While this is readily accepted by many to date, it raises several questions about where the \"past\" belongs. This is a crucial reflection in trying to realign with the above approach, namely with respect to socio-cultural and spiritual perspectives. The former is to allow the traditional and indigenous concepts to be embraced more \"naturally\" within the diverse cultural contexts, whereas the latter is to enable each of the socio-cultural context be connected in more holistic ways as part of the shared human heritage. Cumulatively, it forms a continuum framework with a deeper understanding of \"sustainability\" as a living journey since time immemorial for better quality of life encompassing humanity as a whole. That is, the \"whole of humanity\" approach. The presentation will argue how this can be done for a wider and more comprehensive application of sustainability for all.","PeriodicalId":495569,"journal":{"name":"AIJR Proceedings","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136360362","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

People are expected to wash their hands at offices, shopping centers, hospitals, and other public areas to prevent COVID-19 virus transmission. As the demand grows, there are more opportunities for people in local communities to produce hand soaps contributing to the high-quality hand soap needs fulfillment. The production method is effective, economically beneficial, and does not irritate the skin. Thus, hand soap production training (both online and offline), branding, and marketing were provided to achieve this objective. Several parties participated in the online activity, such as the Department of Chemistry's Chemical Physics Laboratory Employees, the Maxi Consulting Team, and the Head of HIPPI DIY--the event was also published in Majalah Kagama. The offline training was conducted in Ganjuran, Sleman, and Kasihan Bantul, as the midwives and women's groups participated. The branding and marketing training program had also been conducted four times (once online and thrice offline), along with monitoring activities to track marketing progress.","PeriodicalId":495569,"journal":{"name":"AIJR Proceedings","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136360634","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Almost all beach tourists will look forward to enjoying fresh coconut water under the hot beach atmosphere. High coconut consumption in tourist areas greatly benefits the economy of traders in tourist areas. On the other hand, it creates a problem due to increased coconut waste. Coconut waste is large and difficult to decompose, resulting in a buildup that could disrupt coastal tourism. Goa Cemara Beach in Bantul, Yogyakarta, is one of the areas affected by coconut waste accumulation, hence warranting proper management of coconut shell waste. Coconut shell waste Management is expected to be a new source of income for the local community. Community service activities are carried out to apply coconut waste processing technology. This technology is carried out to overcome the problem of accumulation of waste and utilize waste as a support for sustainable agriculture. Applying this waste treatment technology involves two community groups, namely the “Pantai Goa Cemara” tourism awareness group and the “Tani Raharjo” farmer's group. Each group has a synergistic role in the processing and utilization of waste. The Goa Cemara Beach tourism awareness group, processes the destruction of coconut shell waste with a mill. The crushed coconut shell waste will produce small pieces. Sorting the crushed coconut waste will produce two forms, namely cocopeat, and cocofiber. Laboratory tests are carried out to see the content of cocopeat and the safe amount that can be applied to agriculture. Laboratory results showed organic matter 19.51-28.70%, Nitrogen 0.69-0.88%, Phosphorus 0.40-0.58%, Potassium 0.26-0.33%, and pH 7.66-7.95 depending on the age of the waste. Community service activities are carried out to utilize cocopeat to become an environmentally friendly seedling medium. Seedling media with cocopeat printed in squares can sow plant seeds. This box media is often called a soil block and does not require small plastic pots for seeds. Thus, it can reduce plastic waste on agricultural land. In addition, the utilization of processed coconut shell waste can support sustainable agriculture.","PeriodicalId":495569,"journal":{"name":"AIJR Proceedings","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136360744","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

On the other hand, it caused uncontrolled development on the south coast of Yogyakarta. Increased tourism activities in the form of tourism-supporting facilities, such as hotels, restaurants, and other land conversions, can potentially impact environmental degradation. This degradation is reflected mainly in the form of rising temperatures and problems with water resources. This activity is one form of effort to develop the tourism sector in the Poncosari village as well as coastal conservation. The main focus of this activity is spatial planning of coastal tourism in the coastal village of Poncosari, which is oriented towards pro-climate tourism and strengthening of pro-climate institutions at the village level in supporting the coastal tourism sector of Poncosari village. The activity resulted in coastal spatial zoning facilitating several functions, including family tourism zones, cruising tours, camping tours, support zones, and protected zones. Family tourism zones are focused on border tourism, while cruise tours cover a broader and longer area consisting of various tourist attractions accompanied by bicycle and electric scooter routes. The campsite tourism zone is focused on areas that are more protruding inland so that they are protected from strong winds and accompanied by camping support facilities. The supporting zone is focused on culinary tourism and displaying MSME products in Poncosari Village. Meanwhile, the protected zone is focused on environmental conservation, especially turtles. The village government also supported the development of coastal tourism in Poncosari Village through a tourism awareness group (Pokdarwis) at the village level.","PeriodicalId":495569,"journal":{"name":"AIJR Proceedings","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136360745","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Part of the Gunungkidul area is also part of a geopark designated by UNESCO, which has become a tourist destination. However, the management of geosites as tourist destinations has not been prioritized as aspects of the geosite as a geological heritage full of earth scientific knowledge. The village of Ngoro-oro, as a buffer area for the ancient Nglanggeran volcano, has enormous potential to develop geo-based tourism. Through surveys and in-depth interviews, this article measures the community’s perception of the development of natural resource-based tourism, especially geology. The measurement of perception parameters is seen from knowledge, such as the concept of special interest tourism, ecotourism, geotourism, natural resource potential, sociocultural potential, attractions, and stakeholders involvements, along with the aspect of awareness. The aspect of awareness is seen through the benefits felt by the community, negative impacts, and factors that influence tourism development in Ngoro-oro. Based on the survey results, it was known that 35% of respondents understood the concepts of special interest tourism and ecotourism, while 30% of respondents understood the concept of geotourism, and 65% of respondents were able to identify the potential of natural resource-based and sociocultural tourism in the area. There were 52% of respondents also understand the attractions that can be developed to support tourism. The stakeholders who play a role in tourism development in this area were identified as 6, namely Tourism Awareness Groups, Village Owned Enterprises (BUMDES), Jurug Gedhe Tourism Services Cooperative, youth group (Karangtaruna), Village Government, and the community. Based on the awareness aspect, only 39% stated that tourism activities benefited the community, and 13% stated that tourism activities had a negative impact.","PeriodicalId":495569,"journal":{"name":"AIJR Proceedings","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136360860","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The critical issue is to have a clear understanding on what SD and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) are about, and on the transformative societal actions they entail in the interface of the development and knowledge sectors. The role of higher education is to bring closer together science and SD. There have been positive trends to the effect that SD is being integrated into education, and vice versa, and ESD cuts across formal, non-formal and informal education sectors; but major works remain in accelerating and upscaling sustainable actions, as well as in having policy coherence on ESD across sectors and subsectors aligned with the roadmap to sustainability in higher education. The launching of the UN Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has shifted the focus of the ESD approach to one that enables and supports the implementation of the SDGs. Unfortunately, according to the UN ESCAP 2022 Report on SDG Progress, as of now, none of the SDGs are on track for 2030. None of the SDGs hit the 2021 timeline, and the full achievements of the targets based on current trajectories are getting delayed, especially on Climate Action (SDG 13) which is regressing. For effective SDG implementation, Quality Education (SDG 4; SDG 4.7 on ESD) and Partnership (SDG 17) are both enablers and integrators to be embedded in all implementation programs across the board. To be effective, SDG implementation needs to be rooted in community and local stakeholders’ engagements. SDGs must be localized, underpinned by local values, culture and heritage, focusing on holistic, whole-community approach, and transdisciplinary problem solving. The UNESCO ‘ESD for 2030’ Roadmap provides guidance through five priority action areas - Advancing Policy; Transforming learning environments; Building capacity of educators and trainers; Empowering and mobilizing youth; and Accelerating sustainable solutions at local level (community engagement). Two flagship initiatives of the United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS) illustrate important roles of higher education in SD and community engagement - one is a network of higher education institutions known as the Promotion of Sustainability in Postgraduate Education and Research Network (ProSPER.Net); and the other is a regional/local network of organizations, the Regional Centres of Expertise on ESD (RCEs).","PeriodicalId":495569,"journal":{"name":"AIJR Proceedings","volume":"86 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136360865","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Limited land is one of the obstacles in cultivating catfish, one of which is in the Karanggayam area, Caturtunggal. A method that can be used to cultivate catfish on narrow lands is the Budikdamber method, stands for “budi daya ikan dalam ember” in Bahasa which means fish farming in buckets. Using artificial feed in this fish farming method makes the bucket dirty faster and has a high economic value. Insect-based feeds such as maggot are cheaper alternatives, have high nutritional value, and do not pollute the water used in fish cultivation. This program aims to provide an understanding to the public regarding the development of alternative fish feed from maggots. This community service program was carried out in collaboration with the Kuncup Mekar Women Farmers Group in Karanggayam hamlet, Caturtunggal, Depok, Sleman, Yogyakarta. Based on the results of this service, the community is enthusiastic about participating in the maggot development program as an alternative feed for catfish farming in buckets in Karanggayam. The community feels the benefits of this program, including new knowledge and understanding of maggot cultivation as a whole to be used as an alternative feed with high protein nutrition and relatively cheap and easy-to-do cultivation costs. This supports catfish cultivation in buckets by fulfilling alternative feeds from maggots. The advice for further activities is to hold massive maggot cultivation assistance at KWT Kuncup Mekar and increase catfish and maggot production.","PeriodicalId":495569,"journal":{"name":"AIJR Proceedings","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136360118","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The mangrove forests along the shore of Kampung Laut, most notably those located in the Ujung Alang Village, are kept in pristine form because of the numerous and varied types of mangrove plantation activities that are carried out there. The local people are currently utilizing mangrove plants as a source of food (certain parts of the plant) and building materials (the stems). On the other hand, its use as a natural dye source is not yet common enough to be considered a significant industry. So, the mangrove forest ecosystem can be protected through the Sustainable Utilization of Mangrove Forests for the Production of Natural Dyes with a Zero Waste System, which includes: (1) the preparation and completion of a natural dye production unit based on the right technology for Kampung Laut village; (2) the preparation and completion of the production unit to produce charcoal briquettes and liquid smoke from mangrove waste as a new and innovative use for mangrove waste; and (3) the preparation and completion of the production unit to produce naturally.","PeriodicalId":495569,"journal":{"name":"AIJR Proceedings","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136360242","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The abundance of manure can be used as a local commodity that has the potential to be a business opportunity for local communities through youth farmer groups. At present, the abundance has not been optimally utilized. Its use is only sown directly into the land, which can have several implications, including reduced nutrient content due to volatilization and lack of practical use. Managing manure into packaged fermented organic fertilizer makes its use more practical, effective, and efficient. The increase in the use of fermented organic fertilizers also can reduce agricultural production costs, such as purchasing chemical fertilizers. The purpose of this program was to assist Ngudi Boga's youth farmer group in managing manure into packaged fermented organic manure, which is marketable and partly used by themselves. Aerobic composting was applied. Raw materials, including manure, foliage, and other local organic matter, were used. The fertilizer samples were analyzed for nutrient content. It has produced 375 packs (5 kg/pack) of ready-to-use fermented organic fertilizer, equivalent to ± 1.76 tons. It was >75% of production sold by the limited local markets. Future improvement efforts related to increasing the capacity of grinding machines and developing a profit-sharing system with the village community need to be carried out.","PeriodicalId":495569,"journal":{"name":"AIJR Proceedings","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136360361","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
