To this end, in-depth interviews were conducted with five college students who participated in liberal arts classes, and these were analyzed using phenomenological research methods. As a result, first, the participants stated that they were “indifferent” or had “uncomfortable feelings” about multiculturalism due to a lack of direct experience with migrants. Second, college students came to understand and respect others through the multicultural role-playing process. Third, research participants came to think about the attitudes they should have in a multicultural society in the future during their liberal arts class. This has led to changes in the perceptions of all people interacting in a multicultural society, regarding both their perceptions and attitudes.Based on these results, this study presented future multicultural education plans as follows. First, multicultural education should begin with content that can lead to “various levels of cultural curiosity” among the learners. This plays a role in relieving the indifferent or uncomfortable emotions that learners have. Second, before the role-playing activities, education that can help students better understand other cultures should be prioritized. This can reduce the difficulties students face when it comes to ‘cultural differences’ and ‘language barriers’ (communication) when learners write their role play scripts. Finally, multicultural education should be developed as a long-term curriculum rather than a one-off, and should be conducted to improve mutual cultural capabilities by engaging in “cultural exchange activities,” including the involvement of the migrants' language, culture, experiences, and values. This can help students internalize their necessary multicultural awareness on a long-term basis. It can also be a way for them to understand their foreign counterparts more deeply by providing opportunities for mutual cultural communication with them. Through this study, we looked at the process of changing college students' multicultural perception. It is hoped that this study will serve as useful basic data for the progress of multicultural education that can promote multicultural awareness for college students as well as for other learners.","PeriodicalId":476520,"journal":{"name":"Korean Journal of General Education","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135945506","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The results of the research are as follows: First, among studies related to mathematics education and general education, research on general mathematics in universities is severely lacking. Considering that nearly all universities offer courses related to general mathematics, professors and researchers responsible for general mathematics should dedicate more attention to research on general college mathematics. Second, concerning the subjects and content areas of mathematics, research on general mathematics shows a bias towards basic general mathematics for science and engineering students. Therefore, there is a need for research on basic general mathematics for students in the humanities and social sciences, as well as research on pure general mathematics applicable to all students. Third, there is a lack of research on evaluation and educational technology in the field of general mathematics. Evaluation plays a crucial role in education, and it is important to conduct research on the evaluation of general mathematics and the utilization of educational technology, especially considering the increasing emphasis on the use of various technological tools in mathematics education. Fourth, in terms of research methods, the majority of studies focus on quantitative research. Therefore, it is necessary to employ diverse research methods that are suitable for the teaching and learning environment of general mathematics. Fifth, concerning the research topic on teaching and learning, while there have been numerous studies targeting science and engineering students, there is a need for a variety of studies on teaching and learning that encompass all students, including those in the humanities and social sciences, as well as the professors themselves.","PeriodicalId":476520,"journal":{"name":"Korean Journal of General Education","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135945510","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Seventeen instructors working at a university located on the outskirts of Seoul participated. Data were collected through a survey questionnaire consisting of a combination of multiple choice, a 5-point Likert scale, and open ended questions, all of which were used as the primary data collection method. Data analysis was conducted using general qualitative analysis for the open ended questions and descriptive statistics for the multiple choice and 5-point Likert scale questions. The findings of the study indicate such tools and functions as Lecture Contents, Inbox, Announcements, Assignments, Learn Status, Assignment Comment, and Speed Grader were used frequently on CANVAS, which was also related to the instructors’ high levels of satisfaction with this LMS in the areas of sharing course content, managing a classroom (e.g., monitoring students’ learning activities and communicating with students), and administering assignments and exams. On the other hand, the instructors reported that they used such tools and functions as Collaborations and Discussion less on Canvas, which matched their relatively low satisfaction with CANVAS in writing related areas such as grading, giving feedback, sharing peer feedback, and doing collaborative writing activities. Administrational and educational implications of these findings are discussed.","PeriodicalId":476520,"journal":{"name":"Korean Journal of General Education","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135945508","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In recent years, the rapid spread of artificial intelligence has increased the demand for human thinking and creativity. Discussion is a teaching method that can effectively strengthen these abilities, and it is necessary to strengthen research on specific applications in university education in the future. Therefore, this study examined whether there is a difference in students' perceptions of the <Masterpiece Reading> class and the improvement of core competencies according to the difference in discussion methods. The results showed that students who held group discussions had higher mean scores regarding lesson design, classroom activities, feedback and communication, achievement, and satisfaction as opposed to students who only held bulletin board discussions. In addition, both groups were most positive about improving their articulation competencies, while students who participated in bulletin board discussions were more positive about improving their self-management competencies. Also, students who participated in group discussions were more positive about improving their dedication and universal value competencies. We hope that this study will be helpful in designing and implementing discussion methods in future classical reading courses.","PeriodicalId":476520,"journal":{"name":"Korean Journal of General Education","volume":"2015 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135945316","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this, I proposed a circulative model of debating and argumentative writing including the processes of the topic formation, outline creation, debating, argumentative writing, feedback, online debating, and term paper evaluation. One of the main characteristics of this study is that the two activities circulate repetitively. In the repetition of the two activities, the target aims such as argumentative thinking skills, creativity, and speech and writing competences, can be achieved in an equally balanced manner. Another characteristic is that diverse patterns of debates such as formal debates, informal debates and online debates, are utilized for the learner’s active participation. Finally, since interactions can be strengthened between learners and a teacher, learners and learners, and learners and materials, feedback and information search can be strongly activated. For further study, intensified research is suggested regarding the analysis, as well as an effective teaching method involving the diversity of the communicative aspects in multi-layered debating message postings.","PeriodicalId":476520,"journal":{"name":"Korean Journal of General Education","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135945507","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Research on women’s science fiction has also been conducted in the context of the posthuman, with two main research trends: technofeminism, which affirms the union between women and science, and critical posthumanist research on ableism. However, these studies lack a perspective on animality that encompasses humans and nonhumans. The discussion of science fiction inevitably confronts the disregard for life and instrumentalist exploitation, which can be seen as increasing with the development of science and technology. Therefore, the issues of human and non-human minorities, vulnerability, and animality are the ultimate challenges of a posthuman society and are central to the discussion of science fiction. If posthumanism dreams of a ‘better’ post-human world, it should focus on ‘animals, including humans’. Therefore, in order to generate categories of thought for discussion topics that can be utilized in liberal arts education, this paper adds the animal axis to the existing discussion and discusses the correlation between the three concepts of minorities, vulnerability, and animality in Cheon Seonran’s science fiction novel <i>A Thousand Blue</i>. As we have seen, the educational implications of the novel are that it connects humans and animals through disability and points out the problems of the technological society that will come in the near future as an extension of today, pointing out that the posthuman society should be designed from the lowest position. In addition, the novel’s significance lies in the fact that it creates a point of debate, rather than simply sealing the issue by establishing a desirable human-animal relationship. The novel shows that by adding a species axis to the posthumanist discussion, we can start to think about how to redesign society.","PeriodicalId":476520,"journal":{"name":"Korean Journal of General Education","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135945501","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Additionally, the study aims to examine whether there are variations in self-directed English learning ability based on individual variables among students in both types of classes. A survey was conducted to measure self-directed English learning ability, covering cognitive, affective, and behavioral aspects. Data from 284 freshmen were analyzed using IBM SPSS 27.0. The findings are as follows. First, a difference in self-directed English learning ability was observed between college students taking non-face-to-face and face-to-face General English courses. Notably, the difference in learning when it comes to motivation, continuity of learning activities, and learning about the factors involved in resource interest management was statistically significant. In all seven sub-factors, the average score of college students taking non-face-to-face classes was higher than that of their face-to-face counterparts. Second, the self-directed English learning ability of college students who took non-face-to-face classes differed based on individual variables such as gender, English vocabulary level, interest in English, and average learning time per day. In particular, the difference in average scores by gender showed a certain pattern. Third, the self-directed English learning ability of college students who took face-to-face classes varied depending on individual variables such as gender, English vocabulary level, interest in English, and average learning time per day. Depending on some individual variables, certain patterns were also shown. Based on these findings, similarities and differences in college students' self-directed English learning ability between non-face-to-face and face-to-face classes were identified. To this end, 331 questions appearing in the <Log using ChatGPT> written by 60 students were analyzed according to the criteria of three question types, as well as the frequency and continuity of questions for each writing process.As a result, ⑴ college writers showed a bias in their question patterns concerning the process of ‘creating content’, asking ‘one-time questions’ rather than ‘continuous questions’, ‘dependent questions’ rather than ‘initiative questions’, and ‘general questions’ rather than ‘specific questions’. In terms of functions required of ChatGPT, many questions arose in the order of ‘information (presentation)’, ‘evaluation’, ‘creation’, ‘application’, and ‘analysis’. ⑵ The question patterns of the upper and lower groups according to the writing level contrasted greatly. The upper group used ‘continuous’, ‘initiative’, and ‘specific’ questions relatively more, and showed a tendency to ask various questions in terms of request functions for ChatGPT. On the other hand, in the subgroup, attention was paid to the problem of the unethical use of ChatGPT due to the ‘invention’ question along with the contrasting aspect.Based on the above data, this studey indicated four areas that future ‘Question Education’ should take into consideration. First, in the field of writing education, the direction of ‘question education’ should be set under the goal of ‘priority improvement of learners' writing ability’. Second, prior to education on question methods, various types of questions should be taught. Third, useful question types and question sequence strategies for each writing process should be developed in connection with existing writing education contents. Finally, an agreement between the teacher and the learners concerning the use of ‘invention’ questions must be drawn up in a very specific manner.","PeriodicalId":476520,"journal":{"name":"Korean Journal of General Education","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135945503","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, AI education is emerging as an essential subject in universities, and curriculums are being designed and researched through various approaches. This study introduces a case involving process automation classes that can be applied to university SW and AI liberal arts education by utilizing various learning resources of web content that are encountered in daily life. At a time when artificial intelligence education is emerging as important, the AI pre-processing process is also important. Thus, procedural and experiential learning that can select the tools necessary to collect, process, and analyze appropriate data for problem solving is also important. Therefore, in designing the SW⋅AI liberal arts curriculum, it is meaningful in various aspects to design an education that quickly collects and processes life-linked data based on web content by combining the highly utilized Python library and RPA concept. Through related research, cases where process automation implementation learning can be designed and applied, areas of interest among learners regarding classification were derived through learner responses. Furthermore, web content designed through qualitative responses were shown to be excellent practical resources for process automation learning. In the designed learning of classification, interest in ‘data collection using data crawling and scraping’ ranked the highest, followed by ‘open API integration and utilization’.
