The aim of this study was to assess NSSI thoughts and behavior. In addition, the study examined the association between various NSSI features and suicidal behavior and included a preliminary validation of the new Self-Injurious Thoughts and Behaviors Interview - Non-Suicidal Self-Injury (SITBI-NSSI).</p><p><strong>Method: </strong>685 Spanish adolescents between 13 and 18 years old (M = 15.58, SD = 1.08; 60.9% girls) completed measures of NSSI features and suicidal behavior.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>Among adolescents, 19% thought about self-injury, and 16.8% presented NSSI behaviors. The girls had higher levels of NSSI, as well as greater frequency, number of functions, methods, and suicidal thoughts and desire. Some of the functions, methods, and precipitants differed by sex. Those with ANS had a higher risk of suicidal behavior than the comparison group. The association of SITBI-NSSI with other measures supports the validity of the data.</p><p><strong>Conclusions: </strong>Most features of NSSI are similar to those found in Spanish and internationally. However, few studies have examined the role of IB and SB together in explaining SA. The objective of this study was to determine whether SB explains the association between IB and SA. To evaluate these variables, the Adolescents' Interpretation and Beliefs Questionnaire (AIBQ 2.0) and the Social Phobia Safety Behaviors Scale (SPSBS) needed to be adapted for Spanish adolescents and young people.</p><p><strong>Method: </strong>826 Spanish vocational training students (60% males, 14-28 years old) completed a measure of SA and the AIBQ 2.0 and SPSBS.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>Path analysis showed that IB in offline scenarios was associated with SA through SB. IB in offline situations, but not in online situations, was directly associated with SA. As expected, the AIBQ 2.0 showed a two-dimensional structure and good internal consistency. The SPSBS demonstrated a unidimensional structure and good internal consistency.</p><p><strong>Conclusions: </strong>In the absence of longitudinal studies, the data are compatible with the possible mediating role of SB in the association between IB and SA. This study aims to examine antisocial and criminal behavior in adolescence and establish guidelines that contribute to educational prevention. Specifically, we sought to evaluate self-reports of antisocial and criminal behaviors in adolescents, verifying differences in the variables sex and age.</p><p><strong>Method: </strong>A total of 396 adolescents participated in the study. They were aged 12 to 19 years old (M = 15.8, SD = 1.6), were of both sexes (63.9% girls or women and 36.1% boys or men) and were attending primary and secondary schools in Brazil. The Antisocial-Criminal Behaviors Questionnaire (A-D) was administered online. Descriptive and comparative analyses by sex and age were performed.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>Boys presented more transgressive behaviors than girls, not overall, but in specific behaviors included in the two scales of the questionnaire used. The structure of the scale was confirmed as two-dimensional (χ2(64) = 361.22, p < .001, CFI = 0.976, TLI = 0.970, RMSEA (90% CI) = 0.089 (0.080 - 0.098), SRMR = 0.064). The present study explored child and family variables that predict functional outcomes of adolescents with ASD in emotional/behavioral difficulties, socialization, daily living skills, and the transition to secondary education.</p><p><strong>Method: </strong>Forty-five individuals with ASD, without intellectual disability, were assessed during childhood (aged 7-11) and almost five years later. Child measures (executive functions, theory of mind, autism symptom severity) and parent measures (parenting stress, social support, coping strategies) were collected.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>In adolescence, the predictive power of childhood executive functions was important for academic and behavioral/emotional indicators whereas theory of mind mainly predicted adaptive and behavior/emotional outcomes. ASD symptoms had predictive value in all outcome domains. Parental educational level, social support and parenting distress predicted socialization, while the engagement coping strategy had a significant role in daily living skills.</p><p><strong>Conclusions: </strong>The findings raise several clinical considerations related to assessment and intervention in autism. Executive functions and theory of mind programs could help to improve behavior/emotional, adaptive outcomes, and adjustment to school. {"title":"Problematic Internet Use, Depressive Symptomatology and Suicidal Ideation in University Students During COVID-19 Confinement.","authors":"Verónica Villanueva-Silvestre,&nbsp;Andrea Vázquez-Martínez,&nbsp;Manuel Isorna-Folgar,&nbsp;Víctor J Villanueva-Blasco","doi":"10.7334/psicothema2022.40","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.7334/psicothema2022.40","url":null,"abstract":"<p><strong>Background: </strong>The aim was to estimate the rate of PIU in Spanish university students during the lockdown, taking sex and age into account, and to analyze its relationship with depression and suicidal ideation.</p><p><strong>Method: </strong>921 university students (55% women) from 18 to 30 years old (M = 24.8 years; SD = 3) participated.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>The results showed that 21% of the participants presented PIU, 25.1% moderate depression, 2.1% severe depression, and 6.6% suicidal ideation. The 18 to 21-year-old age group presented the highest rate of PIU (37.8%). A positive correlation was observed between PIU and depression (r = .38; p ‹ .001), with a significantly higher mean score on the PHQ-9 (t<sub>(241.813)</sub> = -8.21; ‹ d = .78) in university students with PIU (M = 9.8; SD = 5.1) than those without it (M = 6.4; SD = 4.1). The rate of severe depression was six times greater (χ2 (3) = 73.25; p ‹ .001) in undergraduates with PIU (6.2%) than those without PIU (0.8%). However, no review has been conducted on public Android commercial telepsychological applications in Spain.</p><p><strong>Method: </strong>A systematic search was carried out in the general applications section of Google Play Store based on 20 keywords in Spanish. Applications in Spanish or English that were relevant from the perspective of the search terms were included in the analysis.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>Of the 1,000 applications retrieved, only 43.59% (337/773) met the inclusion criteria, of which 49.26% (171/337) were Spanish. Most of them were Self-applied treatment applications (52.96%, 29.59%, Spanish; 23.37%, English). The objective of the present study was to assess the psychometric properties and explore the differential item functioning (DIF) of the SMFQ in a community sample of Spanish children. Gender and age differences in SMFQ scores were also analyzed.</p><p><strong>Method: </strong>The sample included 824 students aged 8-12 years (Mage = 9.64, SD = 1.2) recruited from four public and private schools in urban areas in the southeast of Spain.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>Findings from factor analysis and Polytomous Rasch analysis supported a unidimensional interpretation of the SMFQ, thereby replicating findings across cultures and languages. The SMFQ had good reliability, and test-retest analysis indicated fair to good temporal stability. Evidence of construct validity was provided by a path diagram of the SMFQ and SDQ subscales. No age or gender differences in the SMFQ scores were observed. However, two items (3 and 11) exhibited gender-related DIF.</p><p><strong>Conclusions: </strong>The use of SMFQ sum-scores as a continuous measure of the severity of depressive symptoms can be supported. There is a relationship between immigration background and bullying, but differences between generations are still debated. Therefore, the objectives of this study were: 1) to analyze victimization according to gender and immigration background (first and second generation); 2) to compare the attitudes of students against bullying based on these variables.</p><p><strong>Method: </strong>A multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA) was carried out, considering gender and immigration background as independent variables, and types of offline bullying (physical, verbal and relational) as dependent variables. The sample was made up of 6,335 Spanish students (50.1% girls; 49.9% boys; average age: 15.83, DT: 0.29).</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>Statistically significant differences were detected in types of bullying (considered together) and in attitudes against bullying according to gender and immigration background (p ‹.001).</p><p><strong>Conclusions: </strong>Being a first-generation immigrant stands out as the main risk factor. The objective of this study was to develop a combined reduced version of the European Bullying Intervention Project Questionnaire (EBIP-Q) and the European Cyberbullying Intervention Project Questionnaire (ECIP-Q) for its use in the screening of bullying-related behaviors at school.</p><p><strong>Method: </strong>The sample consisted of 1777 students, between 14 and 18 years of age (M = 15.71; SD = 1.26), of which 54.1% were female.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>The resulting reduced version presents adequate psychometric properties with reliability coefficients between ω = .72 and ω = .82. Factor analyses indicate that both bullying and cyberbullying are structured around two factors: victimization and aggression. The correlations between the scores of the original version and the reduced version were adequate.
