To address these limitations, we developed a stereolithography (SLA)-based additive manufacturing system for fabricating graphene oxide (GO)-reinforced SiOC/Si<sub>3</sub>N<sub>4</sub> bioceramic scaffolds that integrate three functional components: a mechanically robust Si<sub>3</sub>N<sub>4</sub> matrix, photothermally active SiOC, and osteoinductive GO. Initially, the polysiloxane KH570-H was synthesized, functioning as both a SiOC precursor and a photosensitive polymer, and subsequently formulated with 0-0.8 wt% GO/Si<sub>3</sub>N<sub>4</sub> to develop SLA-compatible ceramic slurries. To address GO-induced light scattering defects, a GO content-photosensitive parameters predictive model was established, improving the dimensional accuracy of printed green bodies by 12.5% compared to non-optimized counterparts. Following sintering post-treatment, 0-0.8 wt% GO/SiOC/Si<sub>3</sub>N<sub>4</sub> composite ceramics were fabricated, with the 0.2 wt% GO variant sintered at 1,300<sup>o</sup>C demonstrating optimal multifunctional performance. The compressive strength of the Gyroid unit TPMS scaffold with a porosity of 60% reached 41.88 MPa. Notably, the 0.2 wt% GO formulation showed superior cell proliferative capacity, as evidenced by fluorescence microscopy observations of confluent cell monolayers with extensive pseudopodial extensions, indicative of active osteogenic interactions. Under 808 nm near-infrared irradiation (1 W/cm²), the scaffold achieved rapid photothermal activation, reaching the therapeutic threshold of 47.8°C within 10 minutes in a physiomimetic microenvironment. This photothermally functional GO/SiOC/Si<sub>3</sub>N<sub>4</sub> scaffold offers a promising dual-functional solution for post-tumor bone regeneration, combining structural adaptability with spatiotemporally controlled therapeutic precision.","PeriodicalId":502524,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Ceramics","volume":"14 7","pages":"9221098-9221098"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sciopen.com/article_pdf/1924385661483847682.pdf","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147878094","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The high-entropy component (8RE<sub>1/8</sub>)TaO<sub>4</sub> (RE = rare earth), which is designed by large size disorder and mass disorder, has been reassembled into a stabilized monoclinic structure. (8RE<sub>1/8</sub>)TaO<sub>4</sub> had 30.0%–31.1% and 59.2%–67.5% lower intrinsic thermal conductivity than single-RE RETaO<sub>4</sub> and 8(Y<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub>–ZrO<sub>2</sub>) 8YSZ at 1200 °C, respectively, and exhibited lower intrinsic thermal conductivity across the entire temperature range of 100–1200 °C. This is the result of strong scattering by the phonon–phonon, grain boundary, domain boundary, dislocation, and vacancy defects. The ionic conductivity of (8RE<sub>1/8</sub>)TaO<sub>4</sub> is 3712–29,667 times lower than that of 8YSZ at 900 °C, benefiting from the strong Ta–O bonding strength, low concentration of mobile oxygen vacancies and severe lattice distortions that impede carrier transport. Magnetic refrigeration technology based on the magnetocaloric effect (MCE) of magnetic materials is a promising approach to address helium resource constraints and improve energy efficiency. Here, a brilliant cryogenic magnetic refrigerant with a large low-field MCE and excellent refrigeration performance is presented. Benefiting from the enhanced ferromagnetism and low saturation magnetic field, the peaks of magnetic entropy change, refrigeration capacity, and adiabatic temperature change of Eu(Ti,Nb,Zr)O<sub>3</sub> compounds reach 19.6 J·kg<sup>−1</sup>·K<sup>−1</sup>, 87.6 J·kg<sup>−1</sup>, and 5.5 K, respectively, for a field change of 0−1 T. Magnetic refrigeration experiments on a Gifford‒McMahon (GM)/magnetic hybrid refrigerator further demonstrated that EuTi<sub>0.8375</sub>Nb<sub>0.0625</sub>Zr<sub>0.1</sub>O<sub>3</sub> is an excellent magnetic refrigerant operating near the liquid helium temperature. An appropriate amount of this magnetic refrigerant can significantly improve the refrigeration performance of the hybrid refrigerator. The cooling power in hybrid refrigeration mode is improved by a maximum of 52% over that in pure GM/HoCu<sub>2</sub> mode at 4.2 K and 0.5 Hz. In addition, the cooling efficiency at 4.2 K is more than 40% greater than that of the pure GM/HoCu<sub>2</sub> refrigerator.","PeriodicalId":502524,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Ceramics","volume":"13 12","pages":"1996-2003"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.sciopen.com/local/article_pdf/10.26599/JAC.2024.9220992.pdf","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147904049","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the reported high-entropy phases are mainly 1T phases, 2H phases are rare, and approximately 3R phases are still lacking. Here, phase engineering of high-entropy TMDCs is achieved by tuning the chemical composition of (Mo<sub>0.5</sub>W<sub>0.5</sub>)<sub>1−<i>x</i></sub>(Nb<sub>0.5</sub>Ta<sub>0.5</sub>)<sub><i>x</i></sub>Se<sub>2+<i>δ</i></sub>, 0 ≤ <i>x</i> &lt; 1, and −0.1 ≤ <i>δ</i> ≤ 0.3. A phase diagram is constructed to guide the synthesis of pure 2H/3R phases over a wide composition/entropy range. The increase in VB-group element content and Se overdose facilitated the formation of 3R phases, whereas the opposite occurred for 2H phases. Thermodynamic first-principles calculations evaluate the stability of phases in different polytypes and compositions, matching well with the composition-dependent crystalline habits. Moreover, the optimized thermoelectric performance, with a figure of merit (<i>zT</i> = 0.36@723 K) in 2H phase of <i>x</i> = 0.2, is attributed to the low thermal conductivity (<i>κ</i>) caused by the high-entropy effect, which is one of the highest among (Mo/W)Se<sub>2</sub>-based materials. However, the impedance mismatch caused by high conductivity and dielectric properties has seriously hindered the application of graphene in the EMWA field. In this work, based on the dielectric dispersion behavior of ideal broadband absorption as a guide, a Fe microsheet/reduced graphene oxide (Fe/RGO) composite was prepared by simple hydrothermal and thermal reduction methods. The permittivity of RGO is optimized by adjusting the content of anisotropic Fe microsheets, and a balance between attenuation ability and impedance matching is achieved. Theoretical calculations and off-axis electron holography results reveal that the abundant polar sites and heterogeneous interfaces of Fe and RGO enhance the dipole and interface polarizations. The three-dimensional (3D) conductive network structure contributes to multiple reflections of incident electromagnetic waves and conduction loss. The natural and exchange resonances and eddy current loss caused by anisotropic Fe microsheets further increase magnetic loss. Based on the dielectric-magnetic loss mechanism and good impedance matching, Fe/RGO achieves a minimum reflection loss (RL<sub>min</sub>) of −67.95 dB at 8.48 GHz and a maximum effective absorption bandwidth (EAB<sub>max</sub>) of 6.91 GHz (11.09–18 GHz) with a low filling content of 10 wt%. In addition, Fe/RGO has excellent radar stealth performance, with a radar cross section (RCS) of −31.21 dBm<sup>2</sup> at 0°. Therefore, the proposed strategy and theoretical analysis provide a reference for the microstructure design, composition, and mechanism analysis of EMWA materials.","PeriodicalId":502524,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Ceramics","volume":"13 12","pages":"1974-1984"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-10-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.sciopen.com/local/article_pdf/10.26599/JAC.2024.9220990.pdf","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147917230","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The relative density and grain size play important roles in tailoring the mechanical properties and wear resistance of HEBs, affecting their applications, such as high-temperature structural parts and thermal protection systems. In this study, highly dense (HfZrTaVNb)B<sub>2</sub> ceramics with size-tunable microstructures were successfully synthesized by spark plasma sintering combined with an ingenious two-step strategy. The effects of grain size on the mechanical properties and wear resistance of (HfZrTaVNb)B<sub>2</sub> ceramics were comprehensively investigated. The results indicated that the smaller grain size led to higher hardness and fracture toughness, and the relationship between hardness and grain size fitted the Hall–Petch equation well. In particular, the sample featuring a grain size of 1.64 µm and 97.6% density had the highest hardness and fracture toughness, 26.7 GPa and 4.6 MPa·m<sup>1/2</sup>, respectively. Notably, it also demonstrated optimal wear resistance, displaying a minimal wear rate of only 2.53×10<sup>−6</sup> mm<sup>3</sup>/(N·m) under a 20 N load. Microstructure analysis revealed that the primary wear mechanism observed in (HfZrTaVNb)B<sub>2</sub> was oxidative wear under a 5 N load. Under a 10 N load, the wear mechanism comprised both oxidative and fracture wear. The wear mechanism became more complex and involved oxidation wear, fracture wear, abrasive wear, and fatigue wear at a 20 N load.","PeriodicalId":502524,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Ceramics","volume":"13 11","pages":"1835-1843"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147884394","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the intrinsic MXene materials themselves have not achieved significant breakthroughs in microwave absorption (MA) performance. Therefore, the development of novel and efficient pure MXene absorbing materials is imperative to address inherent mismatches in electromagnetic parameters, highlighting the urgent need in this area. Here, a straightforward strategy involving etching time modulation is proposed to customize the electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption properties of delaminated Mo<sub>2</sub>CT<sub><i>x</i></sub> MXene. The impact of varying etching degrees on the EMW absorption capabilities of Mo<sub>2</sub>CT<sub><i>x</i></sub> MXenes was systematically investigated through controlled etching durations of Mo<sub>2</sub>Ga<sub>2</sub>C MAX phase. Among them, the sample etched for 12 h achieved an effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) of 4.4 GHz at an ultrathin thickness of 1.3 mm, and the strongest reflection loss (RL) value was as high as −60.7 dB when the sample etching time was increased to 24 h. The improvement in absorbing performance was attributed to the dielectric loss and polarization process induced by terminal functional groups and surface-rich defects, which optimized impedance matching. The weak electromagnetic wave (EMW) attenuation capacity and poor flexibility of single precursor-derived SiOC ceramics significantly limit their further application. This study employs a simple electrospinning technique to uniformly distribute Co and TiO<sub>2</sub> within amorphous SiOC nanofibers. The three-dimensional porous structure formed by continuous nanofibers endows Co/TiO<sub>2</sub>/SiOCs with high porosity, significantly reducing the thermal conductivity and enhancing the conductive loss of electromagnetic waves within the nanofiber mats. Additionally, the introduction of Co and Ti promotes nanostructuring of the fibers and introduces polarization interfaces and defects, thereby enhancing the polarization loss of the samples. With a filler content of only 5 wt%, the Co/TiO<sub>2</sub>/SiOC sample heat-treated at 800 °C (in silicone resin) exhibits an effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) of up to 8.64 GHz (9.36–18.00 GHz) at a thickness of 3.25 mm, achieving a minimum reflection loss (RL<sub>min</sub>) value of −66.00 dB at 17.11 GHz with a matching thickness of 2.50 mm. Specifically, it focuses on channeling oxidation products generated at exposed cracks in the substrate to interact with the antioxidant coatings, enabling a self-repair mechanism for cracks. BN<sub>f</sub>/SiBN was chosen as the ceramic matrix, while the Si‒O‒Al system served as the antioxidant coating. The dynamic process of obtaining Si–O–Al (SOAC) coating involving the pyrolysis of organic precursors and the dual-feedback healing mechanism were systematically investigated. These findings indicate that when the temperature surpasses 1150 °C, the exposed BN fibers at the cracks are oxidized, transforming into B<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub>(g). Subsequently, B<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub>(g) reacts with SiO<sub>2</sub>, forming a SiBO mixture. The mixture effectively diminishes the viscosity of the coating, enabling it to flow and form a fresh protective layer that effectively blocks O<sub>2</sub> infiltration. Consequently, after oxidation at 1500 °C, the coated samples experience a mere 3% weight loss. This technology emphasizes the interconnectivity during material transformation, utilizing matrix oxidation products as a driving force for self-healing of the coating. This approach achieves intelligent-like, targeted closure of oxygen pathways, thereby pioneering a novel concept and direction for the advancement of antioxidant coatings. Consequently, this approach not only enhances our understanding of the fundamental nature of “self-healing” but also holds significant potential in the development of reparable antioxidant coatings.","PeriodicalId":502524,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advanced Ceramics","volume":"13 10","pages":"1643-1654"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-09-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.sciopen.com/local/article_pdf/10.26599/JAC.2024.9220966.pdf","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147898614","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
