For a prospective user of the network, we provide details on its operation and mention certain caveats potentially affecting observations taken under the control of Skynet software. The actual performance of the network is demonstrated by long-term observations of two blazars: OJ 49 and 3C 279. We show their photometric light curves acquired with a subset of Skynet telescopes in the 2018/19 observing seasons. Preliminary results of the analysis of the variability of these two targets are given, including the quantitative properties of light variations and the periods of possible Quasi Periodic Oscillations (QPOs) found in the seasonal light curves.","PeriodicalId":49602,"journal":{"name":"Revista Mexicana de Astronomia y Astrofisica","volume":"59 12 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75991933","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"物理与天体物理","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In 1975 a laser station was installed at ROA in collaboration with the French CERGA (Centre de Recherches en Géodynamique et Astrométrie). Since 1980, ROA has operated that station by their own. This equipment routinely tracks artificial satellites equipped with retro-reflectors. In 2014 ROA opened a new field of research: tracking of artificial satellites currently not active and equipped with retroreflectors. This new area was a challenge given the poor orbital accuracies that are available for these objects as they were not tracked on a routine basis. This served as an approach to our final goal: to strictly monitor space debris, this is, any type of uncontrolled man-made orbiting objects. To fulfill the objective, since 2017, we made significant changes to our laser installation. The most important was the replacement of the old laser bench with two new ones. One transmitting 500 mW-pulses, and another laser bench with 25 W transmission power. The study for the installation of the later laser was financed through European Union (EU) H2020 fundings and granted by the Spanish Centre for Industrial Technological Development (CDTI). Although it allows the tracking of collaborative objects, it is ideal for tracking non-collaborative too. Tracking activities begin in November 2017. From then onward, non-collaborative objects are monitored on a regular basis. This work shows the modifications already made, and the results obtained until 2019.","PeriodicalId":49602,"journal":{"name":"Revista Mexicana de Astronomia y Astrofisica","volume":"41 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80769008","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"物理与天体物理","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An adaptive controller is designed to overcome wind disturbance as a set and forget system. The mathematical model is derived based on 2-DOF alt-azimuth configuration. The wind disturbance is modeled as a sum of sinusoidal with unknown amplitude, frequency and phase by using Wind-Gust model. The controller aims to cancel the effect of the disturbance on the altitude and azimuth angles of the telescope while positioning or staying static on a dedicated configuration. The asymptotic stability is proven with the Lyapunov approach. The numerical study is illustrated to success of the proposed controller.","PeriodicalId":49602,"journal":{"name":"Revista Mexicana de Astronomia y Astrofisica","volume":"21 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82112230","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"物理与天体物理","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This will enable the development of new observational and analytical processes for astronomy and astrophysics. Observations will be scheduled via Internet, including projects requiring long-term ongoing monitoring. Data can be accessed rapidly following scheduled observations. We study their dynamical and physical properties in relation to their activity for a better understanding of cometary evolution. This observing campaign was part of PTF in its intermediate phase (iPTF) at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). The photometric sample comprises more than 180 comets, which makes it one of the largest samples studied to-date. We present a new approach to identifying active comets that compares subtracted aperture magnitudes of comets with the distribution of stars of similar brightness in each image. In this paper, we present initial findings on cometary activity in relationship to their perihelion distances. We show differences between the distributions of the SPCs and that of the LPCs. As others predicted, it seems that a larger fraction of LPCs are found to be active at larger perihelia than for the SPCs. We look at ratios of active comets in different perihelia brackets and compare those to previous works and results. We do not discuss the statistical significance of our findings as this is still work in progress.","PeriodicalId":49602,"journal":{"name":"Revista Mexicana de Astronomia y Astrofisica","volume":"146 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83222215","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"物理与天体物理","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
