{"title":"Effects of Working Risk Factors on Work Environment Satisfaction for Male Workers at Small Construction Sites","authors":"Jeung-Hoon Hwang, Hye-Sun Jung","doi":"10.35861/kjoh.2023.5.2.51","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.35861/kjoh.2023.5.2.51","url":null,"abstract":"Purpose : Compared to other industries, the construction industry has more risk factors, is more affected by climate, is more mobile, and finds it hard to manage the working environment and workers efficiently. The number of industrial accidents in the construction industry is increasing continuously, and small construction sites with fewer than 50 people account for a high industrial accident rate, so it needs to be managed. Methods : By using the data from the 6th Labor Environment Survey, 1,412 male workers at small-scale construction sites with fewer than 50 workers were selected as the final study target, and the Chi-square test and Logistic regression analysis were conducted to analyze the relationship between occupational risk factors and working environment satisfaction. Results : The study shows that workers, who have been working for more than 10 years(OR=1.712, p=.001), who have no experience of musculoskeletal problems(OR=2.143, p<.001) and fatigue(OR=1.955, p<.001), who work 40 to fewer than 52 hours per week(OR=2.192, p<.001), who are not exposed to noise(OR=1.351, p=.027) and uncomfortable posture(OR=2.312, p=.004), who are not handling heavy objects(OR=1.633, p=.002), who are not under work stress(OR=1.498, p=.018), and who are provided sufficient safety and health information(OR=1.572, p=.001), are satisfied with the working condition. Conclusion : Therefore, it is necessary to operate a preventive and practical musculoskeletal disease management program to improve the satisfaction level of male workers at small construction sites with fewer than 50 employees. It is necessary to expand the provision and posting of safety and health information in the workplace so that construction workers can easily acquire information on safety and health and to develop various educational methods and teaching plans so that construction workers can easily understand safety and health information. By reducing risk factors such as noise and providing and wearing adequate protective equipment, it is necessary to ensure that safety and health management can be appropriately done on-site.","PeriodicalId":488704,"journal":{"name":"Jigeop geongang yeongu","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135988386","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods : Data collection, data pre-processing and data analysis were carried out to analyse perceptions of overwork in the workplace. Results : The study analysed a total of 74,147 news articles and keywords from 590 national newspapers between January 2018 and February 2023 to identify trends in 'workplace overwork'. A time-series analysis of the news articles identified the main issues that occurred in the data from over 70,000 articles and presented them in a time-series chart by month to identify the issues during the period when the number of data increased significantly. However, the time series analysis of the national articles showed that about 110 articles related to 'overwork in the workplace' were published each year, but were judged not to have led to research activities, despite the occurrence of various social problems. Conclusion : The results of this study show that 'work overload' can occur in all occupations and is particularly prevalent among those who work in management and for their own livelihood, so its health effects also need to be managed.","PeriodicalId":488704,"journal":{"name":"Jigeop geongang yeongu","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135988384","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods : Participant recruitment was conducted from August to September 2020, and 10 visiting nurses from three health centres in Gyeonggi-do participated in this study. The interviews were conducted as focus group interviews, with two groups of five participants per group, and two face-to-face interviews each. Data were analysed using qualitative content analysis. Results : Three themes and nine subthemes emerged from the findings: problematic behaviour of clients during home care, unsafe environment, and barriers to prevention. The subcategories of problematic behaviour in providing home care included sexual harassment, verbal abuse and threats, unreasonable demands, and constant complaints. The subcategories of safety threatening environments included threatening work environment and damage caused by pets. The following subcategories were identified as barriers to prevention: performance-based evaluations, lack of criteria for dismissal, and difficulty in obtaining criminal background checks. Conclusion : Based on these findings, grievance committees should be established in health centres, and work manuals should provide criteria for dismissal if the safety of the visiting nurse is in question. In addition, it is necessary to secure information about the client's history of violence.","PeriodicalId":488704,"journal":{"name":"Jigeop geongang yeongu","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135988388","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
