The eggs and the protonymph stages of the prey with six prey densities (5, 10, 20, 40, 80 and 160) were separately offered to a single female predator to determine its predation and oviposition rates for 24h. The results showed that P. persimilis exhibited a Type II functional response to both egg and protonymphal stages of T. urticae irrespective of cotton varieties. The highest attack rates (α) were 0.045 h- and 0.085 h- when the predator fed on eggs and protonymphs of T. urticae on Gloria (low trichome density) variety, respectively. There was a great similarity between the handling times (Th) of P. persimilis feeding on T. urticae eggs and protonymphs among different cotton varieties. No significant difference was found in terms of food consumption of P. persimilis fed on T. urticae eggs in different cotton varieties. In contrast, food consumptions of P. persimilis in all protonymph densities (except 160) were significantly higher on varieties with lower trichome density (Gloria and Lima) compared to the varieties with higher trichome density (Edessa and ST-468). The current study showed that the leaf trichome density of the cotton plant affected the prey consumption capacity of P. persimilis on T. urticae protonymphs. However, more studies are needed to address the issue from a wider perspective, especially to observe the performance and biological control potential of P. persimilis on cotton varieties under field conditions.","PeriodicalId":48866,"journal":{"name":"Acarologia","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.1,"publicationDate":"2023-06-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46459487","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Among the agriculturally important spider mite species, Tetranychus urticae Koch and Tetranychus macfarlanei Baker and Pritchard severely affect crop production and incur heavy yield loss in agriculture sector. As an ecofriendly pest management strategy, biocontrol using phytoseiid predatory mites are gaining significant attention over the past few decades. Evaluation of predatory potential and prey stage preference could provide invaluable information on the predatory efficiency of any predators. Feeding experiments were conducted using the phytoseiid predatory mite, Neoseiulus longispinosus (Evans) on mulberry leaf discs under the laboratory conditions of 30±2ºC, 70±5% Relative Humidity (RH) and a photoperiod of 11 L: 14 D h. After 24 hr of feeding experiment, the nymph and adult female predator exhibited a significant preference in feeding towards the eggs of T. urticae and T. macfarlanei. The larval stage of the predator was found to be non-feeding, thus excluded from the feeding experiment. The order of feeding preference of adult female predator towards different life stages of both the spider mite species were identified as egg>nymph>larva>adult. On the contrary, the predatory nymphal stage exhibited different trend in feeding preference towards the life stages of T. urticae and could be recorded as egg>larva>nymph>adult. For T. macfarlanei, the same could be found as egg>larva=nymph>adult. Surprisingly, irrespective of the life stage differences, N. longispinosus hardly consumed any of the T. macfarlanei adults.","PeriodicalId":48866,"journal":{"name":"Acarologia","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.1,"publicationDate":"2023-05-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49349842","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

(Trouessartiidae) and Pteroherpus guangdongensis sp. nov. (Pteronyssidae). Trouessartia bulbuli sp. nov. is close to T. latisetata Gaud, 1952 and differs in having the following features: in males of T. bulbuli tibia IV has apical thorn-like process at base of solenidia φ, epimerites IVa are wide and with a small extension of irregular form on the anterior end; in females, the copulatory opening is on the small wide-angular projection (external copulatory tube) on the margin of interlobar membrane and h1 setae are filiform. Pteroherpus guangdongensis sp. nov. belongs to the hoplophorus species group and is most close to P. meghalayensis Constantinescu, 2014.The new species has the following distinctive characters: in males, a very long genital apparatus and the epiandrum with long branches, extending beyond the base of setae 4a, a pair of small additional sclerites posterior to prodorsal shield is present, and adanal shield is shaped as a small longitudinal sclerite of irregular form; in females, the hysterosomal shield is split into unpaired anterior hysteronotal sclerite shaped as shaped as dumb-bell, central sclerite of triangular form, paired lateral opisthosomal sclerites and pygidial sclerites (similar to those in other species of hoplophorus group), and the hysteronotal gland openings gl are situated on the striated tegument.","PeriodicalId":48866,"journal":{"name":"Acarologia","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.1,"publicationDate":"2023-05-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42123591","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The family has approximately 1,100 described species in 41 genera with worldwide distribution. Currently, 40 species of Tenuipalpidae have been recorded from Brazil, and prior to this study only 11 were known from Bahia state. Five new species records are presented here for Bahia, making a total of 16 species now known from the state. Brevipalpus is considered the most important genus due to their association with, and ability to transmit, devastating plant viruses. Some diseases caused by viruses transmitted by Brevipalpus mites (VTBs) have already been recorded in the state of Bahia, such as the Passion fruit green spot virus and citrus leprosis. This paper presents a checklist of tenuipalpids reported from the state of Bahia in Brazil, including new records and an illustrated identification key to the species.","PeriodicalId":48866,"journal":{"name":"Acarologia","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.1,"publicationDate":"2023-05-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43954290","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The family includes 37 species distributed in 4 genera, Klinckowstroemia (28 spp.), Similantennurella (2 spp.), Klinckowstroemiella (5 spp.) y Antennurella (2 spp.). Little is known about the true distribution and species diversity of these genera, especially the latter 3. We examined specimens of Antennurella, Similantennurella and Klinckowstroemiella collected from passalids from several entomological collections. We added Ecuador, French Guyana, Guatemala and Mexico to the distribution range of Similantennurella, Belize, Bolivia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Trinidad and Venezuela for Antenurella, and Bolivia, Ecuador, Honduras and Peru for Klinckowstroemiella. We report 8 new passalid host species previously unknown for these genera. Our study suggests a broad distribution range of the 3 genera, probably encompassing Mesoamerica and South America except Chile and Patagonia, where passalids are not found. Antennurella, Similantennurella and Klinckowstroemiella apparently occur primarily below 1500m altitude, while Klinckowstroemia has been repeatedly found above this limit. All genera have been found mostly on large passalids (>22 mm, long). We also cite the family for the first time from El Salvador.","PeriodicalId":48866,"journal":{"name":"Acarologia","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.1,"publicationDate":"2023-05-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48932091","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
