In this paper, we presented the reconstruction and analysis of debris flows at two valleys located on the Tenextepecuaco mountain in the Sierra Norte de Puebla, based on geomorphologic and dendrogeomorphic methods. From 37 Juniperus deppeana trees we made a Local Reference Chronology, also to dating and mapping the debris flow events and finally for determine the stability/instability of the landforms using the age of the trees. The comparative analysis of the maximum rainfall series in 24 hours, for the period from May to October from 1992 to 2013, and the tree-ring width index suggested that in August 2007 and August 2010 two channels of the western valley were reactivated triggered by heavy rainfall amounting 93 and 56 mm, respectively. As a result of such event, some tree-rings series recorded a growth suppression, and that was also observed in satellite images by Google EarthTM through changes in the vegetation cover. Other trees showed a less growth suppressions in 2013 and the channels were kept active. Since 2014, some trees showed a growth release, and recolonization of trees was also identified in the satellite imagery by Google EarthTM, suggesting an apparent geomorphological stability. The applied methodology showed the potential of Juniperus deppeana to be used for dendrogeomorphic studies in México, also in others geomorphic context. Additionally, particular results of the study can contribute to the existing efforts on prevention and mitigation of natural hazards within the regional context.

The average measurement of the radon gas concentration of 86 stations distributed in the city of Morelia is 4028.56 Bq/m3. In addition, a variographic analysis was carried out for 222Rn gas concentrations data to determine the possible existence of anisotropy. From this analysis it is inferred that the radon gas in the city of Morelia presents a hybrid anisotropy, with preferential direction N50°E, which suggests that the spatial distribution is driven by the extensional stress field on the Morelia-Acambay fault system (σ2=NE-SW y σ3=NW-SE). Using the natural neighbor interpolation method, a map of the radon gas concentrations in the urban area was constructed to visualize its distribution. Its chemical composition is sensitive to the crystallization environment, allowing a characterization of either metabasic or metasedimentary protoliths in metamorphic rocks. Thanks to the capability to accept U in its crystalline network, at least in metasedimentary, high-grade protoliths, rutile can be dated by U-Pb geochronology. Furthermore, its closure temperature of ca. 600 °C for the U-Pb system makes rutile a suitable chronometer, complementary to zircon, to unravel provenance and exhumation paths in both sedimentary siliciclastic cover and basement units. Besides, the Zr-in thermometer allows for a very precise calculation of the rutile crystallization temperature. \u0000In the example case presented here, focused on granulite facies units of the Grenvillian Oaxacan Complex (OC), rutile crystallisation took place in the range 808–873 °C. Data for different localities indicate that cooling and exhumation after the Zapotecan granulite facies event (ca. 990 Ma) was heterogeneous among the different tectonic slices that constitute the OC. Cooling occurred in the central sector (Nochixtlán-Oaxaca) right after the granulite peak, with fast cooling rates of ca. 40 °C/Ma. To the north and south, the cooling to ca. 600 °C was much slower, with calculated cooling rates of ca. 3 °C/Ma for the northern OC outcrops in Coatepec (Puebla) to ca. 6 °C/Ma south of Ejutla (Oaxaca). This can be related to a combination of factors, such as an early collapse of some sectors of the orogen, a change of conditions in the subducing plate, or more in general, to a sudden change in the geodynamic conditions during the Zapotecan orogeny and Amazonia-Baltica amalgamation. \u0000This application example to some metasedimentary lithologies belonging to the OC demonstrates how the exhumation after the Zapotecan granulite facies event (ca. 990 Ma) was heterogeneous among the different tectonic slices that compose the OC, having occurred in the central sector (Nochixtlán-Oaxaca) right after the granulite peak, with fast cooling rates of ca. 40 ºC/M.y., whereas to the North and South the cooling to ca. 600 ºC was much slower, with calculated cooling rates of ca. 3 ºC/M.y. (north, OC outcrops in Coatepec, Puebla) to ca. 5.5 ºC/M.y. south of Ejutla (Oaxaca). This can be related to a combination of factors, such as an early collapse of some sectors of the orogen, change of conditions in the subjecting plate, or more in general, to a sudden change in the geodynamic conditions during the early stages of the Rodinia amalgamation. \u0000This example sharply illustrates the advantage of employing microanalytical techniques, able to resolve restricted crystal-domain chemical variations, to obtain accurate and precise temperature and age values. The basal part of the Cupido Formation exhibits a progradational reef platform that, at the upper limit, is truncated by a sequence boundary defined by a breccia. This breccia marks the development of a peculiar sedimentary facies informally known as the Cupidito unit, a distinctive stratigraphical unit in northeastern Mexico that remained uninterpreted for decades. Through the analysis of facies, microfacies and stable isotope comparisons from representative localities (Potrero Chico, Potrero de García, La Huasteca, La Muralla and Puerto Mexico) and from other previously reported outcrops, this work describes six diagnostic features for Cupidito and an improved stratigraphic model is proposed. The depositional sequence suggests a broad flat-topped platform with a general low organic productivity and restricted conditions followed by recurrent inundations of lagoon waters. Before drowning, this carbonate platform remained under equilibrium conditions interrupted by short pulses of relative higher-temperatures (48.3 °C and 39.2 °C). Coral-rudist-stromatoporoid patch-reefs with inferred inter-tropical temperatures between 31.5 °C and 32.2 °C originated as a progradational response to the instauration of a new Sequence Boundary at the base of Cupidito.

Fourier analysis of the potential fields allows us estimating the Curie point depth (CPD). The variation of the depth to the Curie point is an indicator of lithospheric thermal anomalies, some of which would be associated with variations in lithospheric thickness linked to the phenomena that took place during the separation of the Gondwana continent and opening of the South Atlantic Ocean, such as basins and transfer zones. Maps of Curie point depth and thermal flow were made. These maps were correlated with an isostatically compensated crust 3D model and a crust-upper mantle discontinuity depth 3D model, calculated by gravimetric inversion. This comparative analysis allowed us to interpret tectonic structures, crustal thickness and isostatic decompensation degree on the study area. Higher depths to the Curie point were obtained in the continental crust zone (between 30 and 15 km, approximately) than in the oceanic zone (between 25 and 10 km, approximately). On the continental crust, the shallowest values were found in the offshore basins sectors, in the oceanic crust, the deepest values are below the crust-upper mantle discontinuity level.
