Exploration of the city, regulated by the principles of the qualitative content analysis method included exploratory walks (research participant + two students) and a discussion with a group of youth from DN – participants of a youth club established in one of the local educational institutions. The study results present a city full of spatial divisions in which the disadvantaged position of young people from DN becomes evident. The reconstructed picture of the relationship between space and places reveals discursive, cultural and economic mechanisms of extending the power of some groups of citizens over others, whose intersectionality in the era of intensification of revitalisation processes is reflected in the identity processes of these young people. The conclusions of the study encourage its continuation on a larger and more purposefully diverse research sample as well as a revitalised discussion around the role of social professions in revitalisation processes.","PeriodicalId":475742,"journal":{"name":"Praca Socjalna","volume":"170 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135040672","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Increasingly, families claim that the best solution would be to incapacitate such a family member. In addition, the draft act amending the Mental Health Protection Act assumes that doctors will put pressure on family members to use the incapacitation procedure. The aim of this article is to show that incapacitation should be a last resort and to present various forms of support and help for both the patient and family members. The basic research method was the dogmatic method, i.e., formal and legal, involving the use of the existing achievements of law science, which is based on the analysis of legal texts in this area. The assessment of this issue was subject to examination of the current legislation and courts decisions in this respect. Considerations on the necessity of incapacitation are presented in three parts. The first one discusses the importance of protection of health, including mental health, which is protected not only constitutionally, but also under other laws. The second part defines the essence of partial and total incapacitation, its process, entities that may apply for incapacitation. I present legal consequences for an incapacitated person as well as consequences for a person applying for incapacitation recklessly or in bad faith. I answer the question whether a register of incapacitated persons should be established. In the third part, I describe the procedure of application for admission to a psychiatric hospital, which may be carried out, inter alia, by a social worker, a wide range of financial, institutional and social work assistance that can be guaranteed by the social support body for the sick person, so that incapacitation is the extreme measure. The result of this article is to demonstrate that social assistance organisational units, including a social worker and families, have various instruments to support a person in a mental health crisis.","PeriodicalId":475742,"journal":{"name":"Praca Socjalna","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135040660","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The reflections and observations contained therein are based on the results of own research conducted as part of a research project: “Interdisciplinary activities of selected social services with women abusing alcohol”. As part of the research, interviews were conducted with social workers who meet this group of clients in their daily work. Their statements allow us to understand the difficult situation of an addicted woman, raise awareness about her problems and show the circumstances that are the beginning of a difficult addiction battle.Of course, the social worker works only with a specific group of women struggling with the problem of alcohol abuse and addiction. Many of them are unknown to the environment, and they themselves do not ask for any help. This has to do with the way society perceives women abusing alcohol.","PeriodicalId":475742,"journal":{"name":"Praca Socjalna","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135040828","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The development of new technologies, climate crisis, pandemic or armed conflicts translate into the functioning of individuals, groups and communities. Social workers are not indifferent to these issues. They react to the occurring phenomena by educating, animating, motivating and providing broadly understood support.This article was inspired by papers presented during this year's conference organised by the European Association of Schools of Social Work and the Institute of Social Services of Porto (Instituto Superior de Serviço Social do Porto) that took place on June 20–23, 2023. Due to the use of the above-mentioned categories in the discussed research, I adopted the perspective of the postcolonial theory as the appropriate method of analysing the scientific discourse on begging. Based on the empirical research analysed in the article, I show that the ethical standards used in the research are inconsistent with the UNESCO Experts’ Declaration developed in the mid-twentieth century, recognising the category of race as unscientific. A practice of particular concern in this regard is the coding of empirical data based on racial categories imposed on Roma in the context of identifying begging with criminality. Within these approaches, I identified the essential and cultural approach to begging and the concept of a happy beggar created on its basis. On the other hand, at the level of content and conclusions, the ideological stake of the analyses carried out, aimed at rationing the social usefulness of work and its control, is revealed. In this context, the emerging aim of the research and tasks of the social assistance system is to “provide care” for the activity of citizens and forcing the population able to work to undertake it.","PeriodicalId":475742,"journal":{"name":"Praca Socjalna","volume":"84 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135040841","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The article presents the state of research on formal and informal support provided to foster families as well as the results of own research. The aim of the research was to determine how foster families assess the formal and informal support they experience. These two types of support were assessed both objectively and subjectively. The research is part of a wider project aimed at determining the objective and subjective quality of life of foster families. The study was conducted on a sample of 27 foster families (average age of mothers M=53.33; fathers M=55.48; SD=11.41). The Family Quality of Life Survey – general version, FQoLS-2006 by Ivan Brown et al. from the Centre for Health Promotion in Toronto in the Polish adaptation by Ewa Zasępa, Ewa Wapiennik, Agnieszka Wołowicz (2010) and a demographic survey were used. The questionnaire measures the objective and subjective quality of family life in nine areas: family health, financial situation, family relationships, support from other people, support from specialist services and social assistance, value system, professional career and career preparation, leisure and recreation, social interactions. The article presents the results in the following areas: support from other people and support from specialist services. Results and conclusions: support from other people (informal support) and support from specialist services (formal support) were assessed poorly. Foster families assess the received emotional support better than the practical one. In addition, it has been shown that foster families experience many difficulties and, due to the specific nature of the functioning of these families, social support is particularly important for them.","PeriodicalId":475742,"journal":{"name":"Praca Socjalna","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135040544","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
