Independent directors have become a crucial element in academic debates regarding their presence on boards. Issues related to independent directors have prompted governments and policymakers to update or enforce existing regulations to ensure compliance among firms in increasing their numbers on boards for making the best decisions and overseeing management to safeguard the interests of shareholders. Many academic studies have been conducted in specific areas to assess the effects of independent directors on firm performance, operations, value, and share performance, including in business, economics, finance, accounting, and social sciences. However, the results of previous empirical studies have not yet been consistent enough to serve as a reference for stakeholders such as boards of directors, firms, shareholders, investors, and governments. Meanwhile, such studies are still lacking in ASEAN countries. Therefore, this study aims to critically review existing literature on the impact of the relationship between independent directors and share performance in three ASEAN countries (Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia). Furthermore, to identify existing gaps, this study identified several key aspects from a theoretical, contextual, operational, methodological, and measurement perspective in previous empirical research. Based on the results of research in the existing literature, they have not yet been generalized to a broader context, sector, and population. Therefore, to enhance deeper understanding, this study will propose various research avenues related to independent directors and share performance. Hence, based on this study, it can be concluded that the results of existing research are still inconclusive and mixed. Finally, the implications of this study on policy, theory, and practice are discussed.","PeriodicalId":486062,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Entrepreneurship and Management Practices","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135587668","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The quality of one's life is frequently determined by one's finances. Every financial choice is occasionally impacted by a circumstance in our lives. Therefore, the purpose of this pilot study is to evaluate the reability and validity of the research instrument on the factors that affect the level of financial literacy of students at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI). This research use a quantitative method to determine the factors that affect financial literacy. Researchers employ a stratified selection approach and simple random sampling technique to choose respondents. In this pilot study, the researcher used a minimum sample size of 30 respondents. The questionnaire is adapted from previous studies and distributed through Google form via email and Whatsapp. The data is collected and analyzed using the software tool Statistical Package For Social Science (SPSS) version 25.0. The findings of this pilot test show that Cronbach alpha is 0.942. This result show that the instrument is realiable and valid to use in the real study.","PeriodicalId":486062,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Entrepreneurship and Management Practices","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134903509","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Numerous academic studies have been undertaken in business, economics, finance, accounting, and the social sciences to study the effects of women directors on firm performance, operations, value, and share performance. On the basis of prior empirical investigations, the results have not yet achieved a definitive reference point for stakeholders such as boards of directors, companies, shareholders, investors, and governments. However, such research is still scarce in ASEAN nations. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to conduct a comprehensive literature analysis concerning the impact of women directors on share performance in the share markets of Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia. This study will examine the theoretical and empirical elements of the connection between women directors and share performance in order to identify research gaps for the future. Several crucial components of theory, operations, measurement, contextualization, and methodology have been identified in empirical investigations. The conclusions of this study cannot yet be applied to broader contexts, sectors, or people, as determined by a review of relevant prior research. In addition, this paper outlines other research avenues that should be pursued to gain a deeper knowledge of women directors and share performance. Based on the outcomes of this study, it can be stated that the conclusions of previous research remain inconsistent. Finally, the study's policy, theoretical, and practical consequences are examined.","PeriodicalId":486062,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Entrepreneurship and Management Practices","volume":"10 8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135587652","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Despite the failure risks among SMEs, insurance penetration rates among SMEs are low, showing low risk protection awareness. Insurers need to understand the effectiveness of service marketing strategies in influencing SME owners’ purchase behaviour. The study uses paper-based surveys among 123 SMEs in Northern Malaysia. A set of survey questionnaire was developed based on adoption and adaptation items from existing studies. Data was analysed using PLS-SEM via SmartPLS 3.0. Findings indicated that only five of the service marketing strategies, namely price, promotion, place, process, and physical evidence have significant influence on the insurance purchase behaviour. In addition, attitude towards risks fully mediates all the direct effect of the five Ps, meaning that the SMEs attitude towards risks weakens the effect of all the marketing strategies on the SMEs insurance purchase behaviour. This study makes both theoretical and practical contributions, especially in identifying the roles of external stimuli and internal process in influencing insurance purchase behaviour among SMEs. The findings of the study will provide help to agencies tasked with developing SMEs in enhancing their risks management plan to protect the SMEs in facing the highly uncertain nature of the business; as well as insurers in increasing the penetration rates of insurance among SMEs.","PeriodicalId":486062,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Entrepreneurship and Management Practices","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135587666","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The recent significant decline in FDI inflows within Asean+3 (AS3) countries raise concerns about its potential impact on regional economic development. Numerous prior studies have examined a wide range of factors that can affect FDI, including interest rate, market size, inflation, and infrastructure. Notably, innovation has been overlooked as a potential factor in these previous studies. In this review, the patent serves as a proxy for innovation. The sophistication of the research and development can be of interest to foreign investors. This study examines whether improvements in terms of research and development can significantly affect foreign direct investment in the region. Based on previous empirical research, the results the decision is not yet conclusive for determinants of FDI inflows in AS3 countries. However, it's worth highlighting that there is currently a dearth of research in the context of AS3 countries on this subject. For the sake of examining the long-run relationship between the independent and dependent variables the auto regressive distributed lag (ARDL) model is applied in this study. The Panel Autoregressive Distributed Lag (Panel ARDL) is a statistical model employed for analyzing the connections between variables in a panel dataset.","PeriodicalId":486062,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Entrepreneurship and Management Practices","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135587653","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The scope of the study consists of MNCs listed on Bursa Malaysia in 2018 to 2020. The analysis of the study is carried out quantitatively using multiple regression panel data. Surplus value is used as a proxy for firm value. In addition to independent Board Members (ALP), ALP diversity and ALP skill matrix are also used as proxies for board composition. The results of the study show that the independent ALP and the ALP skill matrix have a positive effect on the value of MNC firms in Malaysia. On the other hand, ALP diversity and gender diversity do not show a significant relationship to the value of MNC firms in Malaysia compared to age diversity and ethnic diversity. The results of the study show that the diversity of the composition of the board of directors, especially in relation to the independent ALP, the ALP skills matrix, the diversity of age and ethnicity should be the main criteria for the organization's nomination committee to evaluate in making decisions about the new ALP nomination. This study is also expected to help policy and policy makers, especially MNC firms, Bursa Malaysia and the Malaysian Securities Commission in improving the quality of corporate governance of MNC companies in Malaysia.","PeriodicalId":486062,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Entrepreneurship and Management Practices","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135109954","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this study is to identify the differences in demographic factors (gender, age, position, type of university, research experience, knowledge of commercialization, and research field) in research commercialization activities among lecturers in public universities in Malaysia. A cross-sectional descriptive research design was used, and a sample size of 155 lecturers was selected through simple random sampling from 20 public universities in Malaysia. Primary data was collected through a questionnaire in the form of a Google Form distributed via email. Subsequently, the collected data was analyzed using Statistical Packages for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 26.0. The results of the t-Test and ANOVA analyses indicated that there were no significant differences in research commercialization activities based on demographic factors, including gender, age, position, type of university, research experience, knowledge of commercialization, and research field. This demonstrates that academic researchers should not perceive demographic factors as barriers to their research commercialization activities. Therefore, the findings of this study are expected to benefit those involved in formulating various strategies and decision-making processes, with the aim of stimulating greater efforts in the commercialization of research results, especially at the university level.","PeriodicalId":486062,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Entrepreneurship and Management Practices","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135109956","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
