Some changes in both clinical and laboratory parameters have been associated with priapism in SCA. Aim:This study seeks to determine the clinical and laboratory characteristics of patients with SCA related priapism. Method: A total of 102 adult male patients with SCA were recruited at steady state into this cross-sectional study. Clinical data was extracted using interviewer administered questionnaire and clients’ folders while FBC, haemolytic and biochemical markers were determined for each participant. Data was analysed using SPSS version 21.0 and p < 0.05 was considered significant. Results: The prevalence of priapism was 36.3%. There was no significance difference between SCA patients with and without priapism in terms of age (p = 0.11), age at diagnosis (p = 0.81), marital status (χ2 = 2.06, df = 4, p = 0.09), painful crisis (χ2 = 0.95, df = 4, p = 0.41) and history of hospital admission (χ2 = 0.28, df = 4, p = 0.59). However, SCA patients with priapism had more blood transfusions (χ2 = 46.70, df = 4, p = 0.01), lower haemoglobin (p = 0.01), higher reticulocyte count (p = <0.001) and serum LDH (p = <0.001) compared to SCA patients without priapism. History of blood transfusion (OR = 3.4, 95% CI = 1.6 – 6.5, p = 0.03), higher reticulocyte count (OR = 8.9, 95% CI = 2.4 - 14.8, p = 0.01) and serum LDH (OR = 13.6, 95% CI = 7.6 – 24.3, p = 0.01) were positive predictors of priapism among adults with SCA. Conclusion: Priapism is a high among patients with SCA and haemolytic markers can serve as important determinants of SCA related priapism. There is need for increase awareness of this complication and researches to exploit mechanistic pathways of priapism in SCA.","PeriodicalId":50132,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Medical Research","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135989848","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While there has been some progress regarding mental health promotion in recent years, the stigma regarding mental health promotion for athletes still remains. Athletes at all levels face immense pressures from their sport which has the potential to lead to chronic stress and mental health conditions that can lead to a decrease in athletic performance and potential sports injuries. In dealing with this, athletes may not have the necessary resources and may be stigmatized for addressing their mental health. In order to keep athletes healthy and performing at the highest level, we must break down the stigma regarding mental health promotion for athletes. In addition to breaking the stigma, resources for mental health counseling must be increased, athletic cultures and communications improved, and regularly screening athletes for mental health conditions. Mental health promotion must be de-stigmatized for athletes as it is necessary for sports injury prevention and peak athletic performance.","PeriodicalId":50132,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Medical Research","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135989219","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most of the environmental chemical compounds mentioned in study show structural resemblance with thyroid hormones. Therefore, these chemicals can mimic the activity of thyroid hormones. Some chemical compounds also exhibit other mechanism; however, the exact mechanism of action is not cleared yet. Most commonly these chemicals include a dose dependent inhibition of thyroid hormones. No doubt these chemical compounds have beneficial roles at industrial scale where these are used in the preparation of various useful things but we cannot ignore their life-threatening consequences.","PeriodicalId":50132,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Medical Research","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135989554","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We need to predict the risk sooner due to the intrinsic propensity for CVD in Indians, increased prevalence in South Indians, and PCOS patients. The objectives are: 1. To elicit the presence of CVD risk factor in pcos patients 2. Considering CIMT (Carotid Intima Media Thickness) as a good predictor for CVD risk Methods: A total of 50 cases and 50 age and weight (+/-2 kg) matched controls were included in this study. We assessed the CIMT by the Doppler system with electrical linear transducer midfrequency of 10 MHz. Results: Women with PCOS had a greater CIMT (0.05 ± 0.01 cm in cases vs. 0.03 ± 0 cm in controls; p < 0.001). The CIMT of the cases is increased over their controls by 42.4% (014mm), P ≤0.001. The r value of age and CIMT is more when compared to the r value of weight and CIMT in both cases and controls (Age and CIMT: cases: r= 0.431 & controls: r =0.312) (Weight and CIMT: cases: r = 0.164 & controls: r =0.233). Conclusion: In PCOS , CIMT is a good indicator of CVD risk. When opposed to an individual's weight, age shows a stronger positive correlation with CIMT. Hence, PCOS patients must get an early CIMT scan. CIMT must be a crucial component of PCOS management and CVD risk alleviation.","PeriodicalId":50132,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Medical Research","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135989555","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The emergent concerns have provoked investigations into the management of AUH. While there are existing reviews discussing the pharmacological treatment of AUH based on randomized controlled trials, an updated review specifically focusing on the safety and effectiveness of pharmacological interventions in real-world settings for AUH is currently lacking. For that reason, the objective of this review was to provide a comprehensive summary of the existing evidence extracted from the available research studies that focused on the safety and effectiveness of the adopted medical treatment approaches for AUH in real-world settings. Based on the analysis verdicts, benzbromarone appeared to be the most effective urate-lowering therapy (ULT) in achieving the desired serum uric acid (sUA) levels and in lowering the incidence of initial gout flares. Febuxostat also demonstrated valuable effectiveness in our analysis. On the other hand, based on the safety of the popular allopurinol medication, one real-world study identified skin-related adverse effects associated with it. However, it is important to note that the studies included in the analysis were predominantly conducted in Japan and Taiwan, which limits the generalizability of these findings. To enhance the applicability of the review outcomes, future global studies should cover a wider assortment of populations from various countries and regions.","PeriodicalId":50132,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Medical Research","volume":"72 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135989558","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The review brings together the findings of various studies to provide information into the predominant rates of SMM and PTSD, risk factors, systems, and pathways, the impact on maternal health, and recommendations for clinical practice. The review uncovers that ladies with SMM are bound to foster PTSD, which essentially affects their mental prosperity and in general maternal prosperity. This review discusses the meanings of deliberate screening and assessment, evidence-based contraception and intercession philosophies, and efforts to detect the psychological effects of SMM by close-to-home welfare and maternal welfare providers. Regardless, there are locales in which additional investigation is expected, for instance, studying the suitability of interventions, filling in data openings, and checking out the effect of various peoples and social characteristics. By keeping an eye on these gaps, researchers can advance the field and encourage assigned interventions to lessen the effects of SMM and PTSD, ultimately transforming outcomes for women and their families.","PeriodicalId":50132,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Medical Research","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45649154","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
