During March-May and August-October 2018, 12 nights were sampled per flowering period using three mist nets of 12 x 2.6 meters. Bats captured were identified, samples of pollen were taken from them which was processed by Erdtman's acetolysis. Three different treatments were applied to evaluate pollination effectiveness (nocturnal exclusion, diurnal exclusion, and control), selecting three flowers in 19 individuals. Leptonycteris yerbuenae (Martínez & Villa, 1940), L. nivalis (Saussure, 1860) and Choeronycteris mexicana (Tschudi, 1844) were the nocturnal floral visitors of S. huastecorum during its two flowering periods, the first species being the most frequently recorded throughout the night. Although this species has flowers with chiropterophilous characteristics, no significant differences were found in the effectiveness of diurnal, nocturnal and control pollinators. Very little is known about the nocturnal floral visitors of S. huastecorum and the effectiveness of its pollinators in the north of its distribution. The chitin synthesis inhibitor flufenoxuron has been reported to potentiate the insecticidal properties of nucleopolyhedrovirus occlusion bodies (OBs) by degrading the integrity of the peritrophic matrix in lepidopteran larvae. In the present study we examined the effect of flufenoxuron treatment on susceptibility of Spodoptera exigua (Hübner) and Spodoptera frugiperda (JE Smith) fifth instars to their homologous nucleopolyhedroviruses, SeMNPV and SfMNPV, respectively. Preliminary bioassays indicated that a 1 mg/l concentration of flufenoxuron resulted in 6.6 - 13.3% mortality of larvae, which could be used in combination with OB inoculum concentrations of 1.5 × 104 OBs/ml of SeMNPV OBs or 1.3 × 10⁶ OBs/ml of SfMNPV OBs. Treatment of larvae with flufenoxuron did not significantly affect virus-induced mortality of either S. exigua (16.7 - 17.2%) or S. frugiperda (28.9 - 34.4%) and had no significant effect on the mean yield of OBs from virus-killed insects of either species. The identity of both SeMNPV and SfMNPV in experimental insects was confirmed by examination of the restriction endonuclease profiles of each virus. These findings contrast with the results of previous studies in which high concentrations of flufenoxuron (100 mg/l) greatly potentiated virus-induced mortality in the silkworm Bombyx mori L., although insect mortality due to flufenoxuron treatment alone was not reported, for reasons that are unclear. El objetivo de este estudio fue estimar la densidad poblacional y la distribución espacial de A. lythrochila en el Centro para la Conservación e Investigación de la Biodiversidad de los Altos de Chiapas (CECIBACH, anteriormente conocido como Estación Biológica San José) en Chiapas, México. Con base en los datos de campo recopilados entre 2017 y 2019, la densidad de población fue de 1.7 individuos/hectárea, lo que se traduce en un tamaño poblacional estimado de 7─89 ejemplares en la totalidad de las 16 hectáreas del CECIBACH. Debido a las actividades humanas que amenazan los bosques de los Altos de Chiapas, junto con la percepción errónea de la especie como peligrosamente venenosa, esta población de A. lythrochila podría estar sufriendo un declive continuo. En este trabajo se analizaron los ensamblajes de escarabajos micetófilos en cuatro localidades ubicadas a lo largo de un gradiente altitudinal de la región central de Chiapas, México. Para el muestreo de escarabajos se utilizaron trampas de caída cebadas con el cuerpo fructífero del hongo Agaricus bisporus previamente fermentado. En total se capturaron 208 individuos que integran 27 especies de las familias Scarabaeidae (Scarabaeinae), Silphidae y Staphylinidae. La diversidad de especies fue baja en comparación con otros atrayentes utilizados para el muestreo de estos grupos de insectos, no obstante, se obtuvo una alta representatividad de especies. De manera general, la diversidad está relacionada con el incremento de la altitud, pero la respuesta fue diferente entre familias. Scarabaeinae estuvo mejor representada en los sitios de menor altitud, caso contrario ocurrió con Staphylinidae que predominó en los sitios de mayor altitud, esto permitió diferenciar tres comunidades de escarabajos a lo largo del gradiente (Dβ = 2.77). A pesar de la baja prevalencia de especies y sus abundancias, estos resultados indican que este tipo de atrayentes pueden ser utilizados por diversas especies y es probable que funcionen como una fuente alterna que permite segregar la competencia por la demanda y la repartición de alimento cuando los recursos preferidos son escasos. Ofrecer un número diverso de recursos alimentarios potenciales, permitiría establecer el espectro trófico de las especies de forma más realista y objetiva. However, frequent applications of insecticides can select for individuals with an alteration in the enzyme and functional changes that result in an insensitivity to insecticides. In Mexico, the current strategy to combat insect vectors such as Culex quinquefasciatus is based mainly on the use of synthetic insecticides. The use of these chemicals in health and agricultural practices may also contribute to mosquito insensitivity to several groups of insecticides. Therefore, it is considered necessary to determine if there is any physiological mechanism associated with resistance. For this reason, the objective of this research was to identify if there is insensitivity of acetylcholinesterase to insecticides in Cx. quinquefasciatus populations, collected in urban and rural areas of the State of Yucatán, Mexico. Enzymatic tests were carried out with slight modifications to the established protocols. Areas were identified with mosquito populations showing acetylcholinesterase insensitivity to propoxur, a carbamate insecticide. El estudio de la bioacústica es, además, una herramienta complementaria en estudios morfológicos tradicionales, ya que estas señales son especie-específicas y permiten diferenciar especies morfológicamente similares (crípticas). Las señales acústicas representan un sistema importante de comunicación intra e interespecífico. Los miembros de la familia Tettigoniidae se destacan por la producción de señales acústicas que frecuentemente son inaudibles al oído humano [frecuencia (f) > de 20 kHz]. México posee una amplia diversidad de insectos, sin embargo, pocos estudios se han enfocado al conocimiento del repertorio acústico de éstos. En este trabajo se describe por primera vez el canto ultrasónico de llamado de Obolopteryx eurycerca Barrientos-Lozano & Rocha-Sánchez, 2016. Ejemplares en estudio se recolectaron en el municipio de Hidalgo, Tamaulipas, México. La señal acústica de llamado de los machos consiste en la producción de equemas de tres sílabas, que se emiten en forma continua por periodos largos de tiempo (± 1h).
