The overarching goal is to attain a competitive edge by reducing costs and enhancing service quality. It underscores the significant impact of total logistics costs, encompassing transportation, facility, and inventory expenses, on a company's competitiveness. By harmonizing inventory and distribution policy decisions, businesses can streamline costs and enhance their ability to respond effectively to market demands. The effectiveness of this integration is illustrated through a practical example involving a scenario of single supply and multiple demands. Moreover, the study examines the pivotal role of Vendor Managed Inventory in optimizing inventory management throughout the supply chain. Additionally, it explores the utilization of the Traveling Salesman Problem to streamline transportation expenses. Through the adoption of this integrated approach, organizations can realize cost efficiencies and bolster their responsiveness, ultimately strengthening their competitive position within the industry.","PeriodicalId":496121,"journal":{"name":"International journal of managing value and supply chains","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141336443","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With the rapid adoption of “smart” mobile technologies, customers now acquire merchandise across multiple channels and devices. As a result, retailers are challenged with downstream operational complexities. Fulfillment of customer orders now changes the placement and amount of independent demand inventory organizations may hold. Our research integrates the use of Hub or Fulfillment Centers, locations where sellers fill customer orders placed through e-commerce, as an additional segment of demand. This adaptation to the optimization of Transshipment can result in significant benefits to the firm’s logistics presence, customer retention, and profit.","PeriodicalId":496121,"journal":{"name":"International journal of managing value and supply chains","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140367115","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two quantitative studies, employing Proof of Concept and Pilot Project approaches, focused on identifying alternative sources for critical imports during disasters and assessing Puerto Rico's alignment with America’s Supply Chains priorities. Qualitative methods contextualized findings, addressing international trade constraints and value leakages caused by the US Jones Act. During import disruptions, the Greater Caribbean emerged as a vital alternative network for Puerto Rico, with Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Panama, and the US Virgin Islands playing crucial roles. Puerto Rico's prominence in lithium supply chains (exporting 90% of pacemakers) and pharmaceuticals, aligned with America’s Supply Chains priorities, highlights the impact of international trade constraints on supply chains. The study emphasizes the need for comprehensive mapping and adaptive strategies, noting challenges due to the absence of dedicated institutions for informed decisionmaking.","PeriodicalId":496121,"journal":{"name":"International journal of managing value and supply chains","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140368399","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In today’s world, when technology is advancing each day at an astonishing rate, any organization must have a detailed knowledge and understanding of its current state of machinery, the number of resources spent on the production floor to maintain equipment reliability, and resource allocation. CMMS is a critical and powerful tool that assists and helps any manufacturing industry to make full use of its capabilities, manage or direct workforce, improve the machine reliability, find innovative ways to improve productivity, stay in compliance with food and dietary regulatory standards as per the safe quality foods (SQF) and national sanitation foundation (NSF) standards and achieve series of goal and benefits the organization overall. Today, the food and beverage industry has grown tremendously and is the backbone of the manufacturing industry. Every company looks at creative ways to help them excel by selecting a reliable CMMS that suits their operations and processes to make educated decisions by monitoring their KPIs. This theoretical study aims to provide a building framework to set up plant maintenance modules to manage work orders, including emergency breakdowns and scheduled maintenance repairs in the food and beverage industry.","PeriodicalId":496121,"journal":{"name":"International journal of managing value and supply chains","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140366953","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As numerous restaurants and food service companies closed their doors amidst the public health crisis, millions of employees across this important – and large – part of the American economy found themselves jobless. This research seeks to uncover the sizeable impacts of the pandemic on employment trends and job insecurity in the restaurant and food service sector using longitudinal data from the United States Census Bureau. Through exploration of overall pre- and post-pandemic income trends, employment disparities across job categories in the restaurant business, and volatile metrics such as turnover and outmigration, combined into a new metric, the “Churn Rate” in occupations, the researchers offer insight into the changing trajectory of food culture and what it truly means to “dine out.” Future economic implications – for the food service value chain overall and for consumers - are summarily explored and suggestions for further research are offered.","PeriodicalId":496121,"journal":{"name":"International journal of managing value and supply chains","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135470157","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
