There are few works involved in NSP mining, and the definitions of NSP are inconsistent in each work. The support threshold for PSP is always applied on NSP, which cannot bring out interesting patterns. In addition, PSP has been discovered on incremental databases and progressive databases, while NSP mining is only performed on static databases. Progressive sequential pattern mining finds the most up-to-date patterns, which can provide more valuable information. However, the previous progressive sequential pattern mining algorithm contains some redundant process. In this paper, we aim to find NSP on progressive databases. A new definition of NSP is given to discover more meaningful and interesting patterns. We propose an algorithm, Propone, for efficient mining process. We also propose a level-order traversal strategy and a pruning strategy to reduce the calculation time and the number of negative sequential candidates (NSC). By comparing Propone with some modified previous algorithms, the experimental results show that Propone outperforms comparative algorithms.","PeriodicalId":50177,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Information Science and Engineering","volume":"1 1","pages":"145-169"},"PeriodicalIF":1.1,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86438371","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"计算机科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For serving timevarying traffic on an elastic optical network (EON), the frequency spectrum allocated for the request can be expanded or contracted to meet the bandwidth requirement. Multipath routing can reduce the blocking probability of requests for EONs, but the delay-variation between these lightpaths should be considered when establishes these lightpaths. In this paper, the Delay-Variation Constrained Spectrum Expansion and Contraction Problem (DVCSECP) for multipath routing on EONs is studied with time-varying traffic. The expansion/contraction algorithms and several path-selecting policies (PSPs) are proposed to solve this problem. Simulations show that the proposed algorithms can achieve good results.","PeriodicalId":50177,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Information Science and Engineering","volume":"2 1","pages":"109-125"},"PeriodicalIF":1.1,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89227998","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"计算机科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, users may pay the redundant auditing cost when they have similar auditing results. For example, a lot of users may get fail results when the CSP’s service occurs accidents. In the worst case, the overall auditing cost is linearly increasing with the number of users. We propose a cooperative auditing model to let user share their auditing results in a friendship-based social network so that their overall auditing cost can be reduced. Furthermore, we design an auditing coalition game based on cooperative game theory, where not only users’ individual interest but their entire benefit is considered. We present two algorithms to find out an optimal way of forming auditing coalitions. The first algorithm determines an optimal coalition in one iteration. In the second algorithm, after iteratively adjusting users’ trust relationships, users may change to join another coalition if they receive wrong auditing results.","PeriodicalId":50177,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Information Science and Engineering","volume":"62 1","pages":"127-143"},"PeriodicalIF":1.1,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77924379","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"计算机科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Soft Skills-Graduate Attribute Scale was developed to measure professional competence, critical thinking skills, communication skills, lifelong learning, social and ethical responsibility, productivity, and interpersonal skills. Sixty (60) marine engineering students were purposively selected based on their participation in the various community service activities. The result shows that students who regularly volunteered have significantly higher measures of graduate attributes relating to professional competence, communication skills, and social and ethical responsibility as compared to non-regular and first-time volunteers. This study underscores the value of service learning programs in higher education in improving soft skills as well as the cross-cultural competencies of students in highly technical fields.","PeriodicalId":50177,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Information Science and Engineering","volume":"8 1","pages":"57-73"},"PeriodicalIF":1.1,"publicationDate":"2019-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48685934","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"计算机科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An undergraduate criminology class at Queensborough Community College (QCC) at the City University of New York (CUNY) was aligned with the goals and objectives of an on-campus exhibit, Conspiracy of Goodness, at the Kupferberg Holocaust Center. The exhibit focused on the rescuing behaviors of the village of Le Chambon during the Holocaust. Survey information suggested that prior to the class, students only had a rudimentary understanding of the Holocaust. During the semester students engaged with the exhibit, attended associated events and completed a paper comparing and contrasting the behaviors of Le Chambon with those of Jedwabne, Poland. Students selected and critically applied a criminological theory to explain the differences in behavior. Upon completion of the course, the majority of students showed an increased mastery not only of the facts of the Holocaust, but of their ability to think critically and make connections between historical events, criminological theories, and current events evidenced by their final papers, suggesting the benefit of aligning the studies of the Holocaust and criminal justice.","PeriodicalId":50177,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Information Science and Engineering","volume":"8 1","pages":"95-111"},"PeriodicalIF":1.1,"publicationDate":"2019-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42645053","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"计算机科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Results indicated that poverty and the pressure to migrate for work remain significant barriers to educational attainment, despite the perceived benefits of education by youth and encouragement by families. Results revealed that inter-educational issues occur despite unclear prevalence, including negative pressures, physical and verbal abuse of students by teachers, teachers charging students fees, and government schools being comparatively less safe and encouraging than home and a local NGO school. These findings can be used to better tailor development aid targeting educational measures, particularly encouraging a shift from convincing rural Cambodians to value education to targeting the contextual barriers that exist.","PeriodicalId":50177,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Information Science and Engineering","volume":"8 1","pages":"130-146"},"PeriodicalIF":1.1,"publicationDate":"2019-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48123532","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"计算机科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
