Utilising bibliometric analysis, we examined a selected set of 58 papers from the Scopus database, focusing on the study conducted between 2015 and 2022 that explored the interconnection of social media, mental health, and youth. We gained insights into the most significant contributions in this domain by assessing citations, publication locations, relevance within the research network, and influential articles and authors. Additionally, we conducted a thorough analysis of topics, identified barriers to expansion discussed in the literature, and recommended potential avenues for further investigation. The data was processed using the Publish or Perish software, while the researchers used a VOS viewer for data visualisation. Statistical analysis was performed using Microsoft Excel. The study presents a comprehensive bibliometric analysis, including trends in publication growth, research output, and citation analysis. Our search yielded 58 documents, with an increasing trend observed in studies on social media, mental health, and youth. English dominated most research papers, primarily published in journals and conference proceedings. The writers Moreno, M.A., Nicholas, J., Twenge, J.M., and Vishwakarma, D.K. are recognized as the most productive authors. The United States has emerged as the leading nation in publishing output. The survey lists the most significant academic centres, such as Florida State University, California State University, Fullerton, and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Two significant thematic clusters are revealed by keyword analysis: one focusing on the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, internet use, and depression on young people's mental health, and the other investigating the relationships between elements like depressive symptoms, suicide, relationships, and social media use. The study suggests that theoretical frameworks like Social Cognitive Theory (SCT) and the Transactional Model of Stress and Coping can aid in understanding the mechanisms through which social media impacts mental health outcomes among youth. The practical implications of this analysis include the need for targeted interventions and support systems, such as digital literacy programs. The study underlines the necessity for continued research to improve our comprehension of how social media affects young people's mental health and to guide the creation of efficient interventions and regulations.","PeriodicalId":493103,"journal":{"name":"Social and management research journal","volume":"39 3","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136132865","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"The effects of environmental pollution on food security in Malaysia","authors":"","doi":"10.24191/smrj.v20i2.24317","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.24191/smrj.v20i2.24317","url":null,"abstract":"Environmental pollution has emerged as a critical global challenge, significantly affecting various aspects of human life, including food security. This research paper investigates the effects of environmental pollution on agricultural output (a proxy for food security) in Malaysia from 1990 to 2020, utilising the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) method. The results obtained from the bounds cointegration testing approach provided strong evidence supporting the existence of a long-term relationship among Methane emissions in the energy sector (thousand metric tons of CO2 equivalent) (CH4), Carbon dioxide emissions (metric tons per capita) (CO2), Nitrous oxide emissions in the energy sector (thousand metric tons of CO2 equivalent) (N2O), GDP, population, index of agricultural total factor productivity, and agricultural output. Estimation of long-run and short-run ARDL with diagnostic and model stability reveals that there is a positive correlation between the index of agricultural total factor productivity (TFP) and agricultural output in Malaysia in all four of the models analysed. The discoveries illuminate the possible mechanisms by which environmental pollution affects food security in Malaysia, offering valuable insights to policymakers and stakeholders for crafting effective strategies toward sustainable development. By uncovering the implications of environmental degradation on food availability, access, and nutritional quality, the study highlights the urgency of addressing environmental challenges to ensure long-term food security for the Malaysian population. Moreover, the study can serve as a basis for formulating sustainable policies that promote resource conservation, waste management, and eco-friendly practices in the agricultural and industrial sectors, fostering a harmonious coexistence between economic development and environmental preservation.","PeriodicalId":493103,"journal":{"name":"Social and management research journal","volume":"35 2","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136133041","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study investigates into the formidable challenge of public speaking anxiety (PSA) among students during oral presentations and proposes an innovative solution through the utilisation of Poetry Out Loud activities. Two interventions were executed with ESL learners and the researchers used qualitative methods to deduce the result. The initial phase involved the collective reading of a poetry compilation, fostering a shared experience. Subsequently, students engaged with the \"Hello Poetry\" website, selecting and practicing poems in pairs to refine expressive delivery. The culmination consisted of creative video presentations of their chosen poems. Once the completed the activities, they were given an open-ended survey. The study uncovers that Poetry Out Loud activities positively influence students’ speaking skills. These findings underscore the efficacy of communal poem reading and interactive recitation in bolstering confidence, oral proficiency, and reading fluency. Implications point toward the importance of innovative strategies to mitigate PSA-related challenges and nurture essential public speaking aptitudes.","PeriodicalId":493103,"journal":{"name":"Social and management research journal","volume":"39 5","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136133043","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This warrants an urgent reassessment of regulations, financial governance, and risk management practices. This research aims to investigate the relationship between Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices and bank performance within emerging Asian economies. Its urgency is underpinned by these recent financial disruptions and the need for resilient banking systems geared for sustainability. By exploring bank-specific performance indicators like the Net Interest Margin (NIM) and Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR), this study offers an approach differentiated from traditional profitability measures, namely Return on Assets (ROA), Return on Equity (ROE), and Tobin's Q. This paper's quantitative approach includes multivariate regression analysis of unbalanced panel data from all publicly listed banks in these economies between 2018 and 2022. This research not only provides reflections on these institutions' performance during a global crisis but also illustrates the imperative for ESG assimilation in bank strategy and operations as a safeguard against future uncertainties.","PeriodicalId":493103,"journal":{"name":"Social and management research journal","volume":"39 2","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136132866","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
