Their treatment remains controversial. The aim of this work was to describe the epidemiological profile and evaluate the results obtained after their surgical treatment in the department. Patients and Methods : This was a retrospective study conducted from May 2016 to May 2018, at the Owendo University Teaching Hospital. The study included all patients admitted to the department for diaphyseal fracture of one or both bones of the forearm, treated surgically and regularly followed in outpatient consultation. Results: A total of 52 patients were collected. There were 39 men (75%) and 13 women (25%). The average age was 38.0 years with extremes of 16 and 60 years. Road traffic accidents constituted the most frequent etiology with 73.1% (n = 38). Fractures were closed in 78% (n = 41). Simultaneous damage to both bones of the forearm was noted in 78.8% (n = 41). The fracture line was transverse in 78.8% (n = 41). The middle third was the most common site with 78.8% (n = 41). The average intervention duration varied between 65 and 120 minutes. Fractures operated by screw plate consolidated at the 12 th post-operative week. The anatomical and functional result was generally satisfactory at 96.1%. Conclusion : diaphyseal fractures of the forearm bones are common in the department and are the prerogative of young adult males. Support by screwed plate or intramedullary pinning gave generally satisfactory results.","PeriodicalId":498085,"journal":{"name":"National journal of clinical orthopaedics","volume":"39 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140517832","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although many methods for treatment are available, there is no consensus on the optimal treatment. Aim of the study was to evaluate the long-term efficacy of proximolateral matrix partial excision in the treatment of ingrowing toenail. Materials and Methods: In this study a total of 60 patients with ingrowing toenail were enrolled, who were managed with proximolateral matrix partial excision. The patients were evaluated 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 3 months and 6 months after the surgery. Patients’ satisfaction with the general appearance of their nails was investigated at the 6-month follow-up. Visual analog scale (VAS) was used for pain evaluation. Results: The healing time and recurrence were the primary indicators described before. In this study we did not record any postoperative complications or complaints about the cosmetic outcome. The mean healing period was 9.2 (6-15) days. There were only 2 recurrence of ingrown toenail, observed 6 months after treatment. The success rate after 6 months was thus 97%. Conclusion: Proximolateral matrix partial excision for the treatment of ingrown toenails is highly effective and the treatment of choice at our clinic because of its high success rate.","PeriodicalId":498085,"journal":{"name":"National journal of clinical orthopaedics","volume":"7 11","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140519768","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Early and accurate diagnosis is important as talar integrity is required for optimal function of the ankle. Osteochondral lesions of the talus (OTL) are among those injuries that we should not fail to recognize, especially following any type of hind foot injury. In our study Forty patients with unexplained post traumatic chronic ankle pain were included and after thorough clinical evaluation and radiography were advised MRI Ankle to look for the possible causes of the pain. Three (7.5%) of the patients were reported as Osteochondral lesions of the talus which were initially missed as being normal on ankle radiographs. This study reveals that a high index of suspicion has to be kept for OCTs in patients with ankle pain following any hind-foot trauma","PeriodicalId":498085,"journal":{"name":"National journal of clinical orthopaedics","volume":"33 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140519538","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Anterior Drawer test, The Lachmans test and the pivot shift test have gained special recognition and should be performed in cases of unstable knee with suspected ACL injury. It is generally accepted that the Lachmans test has the highest sensitivity and the pivot shift test has the highest specificity. This Study was carried out to find out the sensitivity and specificity of the above mentioned tests and their efficiency in our clinical setting. Patients and Methods: This prospective cohort study was conducted at Govt. Hospital for Bones and Joints surgery, an affiliated Hospital of Government Medical College Srinagar, From June 2020 to December 2022. We included 26 patients of symptomatic ACL tear in the age group of 18-50 years. The knees were physically examined and Lachmans test and Pivot Shift test were performed and findings recorded. The physical examination findings were compared to the Arthroscopic and MRI findings. Sensitivity and specificity were calculated. Statistical analysis was done using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 21.0. Results: Total 26 patients were evaluated and analysed including 25 males and 1 female. The mean age was 36.5 years. The right knee was affected in 17 (65.30%) patients and the left knee was affected in 9 (34.6%). Mode of injury was sports related in 12 (46.15%), road traffic accident in 9 (34.6%), and fall in 5 (19.23%). The Lachmans test was a sensitive test (88%) as compared to Pivot Shift (60%) in diagnosing ACL tears. We found out the specificity of pivot shift test to be 96% which was quite high as compared to the Lachmans Test 82%. Conclusion: We were able to establish that the Pivot shift test had a high Specificity but a low sensitivity in diagnosing ACL injuries. Both the sensitivity and specificity of Lachman’s test was high, albeit the specificity was less as compared to the Pivot shift test.","PeriodicalId":498085,"journal":{"name":"National journal of clinical orthopaedics","volume":"22 8","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140526770","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
