","PeriodicalId":503832,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Education and Pedagogy","volume":"124 32","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141362571","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the participation rates of Greek employees in educational programs are below the European average. At this point, it is worth noting that little is known regarding the barriers that prevent them from participating. In this light, the present study is the first attempt to investigate both individual barriers and barrier categories of employees’ participation in Greece. Survey data were collected using a questionnaire. The results of the present study revealed four categories of barriers. Of these, situational barriers gathered the highest average, followed by institutional: state/institute barriers and, institutional: working environment and, to a lesser extent, dispositional barriers. In particular, the three main barriers faced by employees were the “lack of time due to work obligations”, the “participation cost”, and the “lack of time due to taking care of children.” In addition, the categories of barriers were found to be related to three of the four demographic variables examined: gender, employment status, and occupation, which were independent of age.","PeriodicalId":503832,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Education and Pedagogy","volume":" 5","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141366594","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Participants were 93 students (prospective teachers) who had been provided with a number of data in order to be able to articulate claims and to develop reasoning to support them. Students’ argumentation components were categorized according to their content suitability, and relevant paths from data to claims were constructed. Results provide evidence for the capability of students to develop arguments based on the information and data available to them, revealing a number of misunderstandings in relation to the greenhouse effect and insufficient reasoning regarding their argumentation skills. Relevant improvements that could take place in preschool education departments and implications for science education are also discussed.","PeriodicalId":503832,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Education and Pedagogy","volume":"56 9","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141387640","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This qualitative case study research design aims to increase the level of awareness and engagement among our students to create sustainable leaders and foster more sustainable organizations, households, and communities at the micro and macro levels. A design thinking workshop was used to raise students’ level of awareness and engagement. An open-ended survey was used to gather data on students’ views of how the business community and higher educational institutions can play their part in the nation’s sustainability issues. The design thinking workshop resulted in the development of a sustainable development project proposal on renewable energy. Results of the survey revealed that students were not fully aware of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The study recommends that higher educational institutions need to play a more critical role in educating students about the SDGs and need to infuse sustainability within the curriculum.","PeriodicalId":503832,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Education and Pedagogy","volume":"28 10","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141387965","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper focused on the role of children’s participation in democratic school leadership based on the Ryan model in order to promote good inclusive education practices in primary schools. Five school principals from different schools in Athens, Greece, participated in this research. The research showed that involving children in school leadership through a range of activities can enhance the participation of all children in the daily life of the school. This article concludes with a discussion, suggestions and limitations on using student voice as part of school leadership to strengthen inclusive education.","PeriodicalId":503832,"journal":{"name":"European Journal of Education and Pedagogy","volume":" 10","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140997112","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
