Soft skills, acquired through targeted professional training, are one of the determinants of professional activity growth. Based on the analysis of domestic and foreign literature, in accordance with the Russian Managers Association terminology, the article lists specific communicative competencies of a \"successful\" manager. As a hypothesis of the study, an assumption was made about the presence of a predominantly low development level of communicative competencies that are included in the structure of students’ professionally significant \"soft skills\". The study (N=184) involved students aged 18–19 (M=18,28; SD=0,45), including 110 female and 74 male students of the 1st year bachelor Management program from Nizhny Novgorod universities. The following methods were used: the “Level of subjective control” by E.F. Bazhin, E.A. Golynkin, L.M. Etkind; \"Emotional intelligence test\" by D.V. Lucin; \"Сommunicative social competence diagnosis\" by N.P. Fetiskin, V.V. Kozlov, G.M. Manuilov. The diagnostic results showed the predominant presence of medium and high development levels of communicative competencies, related to communicative social competence, emotional intelligence and subjective control of future managers. The presence of a medium and high levels of the studied communicative competencies development allows using them as a basis for the successful “soft skills” development of a management specialist.
","PeriodicalId":480667,"journal":{"name":"Psihologo-pedagogičeskie issledovaniâ","volume":"128 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136328417","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is a complex multidimensional construct. This study examines aspects of academic self-esteem: mathematical and verbal. An important factor influencing the formation of self-esteem is the environment – cultural values and economic development of the country. Previous empirical studies have shown differences in overall self-esteem among individuals from individualistic and collectivistic cultures. We decided to investigate self-esteem in more details and consider the differences and similarities in self-esteem by two factors \"Mathematical self-esteem\" and \"Verbal self-esteem\" of students from Russia and Kyrgyzstan. These countries share a common historical background and a similar educational system, but differ at the cultural level. This pilot study was conducted among students from Russia and Kyrgyzstan, using the questionnaire \"Self Description Questionnaire\". The research sample included 510 undergraduate students aged 18 to 27 years (60% – Russia, 40% – Kyrgyzstan). Statistical analysis of the data was performed using Cohen's d to determine the effect size for significant differences between the means. The results of the study indicate a higher level of mathematical self-concept among students from Russia, which can be explained by differences in cultural dimensions – individualism and collectivism. At the same time, no significant differences in verbal self-esteem were found. This is due to its complexity. So, the communicative aspect of verbal self-esteem is more pronounced in the Eastern culture, and the speech aspect – in the Western one.
","PeriodicalId":480667,"journal":{"name":"Psihologo-pedagogičeskie issledovaniâ","volume":"160 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136328416","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The studies are divided into blocks in accordance with the three types of childrens’ activity, such as leisure (including video games), communicative and educational activity – taking the impact of digital technologies into account. Contradictory empirical data are explained by the many limitations that exist for the organization of this type of research. They also do not allow to identify clear causal relationships between the use of digital technologies by adolescents and young adults and the development of their cognitive and communication skills. The analysis of scientific results, studies led to the conclusion that digitalization qualitatively changes development of cognitive and communication processes of adolescents and young adults.
","PeriodicalId":480667,"journal":{"name":"Psihologo-pedagogičeskie issledovaniâ","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136047498","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study was carried out in Ethiopia, where teachers are encouraged to engage in self-initiated professional development (SIPD). Similarly, English teachers in Ethiopian higher education institutes are encouraged to engage in self-initiated professional development by assessing and reexamining their teaching beliefs and practices. This can be carried out using information and communication technologies (ICTs). The study participants were EFL teachers from Addis Ababa Science and Technology University. In the study, 35 teachers were selected using total population sampling. Descriptive and correlation methods were employed to analyze the data. Accordingly, although teachers' beliefs were positive, their practice in the use of ICTs for self-initiated professional development was somehow moderate or did not match the level of their beliefs. Therefore, teachers should improve their practice in regard to their strong beliefs about the use of ICTs. All in all, they need to update themselves using the available technologies at their disposal since these technologies provide them with a wide range of ELT's latest developments.
","PeriodicalId":480667,"journal":{"name":"Psihologo-pedagogičeskie issledovaniâ","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136328772","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A mixed methods design was employed in the study. The participants were sixty-four primary school English language teachers. They were selected randomly from six elementary schools. A survey and an interview were used to collect data. All the teachers took part in the survey. Additionally, eight of them were observed while teaching in the classroom. Furthermore, six trainers participated in key informant interviews and focus group discussions. The results of the survey show that the majority of teachers estimate their speaking and reading skills at an intermediate level, and there is a moderate significant correlation between teachers’ evaluations of speaking and reading skills. Based on the interview results, qualitative data were collected and analyzed to corroborate the survey findings. The themes were categorized and interpreted. It was revealed that the teachers have severe needs for English language proficiency and must continuously develop their pedagogical and subject-matter knowledge. On the basis of the findings, suggestions were made to the ministry of education to prepare professional development activities based on the teachers’ needs.
","PeriodicalId":480667,"journal":{"name":"Psihologo-pedagogičeskie issledovaniâ","volume":"438 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135000987","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
